  1. I hadn't realized that Warner & Swasey is supposed to get some ARPA money from the city. Will that be enough to get the project off the ground in likelihood?
  2. (warning some language)
  3. The early conceptual renderings of this project look way bigger than I had imagined.
  4. https://www.bls.gov/regions/midwest/oh_cleveland_msa.htm Sep. numbers out. Unemployment down, but otherwise numbers don't look too great to me.
  5. What's the over-under on where this new design lands on lists of worst state license plates? Because it's got to be top 5 bad. It's like Alabama or Indiana, just even busier.
  6. Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but no obvious alternative. https://www.cleveland.com/open/2021/10/wrighting-a-wrong-ohio-fixes-error-in-new-state-license-plate-after-wrong-way-wright-flyer-turbulence.html The new license plate design is horrible. I'm not really sure why a redesign was necessary. It reminds me of the equally ugly 2009 design. Lots of states have had the same or approximately the same design for decades, and I don't understand why we have to reinvent the wheel every 7-10 years. The current design is simple (if you ignore the many light grey slogans) and attractive. Such a waste to go to a busy, gaudy design like this.
  7. Nope. About 70 units which should be 500 sq. ft. average with $1000/mo. rent average. Nice addition that should sell out quickly at those rates.
  8. https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/young-developer-buys-1250-riverbed-building-flats-plans-apartments Some Nice renders here.

Yes, there are lots of potential conflicts and if he's ethical he would be very careful to avoid them. That doesn't mean you can't do both, it just requires ears perked up. Porter Wright lists him as of counsel, so I'm not sure how much lawyering work he actually does, but I assume some.

As a father of 3, say this totally sincerely, not sarcastically: I am sure it's devastating, and I hope he takes the opportunity to focus more on his family and enjoyable things in life that he loves. Life's too short to get bent out of shape about this kind of loss. He's got a comfortable job at Porter Wright and a lot of influence. If he's motivated to do what's best for the city (which I have no reason to doubt he is), there's plenty of opportunity for him to have influence, out of the limelight.

I believe the Sandra Williams endorsement, like the Zack Reed endorsement, is just devastating for Kelley. If you look at the primary results, the map is very bad for Kelley, with Bibb doing reasonably well everywhere and Kelley's support confined to the west side. With Bibb picking up 2/3 endorsements from the east side also-rans, it's just very hard for me to see Kelley's path.
  12. Hopefully the long-term vision is that the opportunity corridor becomes the main auto artery feeding the Clinic so that other roads nearby have the opportunity to become more pedestrian and transit centric. Emphasis on hopefully, because I'm not so sure this will happen.
  13. Healthline, Uptown, the townhomes on Chester, tons of Little Italy development, general housing in Cleveland Heights and Shaker. I can’t believe that University Circle as we know it would exist without the Clinic’s decades of growth. I know you’re playing devil’s advocate, but I think the Clinic’s impact on the surrounding areas is undeniable. Fairfax, Glenville, and Hough are basically the only surrounding areas that haven’t been obviously benefited. Of course benefits are not distributed equitably, and that’s the Clinic’s fault for not trying to address the inequalities. But the Clinic didn’t create the inequalities. It’s totally possible that Glenville, Fairfax, and Hough would look a lot more rough without the Clinic.
  14. I am simultaneously glad that that there is design pushback and biting my fingernails that the pushback doesn't derail this project. It shouldn't--because the changes that are needed shouldn't be that hard to make. So much time has been wasted on this prime land that I hope we get to see the peninsula's wonderful transformation sooner than later.
  15. Wow, loooove the aesthetic. Posh meets grunge. I too am pleasantly surprised by the fermenters, which should earn BrewDog CLE full brewery status. Hopefully we get some local special brews out of it, but if not we’ll at least get more points on the “best beer city” metrics!
  16. This makes me feel gross partly because it's an unacceptable design flaw and partly because it's posted by one of the loudest anti-development voices. I hate that this will probably add a bit of fuel for the anti-development campaigners. But, practically speaking, the city will require this to be fixed and I'm sure the developer would fix it anyway. It's not going to be a big deal.
  17. The site plan makes me feel more comfortable, and should do a LOT to temper some of very negative reactions. This is a tiny sliver of the peninsula. Let's get a foot in the door with SOME development and then we can be more picky about the rest.
  18. I can’t read the articles. Is there any retail component or is it just apartments. I can stomach a bland design, but if there’s not even a bit of retail proposed for a project this size, that seems problematic.
  19. Glenville probably has the best housing stock of any east side neighborhood. It's also still very dense unlike Hough and the forgotten triangle, which often feel like ghost towns. I'm not an expert in economics, but I would think Glenville presents a prime opportunity for well-done infill development to actually benefit many people who live there as opposed to creating a neighborhood where there basically hasn't been one for thirty years.
  20. Exactly. It’s not like this is getting built in the ex-NuCLEus lot. This is HUGE for the neighborhood and area. Honestly, I could see this store attracting shoppers from downtown. This will be the 5th market format Meijer anywhere. And Meijer’s involvement suggests high high levels of confidence that the project will be a success. And the density is perfect. This is the most important project announced so far re University Circle’s success expanding into Fairfax. I just see this as an absolute win and I don’t understand why people aren’t more excited.
  21. I think the design will fit well with the area. It's generally similar to the Uptown development.
  22. Oh well

It’s not, but the vote splits from the primary suggest Bibb has a lot of other things going for him too.

This and the Crains endorsement are like a 1-2 gut punch to Kelley. I'm just repeating myself at this point, but it's hard for me to see Kelley's path to winning anymore.
