  1. I like the design of this but definitely agree with commissioners that the front of Midway along High is often an eyesore There should be a more comprehensive look at how to improve the whole property The Midway building is falling apart and generally filthy, there have been many businesses here over the years (Insomnia, Bento Go Go, Asian Yum Yum) and I think it's time for the next chapter
  2. Maybe it's included in the full plan, but I would like to see a current map with proposed demolitions highlighted Demos appear to include both Lincoln and Morrill towers, St Johns Arena, French Field House, Denney Hall, the Law School, and many others
  3. The height doesn't bother me, Biz1st and dispatch articles make it clear the tower will be 24 stories total. I also like the look of this design better than the initial phase 2 renderings Total phase 2 residential will be ~400 units total with 20% having some level of affordability built-in between the two residential buildings Dispatch also quotes Daimler saying that the grocer is someone who already has a local presence. While I would love to see a TJs I think an MDX, WF or an urban format Meijer like ones in Detroit or Cleveland is more likely
  4. Lots of Granville talk here, but (unless I missed it) no love for Newark? There's a ways to go, sure, but a ton of progress made the last few years and more in the works
  5. The SID will be in charge of maintenance and upkeep, not the city, so they'll be regularly cleaned/maintained to a decent standard That's the whole idea. The ones at Bicentennial Park are locked most of the time to prevent the type of activities you seem to be worried about happening here, for which they are much more susceptible based on their design The portland loo is a proven concept which preemptively mitigates much of the potential maintenance, crime, and cost issues associated with public restrooms https://portlandloo.com/why-loo/
  6. It's pretty clear Ohio Health expected a rubber stamp approval on this, as they made zero changes to the design from the conceptual review despite many suggestions from both city staff and the commissioners So, first I applaud the push back 👏 and second, I hope this means the plan will actually be improved (aka they don't bring back the same POS again next month but with more bushes out front)
  7. You would only have to step a portion of a hypothetical new building's south wall some amount back, say 10-20 feet, and even then only above the 4th floor The parcel has 80'+ of frontage on High street alone, plus along two alleys - it's very developable, the problem is likely the price the owners wish to extort any attempted buyer for
  8. I haven't seen a site plan, but it's the new senior center for Columbus Rec Parks https://columbusrecparks.com/connect/about/capital-improvement-projects/fran-ryan-center/
  9. Interesting map, unsurprisingly almost all of the 'yes' precincts are townships but only 2 hit 60% yes with many much closer to 50-50 Also only one Columbus precinct in the entire county went yes, 49-D, and by a single vote 142-141
  10. 0% chance the airport moves Anyway, full-size renderings from this channel 6 article, https://abc6onyourside.com/news/local/cmh-leaders-pushing-for-a-2-billion-facility-upgrade-columbus-airport-john-glenn-international-travel-flights
  11. Lewis Center Rd at Evans Farm is the perfect location for a stop in my commuter rail fantasy, running a train on those existing tracks from Downtown to Delaware
  12. Finally! I was just thinking recently how we hadn't heard anything about this project in forever... Glad it's been moving forward behind the scenes CAPA bought the church back in way back in 2012 according to this article, https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2012/05/04/capa-buying-central-presbyterian-church/24084492007/ Also, minor but I'd definitely consider this to be Capitol Square, not the RBD
  13. Interesting news, they definitely have a lot of potential buildings to choose from I'm sure they will get a steal wherever they end up I'd like to root for downtown but my guess would be Easton or possibly Grandview Yard
  14. I would hope that's temporary before pavers are installed? But idk
  15. NW24HX replied to ColDayMan's post in a topic in Mass Transit
Belle to Souder is too long of a distance in between stations, there should be one halfway around Mill/ Gift
  16. That's a huge restaurant. I wasn't aware they were adding a second floor, but happy to see it
  17. Tearing that building down would be criminal. Isn't is owned by PACT?
  18. Democrats, civil society groups, and the bipartisan map-making experts briefly employed by the redistricting commission all produced multiple valid statehouse maps which would comply with all constitutional requirements. Republicans were ordered to amend and redraw their unconstitutional maps to be compliant. They refused It can be done, Ohio republicans chose not to do it, and somehow that is still the democrats fault?
  19. Gerrymandering affects much more than just the edges In theory, I have absolutely no problem with a majority republican legislature in Ohio. As we learned in last year's redistricting fiasco, you are correct - over the past 10 years Ohio voters have gone majority republican to the tune of 54 R-46 D However, the problem is that with extreme partisan gerrymandering we have an incredibly high number of non-competitive on their face districts (both R and D) which is out of balance with the actual partisan breakdown of the state That makes the general election an afterthought, and the real election becomes the party primary In turn, that empowers partisan activists to mobilize and effectively seize a statehouse seat with a mere plurality of party primary voters. Effectively, we are getting candidates much further to their party fringe than the true political center of the state, and we're getting a lot more of them That makes for the radicalized legislature we have today, which is only focused on throwing red meat to their base and maintaining an unchallenged grip on power. This dynamic is driving everything we're seeing today from the statehouse - Issue 1, drag show and trans athlete bills, partisanization of the Ohio supreme court, etc
  20. Hypocrisy is a central tenet of today's Ohio Republican Party
  21. I don't really see that being true, at least for the segment shown. However, I do think it would divert a lot of truck traffic off 270 between 70 and 71, and 71 between 270 and Polaris
  22. About time. I'm glad they're making progress in hiring more drivers to continue to add service hours and frequency
  23. Predictably, the new Greyhound 'terminal' aka gas station is off to a rough start ... New Columbus Greyhound terminal fuels anger, concern from neighbors, passengers Just another day, outside the freshly painted former Shell gas station, where men and women slumped against walls, under trees, along curbs and at a nearby Speedway. They slept with blankets and their strewn belongings. Some mumbled to themselves. Others huddled in the small air-conditioned waiting area. A lack of basic services for passengers includes parking, storage lockers, restrooms and even running water. A security guard said the new location is similar to Downtown with people "drinking, smoking, whatever they can do. We either have to break up fights, or we get in fights." https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/2023/07/09/columbus-neighbors-and-passengers-assail-new-greyhound-terminal/70384362007/
  24. The Art Van store is pretty massive, I know at least two car dealerships have looked at converting it and passed I wonder if there could be some kind of non-compete issue with Dave and Busters being a tenant at the mall? Star Lanes is also right there as well
