Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
It's partly because it's an awful rendering, but that design looks pretty bleak Do we know what the white material is? I assume cheap fiber cement ... Some kind of cornice or other element at the top would go a long way

Delaware County: Developments and News
NW24HX replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI'd like to see some news this year from ODOT on improvements to 23 to improve flow for through traffic The current configuration simply does not work with ~50 traffic lights and development continuing unabated. At the very least there needs to be some consolidation to major intersections only

Cleveland: Parking Meters
Even worse (assuming it will be the same as in Columbus - also ParkMobile) the minimum amount of time you can buy in the app is 30 minutes Meaning no more being able to just pop a nickel in and be quick, even a 5 minute stop costs 75 cents - and the time you paid for is wasted as no one else can use it (tied to your license plate)

Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
I'm still intrigued by Motorist's choice to build their tower so far removed from others downtown Maybe they expected more to follow, but they're just as lonely out there today as in this photo

I'd love to see Arshot bow out and sell the land to someone who can put forward a serious proposal but it seems unlikely

Columbus: Fifth by Northwest (5xNW) Development and News
NW24HX replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionNot really a standout design, but not bad at all either. It reminds me of the Rambler on Lane (former Harrison Tower)

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
Below is a comment (long, sorry) that I saw on Reddit that yes is gossip, but I also think shines the most light on what exactly the situation is TL;DR - Rents are rising in general in the area, which is a concern, but this particular dust up seems to be specific to the (mis)management of 400 Rich https://www.reddit.com/r/Columbus/comments/11qpfp1/comment/jc5vf3z/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

NW24HX replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionProbably the wrong thread for this but ever since Burger King bought them Tim Horton's has gone way downhill in general

Columbus: Downtown: Capitol Square Renaissance (Edwards Cos.)
I quite liked the overall composition of the broad street atrium and galleria volumes together, but I think having already removed the larger half (also the one with the more impressive modernist interior space) I don't mind the removal of, or expect Edwards to lean towards preserving, the 3rd street galleria side structure What I do hope any new proposal preserves (in spirit) is the overall modern aesthetic (no faux history next to the actually historic Episcopal church please), and the active retail uses facing the street. We need more ground floor action 360 degrees around Capitol Square

Ohio Abortion / Reproductive Health News
I often see petition circulators outside of public libraries, particularly Whetstone (but I imagine they go to all of them)

Columbus: Restaurant News & Info
NW24HX replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentThe undulating roof of the convention center really is quite impressive from above. I'm glad we're getting more vantage points where that's visible

Columbus: Downtown: The Madison / 100 North High
I do think those large old 80s COTA shelters were better than the clunky ones we have on High St now (statehouse shelters excepted which are actually quite nice)

Ah sorry I wasn't talking about the Huntington Center building, but instead the smaller Huntington Plaza building - SE corner of Broad and Front https://goo.gl/maps/BCQ7VpCaKkULj5TM7

Ohio LGBTQ+ News
These people's obsession with endlessly attacking such a small minority is disgusting. Last year there were what, 2 trans athletes in all of Ohio? OHSAA has already adopted a common sense policy. There's no need for the legislature to involve themselves at all except for virtue signaling to bigots who have never met a trans person in their life - The result of which continues to pile hate and discrimination on one our state's most vulnerable group of kids Also many adults continue to take recreational youth sports way too seriously, likely because it was their personal life peak. Sad all around

Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
Thanks! I thought that might be the case. I'd still like to possibly see the ground floor commercial spaces change over to a more active use if feasible I think one side is vacant and the other is a law office

Columbus: Downtown: Capitol Square Renaissance (Edwards Cos.)
I may have forgotten this, but do we know of any plans or is it part of the current scope of work to also renovate the Galleria portion which fronts onto 3rd? I wonder if Edwards will look to attract new retail tenants for the existing vacant spaces or if he'll pursue a larger redevelopment. That could be the next big announcement we hear

Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
I don't know how many of you were ever in the Ho Toy but I wouldn't mind seeing another restaurant go in (preserving or relocating the existing sign) It's actually a really cool and unique mid-century two story restaurant space (originally a burger king), with an open stair in the front double height bar area There are some challenges to overcome including probably needing to install new ADA compliant restrooms on the 1st floor, but I still think it could be great for a concept with a vision And the third floor can be renovated for either residential or office use

Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
@amped91what's the "Ohio" building conversion you mentioned upthread? And I don't have any information on how likely this would be or what its current vacancy rate is, but I've thought before that the Huntington Plaza building at Broad and Front would make a really nice residential conversion It has huge floor to ceiling windows with views out up and down the river, and the setback at the lobby could be some amazing restaurant patios

Columbus: Downtown: Capitol Square Renaissance (Edwards Cos.)
Okay I was skeptical of the sunken plaza but I'll admit I was wrong and I think it will actually be great The activation with the restaurant on the lower level especially helps. It will really have a 'big city' feel

Really love to see what's happening in Bellefontaine. Always rooting for more of our smaller Ohio cities to grow and thrive

Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
Interesting that they are keeping the pawn shop open below I had missed the news apparently, but I didn't know that Uncle Sam's had closed across the street back in 2019. To be fair it always kind of looked closed even when it was open, but I swear I've seen the neon signs on even recently Anyway, that's a pretty prime spot for redevelopment next IMO. I'd like to see the corner brick building saved, but really the rest of that block could go and get something dense and new which would fill in the gap all the way to the Harlow Do we know who owns that property? Meat Packers Outlet is also closed, so are the upper floors occupied or is the entire block vacant?

Whitehall: Developments and News
It reminds me a lot of the Continent actually - a single 'urban-feel' pedestrian strip that's a bit dressed up, surrounded by surface parking and more run-of-the-mill apartments Which, yes it's not Bridge Park, but I think can be a nice thing for Whitehall and the surrounding area where most of the action happens in places that look like a 1960s strip mall
