  1. Some of the SFHs look pretty good IMO, much better at least than a typical suburban product. But the mixed-use buildings... yikes Completely agree with you they had the right idea there, but the execution is awful
  2. Intel's US factories could be taken over by Taiwanese firm after Trump request - Bloomberg Taiwanese contract manufacturer TSMC is considering taking a controlling stake in chipmaker Intel's factories at the request of U.S. President Donald Trump's officials, Bloomberg News reported on Friday. Trump's team raised the idea of a deal between the two firms in recent meetings with officials from TSMC, and they were receptive, Bloomberg reported, citing a person familiar with the matter. https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2025/02/14/trump-intel-chip-factories-us-tsmc-taiwanese-manufacturer/78635465007/
  3. Sounds like it just hasn't been recorded yet according to the article. Huntington plans to keep their branch open in the historic lobby via a long term lease with DCI
  4. I wouldn't mind if the "experience park" were developed or reimagined at some point, but that could take many forms
  5. Agree that it's unfortunate. Pre-COVID, the SN seemed to be getting some real momentum as a potential urban retail destination with national brands like Anthropologie, Bonobos, Warby Parker, and Lululemon setting up shop. 5 years later they're all gone... And it's not that I want the SN to be taken over by chain stores, far from it, but the truth is the neighborhood is already being taken over by bars and restaurants (and many of those now are chains). The presence of national brands indicates a strong retail market in general, and having a selection of them in the neighborhood brought balance and was a convenience for city dwellers to do their shopping in the core without having to trek out to Easton or Polaris Ideally we'd have a strong shopping district (with these brands and more) in downtown proper, which is the norm worldwide outside of the US. And we actually had that, but it died in the mid-00s, was buried, and will be a long, long climb back to get something even close to resembling what we lost. The SN is now much stronger than downtown, and I was heartened by the expansion of retail in the neighborhood throughout the 2010s. Unique, local stores are the backbone of the SN and should remain so, but a curated mix of national brands in addition helps them thrive as well by driving more shopping traffic overall IMO - a rising tide lifts all boats. In any event, for the time being that boat is clearly in choppy waters if not sinking. I'm hopeful 2025 brings us some good news that can start to turn back the tide
  6. Not defending the list either way but is it possible their "Top 10 stories" are simply the ones that had the most views/clicks/shares/etc? It would fit with the trend of regurgitating lazy data analytics (of questionable merit) for additional "content" instead of you know, actually putting some thought or editorial effort into curating a ranking more reflective of real community impact
  7. I agree. It's a shame the city is allowing Ohio Health to close off 6th between State and Town instead of requiring them to bridge over. We should be doing what we can to reconnect the street grid in this area not further exacerbate its disconnection IMO
  8. You could tell me this was an impressionist painting and I'd believe it
  9. Shame we lost the entry porticos. Still, adding some landscaping (like shown in the rendering) would help a lot
  10. This is getting off topic, but I've always thought the perfect location for the zoo would have been just north of 270 at 23 where the golf course/Josephinum/Woods subdivision are. The college didn't move there from downtown until the 30s so they could have found another site. The mall and other retail/restaurant/hotels at that intersection have struggled since Polaris opened but proximity to a major anchor like the zoo would have been mutually beneficial. It's crazy to me for being such an attraction that the closest hotels to stay at near the zoo are the 270/33 cluster in Dublin Back on topic, while I wouldn't choose to live there the development happening off 71 in Sunbury does make a lot of sense given both the proximity to Polaris and appeal of a relatively easier freeway commute vs the congested stop and go traffic light hell that 23 has become north of the outerbelt
  11. Wow I hope that's a typo... less than 500 is rough even for a studio...
  12. So phase 2 of this will wipe out COTA's Dublin park and ride lot... I hope there are plans to provide an alternative for riders I believe the Dublin route is one of the better performing suburban express services. Maybe they're planning an arrangement for space in the new garage?
  13. The two park spaces should be development sites IMO And 4th needs the full cap treatment. I hope the city can kick in some extra $$$ for this, we're going to be stuck with it for a long time
  14. Please don't let Children's buy it to expand their surface parking lot ...
  15. I'd love to see it but seems unlikely, as drug store chains are hurting in general right now The ground floor retail space in the 34 N High building (owned by our favorite slumlords the Tonti Organization) actually used to be a CVS. When Woolworth's closed all stores in 1997, Arshot redeveloped their building at 109 S High and CVS relocated into that space before ultimately closing for good in 2022
  16. It's a shame there'll be zero retail or restaurant spaces fronting onto the park when this is all done As a matter of fact it's a shame Yard St is completely dead at the ground level from 1st south, essentially all the way to Goodale
  17. Parking on the ground floor is really the most egregious issue here IMO. That could've easily been a small shallow retail space and not impacted the overall garage layout or number of spaces
  18. I'm curious how occupied the Wyandot building currently is? If it's close to full with office then sure, I get not messing with success but it's by far the best candidate for a condo conversion
  19. Even their own report says the overall building structure is fine, it just needs certain elements repaired - which these owners have not only refused to do, but also refused to do even basic weatherproofing or stabilization (for almost 3 years at this point). It's blatant and deliberate neglect in the hopes of furthering cause for demolition
  20. Looks like something that belongs on Olentangy River Rd
  21. Wish we could get the downspouts off of the front facade but otherwise yes completely agree
  22. The open parking garage facing High St is my biggest disappointment about this
  23. The last one I can remember actually happening is converting the old Cord Camera downtown into Heartland Bank (and giant wrap around ad screen) https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/print-edition/2013/02/08/project-will-give-life-to-corner-site.html Bill Schottenstein (Arshot) has developed a good number of projects both large and small over the years, but was most successful in the 90s and 00s. For the last decade plus? Very little
  24. Ironically, the Fifth Third Center was an Arshot project that actually happened (mostly thanks to Wolfe money)
  25. We can likely thank the big money developers (like Robert Weiler) funding Ginther & Co at city hall for that
