Cleveland: Retail News
I doubt it's Bedrock selecting only locals, but rather simply that no national businesses have been interested That would be consistent with the typical downward trajectory of indoor shopping malls, whether downtown or otherwise

Columbus: Westland Developments and News
NW24HX replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI'm not so opposed, depending on how it fits into a potential new street grid across the site. Check out the streetview link below - the Northland Penney's you could easily assume is a new building after its renovation (of course it's a shame it only faces the backside of a Krogers but that's a problem with the site plan not from having saved the building) https://maps.app.goo.gl/oC9tSbrhjNBi9qWL8

Columbus: Downtown: The Madison / 100 North High
100% agree A higher number of small storefronts offering a variety of businesses is much more desirable for increasing street-level activity downtown vs a single large tenant space. And it also reduces the cost for operators, giving businesses reasonable-sized spaces they can actually afford to rent

Columbus: Downtown: Discovery District / Warehouse District / CSCC / CCAD Developments and News
NW24HX replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt certainly makes it better to look at now (vs a blank wall), but unless they've secured an easement or other agreement with the Firestone property it's odd to see windows on what I assume is a zero-setback lot line on the north side... Hopefully future residents complaints about losing their view won't impede any potential development on the rest of the block

Columbus: Westland Developments and News
NW24HX replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionInteresting, that's the former JC Penney. I have no specific knowledge of the plans for Westland but they may see the structure as suitable for an adaptive reuse Both the Penney's and Lazarus anchor stores were kept and renovated to new uses at the former Northland mall site. Lazarus is now the Ohio Department of Taxation, and Penney's is the Department of Job and Family Services / Northland Performing Arts Center

Columbus: Downtown: The Madison / 100 North High
Things could've changed since 2020, but this article (and renderings) indicate it will only take the former Brioso space on the corner, not extending into the Madison's building. However, the space will have a mezzanine level as well as an expansive sidewalk patio https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2020/10/27/french-bistro-take-over-former-brioso-space-downtown/6052036002/

Columbus: Random Development and News
NW24HX replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionGenerally I agree from a pedestrian standpoint, but It does significantly hurt the appeal of transit for commuting. At times the 2 and 102 can barely manage to crawl through the SN, which is one of the main reasons I stopped using COTA daily to get from Clintonville to a job downtown Ideally we'd have a transit tunnel under this portion of High, but of course that's wildly out of reach for the foreseeable future in this country

Columbus: Downtown: Merchant Building
I think WFH has probably impacted NM (and downtown generally) the most, as there are a lot less people in the immediate area making up the weekday lunch crowd. The construction no doubt has some impact as well, whether real or perceived, but any doom and gloom comments seem overblown, especially with the city stepping up with cash subsidies to offset lower footfall Like the SN streetscape work, there will be some short term pain until completion but the end result will be worth it

NW24HX replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI sure hope those three units are unoccupied. Can't say I would be pleased if a banner like that was blocking my balcony, especially with a large blank wall available just around the corner...

Columbus: Weinland Park Developments and News
Interesting... Panzica is the Cleveland developer behind Bridgeworks. I wonder if they are doing it in some kind of partnership with Lykens? Or if he sold it and cashed out

Worthington: Developments and News
There's probably also a certain amount of keeping up with the joneses at play. One suburb sees what another now has in their fancy brand new school, and suddenly their current one feels a lot more outdated and inadequate by comparison

Cedar Point
NW24HX replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentCedar Point ordered by Ohio Supreme Court to turn over police records The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that Cedar Point's police department must turn over records requested by three Ohio television stations. In a unanimous decision, the court ruled that under the state's Public Records Act, the department must turn over the documents regarding an injury that occurred near the Top Thrill Dragster roller coaster in 2021, plus any records related to sexual assault reports in the park's employee dorms between April 1, 2017 and March 22, 2022. https://www.wkyc.com/article/news/investigations/ohio-supreme-court-orders-cedar-point-police-records-3news-tegna-sister-stations/95-f6a4359d-96f1-40e2-85f4-2417f1e7c936

2024 US Senate Race
Nice boost for Brown with Moreno getting the Trump endorsement Dolan is the most likely R to win the general, but the least likely to make it out of the primary. And this endorsement probably seals the deal on that

Columbus: Mayor Andrew Ginther
The Columbus Way™ continues unabated, Special prosecutor to investigate Ginther's call to judge in Columbus bus terminal case The Columbus City Attorney's office has agreed to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate allegations that Mayor Andrew J. Ginther called a judge, telling her how to rule on a pending case. Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein's office has appointed Brad Nicodemus, an assistant city attorney for Whitehall, to look into Ginther allegedly telling Franklin County Environmental Judge Stephanie Mingo in early October that she should agree with the city and shutter a controversial new Greyhound bus depot on the West Side. ... Mingo said she told Ginther his call raised ethical concerns and ended it immediately, while quickly calling attorneys for the bus companies and the city to a conference to report that a potentially improper "ex parte communication" had occurred with an official from the city. At the conference, held several weeks before the election, Mingo declined inquiries by both sides to identify the city official, saying she would not do so unless compelled. However, two weeks after the election, which secured Ginther another four-year term, Mingo agreed to the bus companies' demands and named Ginther as the person who had made the call. https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/2023/12/21/special-prosecutor-to-review-ginthers-phone-call-to-judge/72000122007/

The AI rendering is comically awful ... I can't believe they've now presented that multiple times. I really don't understand it either bc guaranteed the architecture firm has a 3D model ... There's no reason they can't give us an actual image, even if it's not a flashy fancy rendering. At this point a screenshot of it in model space would tell us more about what's actually going on with this building than the provided "rendering" And I believe there's no retail, just parking, lobby, and fitness center for residents only - which is a shame

It's likely this part of Phase 2 is not dependant on the TMUD, so it can move forward now. The tower will be a wait... even if they win the full tax credit. Just look at how long NM tower has taken, even with every incentive in the book

- Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
It seems odd to me there's no stop in Monroe, MI - between Toledo and DTW... is there a particular reason for that? - Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
