Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
I hate to say this, but as a Daytonian. . .I was looking forward to riding the train down to cincy and taking advantage of the games and all that is to offer in the city center.. .however, if the train ends in sharonville, there is absolutely no reason for me to ride it down there and I think that's going to be the case for a lot of people. . .sorry, that's just my opinion. . no one is going to want to hop on a bus for an additional 15 mile ride into the city after being on the train. :-( It needs to go into the city core for this initial phase. I realize there are roadblocks, but they can be overcome.

Dayton: NCR
I think the plan is for UDRI to occupy the building and expand its operation at the former NCR WHQ. I think it's a fantastic move for the university and udri. As for the business school, I think there's already something in the works for them with the land that was previously purchased along stewart st. I believe the plan is to put retail/business ventures on the bottom floors of those buildings (like university place) and its going to tie into the entrepreneurship program. . .but what is also REALLY cool is that UD is working with the job center to have people (think displaced factory workers or working poor) work in these businesses so they can develop their skillsets as they go to sinclair and then onto potentially a 4 year school so they can receive the skills needed for better employment. I'm uber impressed at how much UD has done for this area and they do so without much fanfare. . .I think they've done more than the city government has for dayton.

Dayton Skyline and Randomness, OCT 09
Woodland Cemetery. . .it's pretty amazing. Probably one of Dayton's most hidden gems. I really wish I had a better camera (I used a point and click) but then again, I wish I knew more about photography too. Dayton is slowly crawling out of the recession, much like many other cities around the country. I'm hopeful for its future! PS. . DAI was packed. . I had to park across at the Masonic temple. . there were people everywhere at DAI, inside and outside sketching and taking pictures. . .and downtown was relatively busy as well. A beautiful sight indeed. Also, the Caresource building up close is amazing. What a wonderful job they did! Very impressed

Dayton: NCR
Having worked at NCR for a number of years and under the Bill Nuti regime, I can tell you unequivocally, this is about his ego. Every decision he makes always is. Whether NCR employees will admit it or not, I think everyone knew in the back of their minds that there was good chance of WHQ moving. As discussed on this thread, Bill never made the effort to move nor made an effort to really be in Dayton. There were rumors always floating around the company that WHQ would relocate to either: Atlanta, NYC or Rancho Bernardo (CA) . . .Now we know it’s Atlanta. When I heard WCS was moving to Atlanta last year, there was enormous bright red flags. WCS is the division in NCR that pretty much pumps all the $$ into the Dayton economy with out of towners. NCR would fly in people from around the country/world and they would train in Dayton on how to serves the atms, kiosks. . etc. These employees were put up in hotels and spent money during their stay on entertainment, food, lodging etc. . They were pretty much the only group in NCRU which was the training center on the 2nd floor. Once it was announced WCS would move, I knew there was trouble. Wait. . .I knew there was trouble when Teradata (the most profitable division of NCR) was spun off. Also, look for teradata to be gobbled up by HP in the upcoming years. Mark Hurd wants them BAD. . and TD fits perfectly into HP’s portfolio making them uber competive in a segment where they currently are not. . .TD’s biggest competitor is IBM. Oh yeah and the HP CEO used to be the NCR CEO and before that was Teradata’s president. Anyway, back to NCR. . .they are losing the ATM war with Diebold and is now focusing on point of sell technologies. . . whether or not they can be successful is yet to be seen, however I think moving WHQ is disruptive and does more harm than good. I can tell you that they had NO shortage of talent in Dayton and the line they are feeding about being unable to recruit, is just that. . a line. They had extremely talented people beating down the doors trying to get jobs there. What most don’t know is that pretty much any job that is not customer facing or is behind the scenes had long been shipped to India or The Philippines. To NCR, this is not ‘outsourcing’ b/c they are a global company. . .they would just say that jobs were being relocated to their “Asia Field Offices” IT and tech support wasn’t in Dayton, it was in India. Customer Service? Well, you’d talk to some in Dayton, but as soon as you hung up. . everything was sent to the Philippines and they were the ones sending out invoices, tracking shipments, making pricing corrections etc. So, in some ways it will be less painful to watch a dying company from a far and not in Dayton. But, it probably won’t come to that. . see in putting the pieces together, I think Bill wants the $25 million dollar clause that’s in his contract. He’ll be able to collect it if he is able to successfully sell NCR. . .and what has he done? Shed assets, spun of divisions, cut employees and now he has moved WHQ in an effort to probably make the company more marketable. Hello Buyers! It’s a shame that the board of directors would let him get away with such a thing, but then again he hand picked them. When Teradata split, he placed all of his friends on the board, so he pretty much has free reign on anything he wants to do. . .must be good for the ego, huh?

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
What's interesting is that Dayton is plotted on the map that was released today, but was left off of the above list that the FRA released. . .anyone know why??

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
oh.. oh name it parkside. . then everyone in dayton will think that's where they shipped the people up here in the projects! parkside is a dirty little word up here in dayton. Are the 2 cities close enough for people to be confused? possibly. . . So, if we are going for a name. . albeit confusing. . I vote for 'The Riverfront District' or simply: The Riverfront :-)

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Thanks KJP and noozer. . .it makes much more sense to me now. One last question: Can High Speed Trains run on the same track as Passeneger Trains? Or does that entail a completely different type of rail/track. . .Thanks!

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
There's so much info out there on this, that I'm utterly confused. Can someone break it down on what projects are most likely to move forward? I saw the stimulus map with the high speed rail that looks like it connects cincy, columbus, cleveland and I think toledo. Is that different than the ohio high speed rail project? Is dayton included in this? Then I read about strickland's plan to connect the 3c's. . .is this different than the stimulus money/plan? Is this high speed rail or not? Will stimulus money be used? Ugh. . .my head is spinning.. .I want to think maybe they are one in the same, but the map put out by the US Gov made it more confusing. Help!?!? :-)

Dayton: NCR
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Bill Nuti has a $25 million clause in his contract that he will be able to cash in if he is able to successfully sell NCR. . .there's a reason that divisions are being spun off, while others are being relocated out of Dayton and that he himself did not relocate to Dayton. As an NCR employee, it was daily that we heard about another piece of NCR being sold (Old River, the building to DDN, the land they had throughout Dayton) If you look into his past he did the exact same thing at his previous companies. . .Cisco/Symbol Technologies anyone???! I also know they pay an astronomical amount for the space in Manhattan to re-locate their 'executive staff' CEO greed, indeed??!? PS. . .NCR only has 2 divisions left in the Dayton WHQ: Retail and Consumables. . .and consumables has been on the market FOREVER. . .they can't get anyone to buy it. It's the albatross of NCR. Just a year ago the NCR WHQ housed WCS (now in Atlanta), Teradata (spun off), FSD & RSD (now Retail) SMD (now consumables) The training center (NCRU..which is now in Atlanta) and all the executives (NYC)

Dayton: Downtown: Development and News
PrfctTimeOfDay replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionI drove by this twice today. . once in the daylight and once at night. I've decided that from a distance I don't like it as well, it just looks like a big ol black box, I think they need to trim it out a little better and maybe at the top. But, from up close, I really like the look of it a lot better. . .but I still think there are little touches that need to be added. Also, I drove by tonight and there is no blue neon light. . .I REALLY hope it gets added back in, b/c I barely could make this buidling out in the dark sky. . it was PITCH black. . . . Also. . .Caresource looks FANTASTIC from 75 and I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the entire top of the Carersource building is outlined with a neon light that appears to dim into different colors. . .I think I saw Green, Blue, Purple, Red and a Pinkish color. . .it looks amazing.

The Baking / Cooking / Recipe Thread
I call this Cuppa, Cuppa, Cuppa. . . but I think 'technically' it's called Sweet Vidalia Onion Dip 2 cups chopped-fine sweet onions 2 cups mayonnaise 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8x8 or 9x9 inch baking dish. In a medium bowl, mix together sweet onions, mayonnaise and Swiss cheese. Transfer mixture to the baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven 20 to 30 minutes, or until bubbly and lightly browned. Cool before serving. I LOVE to eat this dip with Oasis or Sahara Cuisine Pita Chips, but I think any bagel chip, tortilla chip or sturdy cracker would work. Also, throw in a dash or 2 of tabasco before you bake if you like a little kick.
