From DDN, it also includes Montgomery Country which makes up a big chuck of the metro: Breakdown of Montgomery County's 2007 homicides, according to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office: Dayton: 33 Harrison Twp.: 6 Jefferson Twp.: 3 Kettering: 1 Riverside: 1 Miami Twp.:1 Englewood:1
  2. How did you get access to this? I'd be very interested to see these plans. I know DMHA have closed two additional projects, one near Wisconsin Blvd, and another up on the hill off of McCall Ave, so it be interesting to see where these folks were relocated as well as the Parkside residences. I could do sort of a geography of public housing dispersal if I had this info. It was presented at one of the Oakwood meetings, when DMHA came in. . .they had a powerpoint breaking it all down. I don't remember all the specifics, but I do remember they were renovating or had just recently renovated 60...yes 60 units in Germantown to move people into. . . .a far cry from what they were doing in Kettering/Oakwood. There was also another slide breaking down where they were moving too. . .it looked like everyone was getting scattered throughout Montgomery County. They broke it down by zip code and city.. . .but I remember seeing Washington Twp, Kettering, West Carollton, Clayton, Vandalia, Huber Heights.. . .and of course Oakwood and Germantown. There was a lot of talk from the DMHA people about how tearing Parkisde down and scattering those people in other areas would give them the opportunity to assimilate and in the end would reduce overall crime, b/c they would now have a better life and be out of that environment. Hmmmmmmmm
  3. Touche! Mine is also the Landing. . .
  4. Ronnie, we must live within a mile of each other. I can say that within the last year or so, there has been an uptick in crime within Oakwood. However, I know Oakwood is really starting to patrol the Shroyer area and has hired additional public safety officers. . . I'm not sure what to make of it all. . . . .
  5. When all the section 8 Oakwood brouhaha was going on, I started to dig for information on what all the fuss was about? That is when I found about DMHA's plans to tear down Parkside and scatter those displaced people throughout Montgomery County. I saw their plans on where they were putting people, and I remember thinking it was a bit odd that they were shipping a huge chunk of displaced residents from Urban Dayton to rural Germantown??? I don't know if it's a coincidence or not. . . Rash of break-ins occupies police in two townships Jackson Twp. had 17 incidents on Dec. 22, after having hardly any in over a year; German Twp. had 7 or 8 on Dec. 27. By William G. Schmidt Contributing Writer Friday, January 04, 2008 GERMAN TWP., Montgomery County — A rash of recent break-ins has German Twp. and Jackson Twp. police working overtime. "On the 27th (December) we had seven or eight incidents in one day," said German Twp. Police Chief Lew Wilcox. "They went into a couple of barns, stole a truck," he said. "They just created general havoc in the area." ATVs, guns and tools were taken, too. Wilcox said a Yamaha All Terrain Vehicle valued at $1,200 was probably the most expensive item stolen. "The next day, somebody — and we think it was the same group — went up on Route 4 near Germantown-Liberty Road," Wilcox said. A trailer was stolen from behind a house and tools were taken from a garage. http://www.daytondailynews.com/n/content/oh/story/news/local/2008/01/03/ddn010408breakins.html

Here's the press release that WGI just put out: 10 million being put into the economy is really nice! I'm glad we have it as opposed to Indy! Home Sweet Home Dec 17, 2007 Winter Guard International the “Sport of the Arts” known as the world leader in promoting indoor color guard and percussion ensemble competitions, in partnership with the Dayton/Montgomery County Convention & Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce that its headquarters and world championships will remain in the greater Dayton area through 2014. Within the agreement there is an option that both the color guard and/or percussion event may relocate to another city once during that period. “This is excellent news for the Greater Dayton area,” states Jacquelyn Y. Powell, President/CEO of the Dayton Montgomery County Visitors and Convention Bureau. “Each April the WGI Color Guard and Percussion World Championship events collectively bring nearly 40,000 spectators as well as nearly 12,000 participants over both weekends generating a significant positive economic impact.” The board of directors considered another proposal from the City of Indianapolis that would bring major music organizations (BOA, DCI, PAS & WGI) into one city. However, the need for multiple contest arenas at affordable cost in addition to the challenges of other conventions in Indianapolis during April led to the decision to remain in Dayton. “We are very pleased with the outcome of the year-long process in making this strategic decision,” said Executive Director Ron Nankervis. “The option of relocating either world championship during the next six years will give us an opportunity to bring our event to another area while providing WGI with the financial stability we have in Dayton.” The WGI World Championships are held every April attracting groups from as many 35 states and overseas competitors from England, Japan, Netherlands and South Africa. The two three-day events have an overall economic impact of over $10,000,000 in the Greater Dayton area. WGI President Randy Nelson said, “We are excited to be in Dayton for another five years and appreciate the positive working relationship throughout the community while recognizing the fact that both Montgomery and Greene Counties have been instrumental in the success and growth of WGI.” http://www.wgi.org/news_detail.php?id=1266

As a Daytonian who is heavily involved in WGI, all I can say is HOORAY!!!! I had inside info that this was not going to happen, I'm super glad it did... :-D Winter Guard signs deal to remain in Dayton By Staff Report Monday, December 17, 2007 DAYTON — Winter Guard International has agreed to keep its headquarters and its world championships in Dayton through 2014, a news release states... http://www.daytondailynews.com/b/con...rguardweb.html
  10. Oh good. . .I hope it's just the angle. I can't wait to see a timeline and more information about this project!
  11. I still like it, but prefer the original rendering. . .this one looks a bit more boxy. . .maybe it's just the scale of the pic?
  12. I really hope this gets built and they break ground soon. I think the current rendering is gorgeous and I hope the finished building closely resembles the rendering! :-D
  13. Another Day, Another Change. . .who knows!?! Arcade's owner resumes sale talks Deal may hinge on unnamed stipulations. Thursday, December 13, 2007 DAYTON — The ongoing roller coaster ride that has raised hopes and dashed dreams of redevelopment for Dayton's historic Arcade crested yet another hill Wednesday. Tony Staub of Brownfield Charities Inc., owner of the five-building complex, came back to the negotiating table with developer Bob Schiffler, and the two men say they're close to a deal. http://www.daytondailynews.com/n/content/oh/story/news/local/2007/12/13/ddn121307arcadefolo.html
  14. Ugh. . . Looks like it's going to be foreclosed, unless there is a christmas miracle.
  15. I keep watching this site http://www.cityofdayton.org/planning/board_agendas.asp#CPB_Agendas for them to post the minutes from the 11/27 meeting. Hopefully, they'll be up soon and it'll gives us some insight on if this is a go or not.
  16. Interesting in this article there is no mention of the hotel's height. . .unless I missed it! ;-)
  17. Heck, if they think they can make it work, then I say build it, but I just can't figure out geographically where they could place it? The idea of 3 25 story buildings make sense, but I don't think their intent is that. . .I really think they just want the tallest hotel, thus will never build 3 mid sized buildings. . . .they are looking for a ploy for people to stay there, a marketing schtick. That would be my guess. . .if they build it, it will be tall, I don't forsee a compromise....but I don't forsee it happening either.
  18. I would think for security reasons alone, it couldn't be built anywhere near WPAFB!?!?!
  19. HUH??? Pretty ambitious. . .doubt it'll happen. A hotel in Dayton that's taller than 73 stories? riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight  Kudos if they can pull it off, but it better be downtown and not in the gutter of Riverside. In fact, If the museum does move forward, I'd like to see them seek out the arcade as a possible place to have such a museum. http://dayton.bizjournals.com/dayton/stories/2007/12/03/story6.html
  20. Does anyone know what took place at the meeting today?
  21. I was really hoping that this was the type of residential unit they were going to put in a Deed Park as part of Ball Park Village, but I still think they are planning on having townhouses, so having this built by DAI makes me VERY happy!!
  22. Hooray.. . .I really hope this comes to fruition. I love the rendering. In other news....have you seen the progress on the Caresource building? It looks mammoth from the highway. I believe that going to be ALL glass once it's done
  23. I'm really not sold on that logo or tag line. . .

Everytime I hear or drive through Springboro, I always think of the show "Weeds" on Showtime, because Agrestic (the subdivion where nancy and friends live) reminds me of Settlers Walk and Springboro....in fact sometimes when I'm driving through I'll sing the theme song! hope you like the lyrics! :) For your viewing pleasure: Little boxes on the hill side, little boxes made of ticky tacky. Little boxes, little boxes, little boxes all the same. There’s a green one and a pink one and a blue one and a yellow one, And they’re all made out of ticky tacky, and they all look just the same. And the people in the houses all went to the university Where they were put in boxes, little boxes, all the same. And there’s doctors and there’s lawyers, and there’s business executives And they’re all made out of ticky tacky and they all look just the same. And they all play on the golf course and drink their martini dry And they all have pretty children and the children go to school And the children go to summer camp and then to the university Where they all get put in boxes and they all come out the same. And the boys go into business and marry and raise a family In boxes, little boxes, little boxes all the same. There’s a green one and a pink one and a blue one and a yellow one And they’re all made out of ticky tacky and they all look just the same.
