  1. I've driven through downtown the last 2 nights on 75 and have been so disappointed not even be able to see the 5/3 tower. I was on 75 south and could not even make out the tower at night until I got up to malfunction junction. Is there anyone that could help or anything we can do to try and get them to light it up again at night??? Thoughts?

Yes, I did forget to mention that. ...these are pretty much week long events in Indy! And yes they go out and spend tons of money...especially when you have a mall connected to the hotels/convention center/Dome. Plus there are a TON of great restuarants within walking distance. And yes...there are more of us than you think!!! :-)

After my day job I work with High School Marching Bands and Colorguards/Winterguards throughout the country and I can tell you that Indianapolis has made a tremendous push to get the National competitions of Marching Bands and Drum Corps to be held in Indy. Let me tell you, they have succeeded and it is going to amount to Millions of dollars in tourist revenue. The have signed both Drum Corps International and Bands of America to long term (10 year) deals to have their National Competitions in Indy. How did they do it? I’m not really sure, but I know that the city of Indy peeps consulted BOTH organizations on the acoustics of the new stadium they are building (for the colts) to make sure they gave them the best possible acoustics for their venues and I think that went a LONG way with both organizations. In fact they both moved their headquarters to INDY after that. So there must have been a sweet deal. Now, I think Indy is going for the trifecta….which would be WGI (Winterguard International) This scares me as WGI has long been established in the Dayton Area and their National Champions are held in the UD area. It is one of the largest events for the Dayton Area, and if it goes to Indy so will millions of tourist dollars as well as the WGI headquarters. PS…I also think the INDY convention center is connected to their dome as well. BOA Grand Nationals in Indy usually hosts about 90 bands with an avaerage of 150 in each band, equates to 13,500 people just in the bands alone. Add in all their staff, parents, friends, fans and you're well over 30K people that are flooding downtown indy's restuarants, hotels etc. Same will also go for the DCI Championships...well over 30K people. It was a brilliant move on Indy's part...
  4. Yeah, I would LOVE to know why this is not lit....but I'm not sure how I could find out. . .
  5. Here's a silly question, but I'll ask anyway. Does anyone know why the top of the 5/3 tower is never lit anymore? I really love to see that green pointy top at night and I have not seen it lit in months. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks! :-)
  6. I have to go with the Dayton Daily News as well! www.daytondailynews.com For an alternative paper, I really like the Dayton City Paper
  7. If it were me...I'd make Centerville the one with the Lexus, Beavercreek the mini-van one and Oakwood the Hummer/BMW one.
  8. I acutally got an email today called "dayton barbies" which was the columbus barbies' descriptions just with a dayton town inserted instead of a columbus one

  10. I was going to say the turnout was for the martha stewart book signing.. :-) LOL I kid! But great photos!!
  11. I may not know what SID is. But I consider the Oregon, Webster Station, Mcphersontown, DAI and a few other areas all part of downtown. they may not be part of the official boundaires, but really those areas are part of downtown dayton....at least to me they are. I would also presume that almost everyone else would agree?? Why can't the DDP market these areas? What are the SID rules?
  12. Here's the chart from the DDN with what they want to do, Let the ripping a part of it begin.. :|

  17. So, I know there was a fire about a month ago, and I still see the plywood up over the windows that were broken out b/c of the fire. But....seriously, How long does it take to replace these windows? It's starting to get really cold out. I sure hope they get them replaced soon. Does anyone know if anything is getting done about this?

Hi, I was wondering if someone out there may be able to help me. Last year, at my previous job, the company had a charity drive and one of the Dayton Charities selected was a place that donated household items to elderly people and or widows/ers that were on a limited budget or could not make it from their homes to buy such items. I remember donating such items as boxes of tissues, toothbrushes, deodorant, combs etc. I have been searching in vain for 2 days to track down this organization, so that I can donate again to them this year, but so far have had no luck. Does anyone know that name of this charity or if this sounds similar to a charity that may be in Dayton?? Thanks a bunch for your help!
  19. I'm 29 and yes I'm looking like mad for a new job...but in the meantime, I have to play nice, I can't afford to be fired. I watched her do that already to a co-worker, who decided to not play nice. She got rid of him within a week and he had been with company for almost 10 years.
  20. Ok, let's recap today's events. I went into work about 9:00. Coming in late was my silent protest, but as the day went on I felt guily and worked until 6:00. Ugh. I did get a copy of my review and HR file. I pretty much kept to myself all day, as I was really busy and remained at my desk. The few times I did get up, I saw my co-workers playing solitare and surfing on E-bay....AH, yes the ones that are now making 5K more than me. I went back to my desk and quietly fummed and went about my work. Around 4:15 a co-worker comes over to get a buffalo chicken dip recipe from me for her OSU party. At this point, this is the first time I see my boss all day. She says to me...oh I'd love a copy of that recipe too...which leads to more talking which eventually leads to talking about drinking. I think she may be a closet alchy..but I have nothing to back that up. Anyway, she asks me my thoughts on our xmas party and what she should do...inside I'm thinking give me the d*mn money for the party, since you screwed me out of a raise. But I just smiled and suggested taking the group to Dave and Busters. God, it's hard to be nice to her, much less hold a conversation. Also, I am bonus eligible...so any thoughts on how long I have to stay there to recieve this? Sadly, I truly enjoy my job and the people I work with.....but it's evident I'm getting set up by her to fail. Funniest thing said to me today from my boss is "I never ever know if you're here anymore." I just recently moved my desk to be closer to a co-worker who handles some of the same accounts as I do. I guess my boss not knowing if I'm there or not could be a good thing. But, I'm literally 25 feet away...all she would have to do is walk over. PS...I've traded listening to the Patty Griffin CD to listening to the new Damien Rice song "9 Crimes."
  21. Nonetheless, this gave me a much needed laugh! Thanks...
  22. That's my favorite one!!! "Living With Ghosts" It's one of my top 5 albums . . .And everywhere is somewhere but nowhere is near.
  23. Thanks for all the input.... My current boss has only been in her role for about 7 months. The turnover for her role is not very often, however, she has already had 3 people quit working for her. I did think for a minute about the whole "we hope you're not looking for a new job" line as a trick to make me think otherwise...to be honest I'm not sure if it's is true or not. The person who told me about the salaries is a very close friend on mine and has access to see that information. He toyed with not telling me, as it could land him in trouble. He's not a gossip, but really thought I should know this, as he thought it crucial to my employment and advancement or lack their of. I have thought about going to HR or her boss, but unfortunately, she is good friends with the people in both of those positions and I think going to them would just lead to more grief. Someone did go to HR about how she treated someone in an interview and HR went right to her and told her what was said and who the person was who said it!! AHHHH...Code of Conducts??! Thanks for the advice of getting a signed copy of my review and looking at my HR file...I'll be doing that tomorrow! I have started looking like crazy for a new job.... I just keep telling myself, that I'll be making the same as last year, and that I'll be okay....I was okay last year and I'll be okay this year....that and listening to my Patty Griffin CD is getting me through this
  24. So, I have a dilemma. Thanks.
