Anyone know of a GOOD guide/Website to Dayton?
I'm trying to pull some information together for some people coming to dayton, and I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a website that is an ultimate guide to Dayton...or if there are various sites which are the best to find hotels, restuarants, attractions...etc.?? Any input is greatly appreciated! :-)

Sycamore Township: Kenwood Towne Centre
PrfctTimeOfDay replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionMy guess is that Parisian will be replaced with Von Maur...the same "upscale" store that Dayton's The Greene will be getting...it's just a guess :-)

Help needed: Photoshop and other Picture editing
After endless googling and reading through FAQ and manuals to no avail, I'm hoping someone can help me out on a picture I'm trying to edit. I'm not very tech savvy and I'm not sure how to go about the following, but on the picture below, I'm trying to edit out the words "After Dark Vol. 2" so that the picture only reads Dayton....and the rest is just the sunset, where the words would be. Does anyone know the best way to do this or can help out? I've come up with nothing so far. Thanks for any help or input.

Dayton: "Downtown's just fine."
I just HAVE to share this story with you. Back when Rhine was running for mayor the first time, I was working at Mead. Then CEO Jerry Tatar asked some of us to meet with Rhine to discuss what her plan was for Dayton etc. (also I worked with a women who was running for a spot on the dayton school board) A call was placed to Rhine Mclin to set up a time and place to meet, in which she was told, that we could book a conference room in the Mead tower to have our meeting. Her response (are you ready for this???) "Where's the Mead tower?" No, I'm not kidding, though I wish I was

Dayton: "Downtown's just fine."
What has rhine mclin done??? I sure as hell don't see her donating money or trying to improve the city she runs? Shouldn't the above be enough? At least he's vocal and an advocate of the city and the downtown area... I sure hope you don't think she is taking the city and downtown area in a positive direction!!??!

Dayton: "Downtown's just fine."
yet he's still doing more than Rhine Mclin.....

Dayton: "Downtown's just fine."
Side note....I think Dr. Schuster should run for mayor of Dayton, I think he'd be leaps and bounds better than Mclin A Q&A WITH DR. BENJAMIN SCHUSTER What are downtown Dayton's problems? Who will step up to solve them? By Jeff Bruce Dayton Daily News Editor Sunday, September 10, 2006 DAYTON — The future of downtown Dayton is a popular topic of conversation. But when it comes to putting his money where his mouth is, few have done more than Dr. Benjamin Schuster, who, with his wife Marian, spearheaded the fundraising for the performing arts center that bears their name, then followed that by relocating their home there. From his perch atop Performance Place, Dr. Schuster not only has a bird's-eye view of the city, his three years living downtown have given him a unique perspective on the challenges the central city faces. Beavercreek: The Greene Town Center
High-end clothing and accessory brands available at Von Maur include Kate Spade, Burberry, Bugatchi, Cutter & Buck, Joseph Abboud, David Yurman, Lagos, Tommy Bahama, St. Croix, Garfield & Marks, and Daymor. Young brands include Juicy Couture, Lucky, Lacoste, 7 for all Mankind and AG denim. This is definitely a nice addition and a good step towards better retail tenants at The Greene, but come on....still no pottery barn???

Cincinnati: West Chester - Ikea Coming to Union Centre
Ah yes, and the Cin-Day area takes another step towards becoming one. Funny, both areas, are covering this story and expressing how this is going to be great for their respectives areas, though neither cincy or dayton mention each other in their articles.....which is ironic, b/c I think there would be NO Ikea in West Chester without the other one's metro population. Cincy by itself probably wouldn't draw Ikea....Dayton by itself definitely wouldn't, but you put the 2 together and WOW....now you have the makings for the ideal place to put such a store...it's too bad the 2 cities can't figure that out, market the area as such and lure more retail and businesses to the area... :|

Walnut Hills Mega-Thread
great pics... and I LOVE tanks....I go there every weekend by myself for breakfast and take in a good book while waiting for my food. It's kinda like my Cheers...everyone there knows my name and vice versa. It's kinda red-necky....but also heavily UD dominated as well. Overall, it's a mix of people. They serve really good food for a bar...and yes, you can in fact drink your way around the world at Tanks....I think it's something like 63 beers?

From the The Greene's website...an updated list of tenants. Dayton: "Downtown's just fine."
Hopefully Rhine McLine will drink herself into a coma before she destroys this city.... KeyBank ponders move from downtown Dayton Business Journal - July 28, 2006by Suzelle TemperoDBJ Staff Report Add KeyBank to the long list of Dayton businesses reevaluating their downtown locations. KeyBank tallies about 80 years on Main Street but is considering a number of options for its 134,000-square-foot Dayton-region headquarters, including relocating the bulk of its employees to another location in the city. About 200 of its 400 local employees work in a call center, and that business does not need to be located in the downtown core, executives said. KeyBank's lease in the KeyBank building -- which houses the downtown branch, the corporate offices and the call center-- is set to expire in 2008. http://dayton.bizjournals.com/dayton/stories/2006/07/31/story5.html

Dayton: NCR
okay everyone....let's all just take a deep breath and relax. As of now, dayton is not losing NCR and it's not being moved to Atlanta. I sat through the Q2 meeting with Nuti today and nothing was even touched on of this magnitude. It's business as usual. The only thing that irks me, is that Nuti will NOT move dayton and in fact got his contract re-written as of yesterday, that he did not have to relocate. He will continue to commute between his home in NY and office in Dayton.

Dayton: NCR
AH yes....we have been hearing this rumor since the beginning of 2006, though it would be a really hard task for Hurd to pull off. He REALLY wants Terdata (as this is the most profitable division of NCR) I think he has even tried to upstart a similar division at HP, but Teradata is untouched in what they do....they are highly succesful and profitable, and everyone else in their market (IBM) is playing catch-up. Will this deal go through? I'd be more inclined to say no, it doesn't make sense for Hurd or HP...as they will have to acquire all of NCR, which I think would result in more aggrevastion than good. This has been discussed on NCR yahoo message board, and here's what someone else had to say about the rumor: This speculation has been floating around since January. Teradata may be what Hurd desires but other parts of NCR represent a poison pill to the deal. Teradata, WCS and perhaps FSD could be integrated into H-P. Retail could be sold to another Point of sale vendor such as IBM or Fujitsu but that would take time. Systemedia would be the albatross around Hurd's neck. I'm not sure if there would be a viable buyer for that unit. The effort taken with integrating FSD, Tera and WCS into the HP fold combined with the efforts to sell Systemedia and Retail would consume considerable resources and take Hurd's focus away from having HP refine its execution efforts.

Dayton: NCR
I've talked to quite a few people at work about this and though there may be some bias on our parts (we don't want to lose our jobs or move),we think this is just a rumor. NCR has been all about cost cutting lately and this move would not make sense, as everything has now been consolidated in Dayton, while selling everything else off. Also, the building we are in now on Patterson, is owned outright by NCR. If NCR were to move to Atlanta, they would have to fork out more $$$ to build a new building or to lease a new spot. The current Peachtree location in Atlanta is about a third of what WHQ is now. Also, spending more $$ right now is a big no no in the NCR world. Also, with the price of living being considerably higher in Atlanta, they would again have to spend more money on hiring people to do the exact same job they can pay employees here less to do. All around it doesn't make sense, but hey what do I really know. They only thing I can think of, is perhaps they are trying to get the city of Dayton to cut them a sweet deal. Who really knows!!??! But sentiment around the office is that it's more rumor than fact...and trust me we are very use to the rumors! :-o

Dayton: NCR
WOW! This is news to me, and I work there! I know that within my division there is supposed to be a big announcement coming, but nothing of this sort....rumors have us cutting the sales force, closing a plant....etc. etc. I guess we'll find out soon enough, there is a meeting scheduled with Nuti on Thursday to go over Q2 results. Right now, I'm going to go with this is just another rumor, but then again, Nuti hasn't moved to Dayton yet and flies back and forth between his home in New York and working at WHQ in Dayton. Also, they have pretty much consolidated EVERYTHING in dayton at this point, which is what Hurd wanted to too. I think this was completed a couple months ago, so why they would then consider uprooting everything again doesn't make sense. I know that NCR does have a mid sized office in Atlanta. PS...I hope it's a rumor, or I'm going to be unemployed! :-(

Dayton: Oakwood: Photos - 7.8.06
ColDayman: I think I know exactly which house you are talking about, I completely stumbled upon it....and I think it is my favorite oakwood home. Everytime I take a walk or even go for a drive, I end up getting lost....almost like alice in wonderland. But, I also find a new house I hadn't seen before....so it's a win/win. Jeff: The Smartest person I know. I was actually trying to look up the history of Oakwood, but was having a bit of trouble. I've lived in Dayton all my life, but have only been in Oakwood the last 3, so I'm very excited to find little facts out about it. Do you know if the Olmstead Brothers develpoed/planned the entire city? My house is a little unique in that it's ony 1 of 4 in Oakwood that was constructed completely of steel. It was built in 1937 and I think still has the original tin roof. There is an ongoing tradition from the original owners to each respective owner, to pass on the original blueprints of the home. I have them right now in my closet, and I think it's a neat idea. I've thought of getting them copied and framing them....or even framing the originals. Hopefully I'll venture in the East side and get some pics....hopefully minus the police! But, even on the east side there are some gorgeous homes with a lot of great arcitecture to them....usually overlooked b/c of the west side homes. also, while on the west side, there is a HUGE mansion being constructed right now....I saw the frameworking up, so I can't wait to see it when it's done.

Ohio: 4 & 5 Star Restaurants
I know for a long time L'Auberge in Dayton was a 4 star restaurant. I heard they lost a star, but then got it back, so I don't really know if they are a 3 or a 4? But, it's an amazing restuarant. http://www.laubergedayton.com/

Dayton: Oakwood: Photos - 7.8.06
So, I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, but I finally got around to taking some pictures of the town in which I live (Oakwood) I’m not a great photographer and I admit this is my first attempt. In taking walks around my neighborhood, I have found Oakwood to be full of beautiful aesthetics and architecture. However, in the process of my photo tour today, I was reported to the Oakwood police as a suspicious person, and in fact got pulled over by the po-po. People of Oakwood; as a fellow resident, please lighten the hell up...not everyone out there is out to get you. The officer explained to me that the camera was raising suspicions and people thought I were casing their houses! I almost laughed out loud...so much for my civic duty. I wanted to take some more pics, but I didn't want to get thrown in the clink! Anyway, I hope you enjoy the pics!

NCAA Men's Basketball: General News & Discussion
Arena gets tourney games in '09, '10 Dayton athletic director Ted Kissell says selections show area has a great environment for college basketball. By Doug Harris Staff Writer DAYTON | Dayton athletic director Ted Kissell was in the midst of a round of golf with wife Deanna on Thursday — and not exactly pleased with his play — when a ringing cell phone brought news that would lift his mood. After learning the NCAA had selected UD to host first- and second-round games of the men's tournament in 2009 and a women's regional in 2010, Kissell felt as if he had holed a 30-foot double-breaker for birdie. "Frankly, I'm stunned," he said... www.daytondailynews.com

Dayton International Airport
OK...so my question is does anyone know or have an update on the new control tower they are suppose to build at DAY? I really hope it gets built, the renderings are beautiful...last I heard the project was on hold. So, any info would be great... City touts increased airport traffic By Timothy R. Gaffney Staff Writer DAYTON — City officials gathered at Dayton International Airport Thursday morning to tout an upturn in passenger traffic, expanded airline services and efforts to bring new business onto the airport. The number of passengers flying from Dayton was up 5.6 percent for the first five months this year over the same period last year, and May's traffic was up 11 percent over May 2005, acting airport director Harvey Wortham said.
