  1. yeah...country ole' louisville....they probably don't even know what an arena is.. ---------------------- Who is the new arena for? U-of-L? An NBA team? The University of Louisville Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams will be the primary tenants. Their needs are first and foremost in this process. It is doubtful that an NBA team would call this arena home, since most teams look for financial incentives to entice the team to relocate. However, we would not close the door on an NBA team as long as the University of Louisville had first choice on dates for the facility. What type of new events might this new arena complex attract? New major attractions could include NCAA first/second round basketball games, NCAA Regional games and even the SEC Tournament, both the Men’s and Women’s tournaments. Because of the NCAA “pod” system the University of Kentucky could play their NCAA Tournament games in the new arena, since it is not their home floor. Likewise, the Men’s SEC Basketball Tournament could be hosted there since it is not U-K’s home floor; saving the fans the drive to Nashville, Atlanta or Orlando to watch an SEC Tournament. The next SEC Men’s Tournament will be held in Nashville in Gaylord Arena in 2006. Gaylord Arena is not Vanderbilt’s home floor, but is in their home city. The arena complex will also likely attract NCAA Championship events in sports like wrestling or volleyball, family shows, conventions, concerts and possibly a minor league hockey team could decide to play in Freedom Hall – with new weekend dates opening up. http://www.arenaauthority.com/faq.htm
  2. well for sure the amount of renderings is getting boggling. shovels in the ground will be quite another story. the hateration from you is mind boggling as well....
  3. well....the bridges don't stop...this is the design for the new downtown louisville bridge downtown louisville's river front will be flooded with so much construction over the next 10 years, it wll be mind boggling.
  4. waterfront park extends all the way to the island past the third bridge....that third black bridge is going to be the pedestrian walkway to and from indiana.
  5. its a lot more than three blocks... i think its cool to ad that the other side of the river isn't doing so bad either....
  6. but the thing is...i'm not even a kentuckian lol...but i am in louisville a lot though.
  7. odder that you say that when i said it didnt compare and regardless equally had clevelands broad plan in there too...also, in the end i compared the 'vuhl waterfront park to dayton's discovery whoops i meant riverscape park, much more its peer so far. no, the rendering of waterfront park i posted have already been completed. the only thing left to finish is the pedestrian bridge i'm not sure what you are saying is in "fantasy" land riverparkplace is not even a part of waterfront park, thats a seperate private development. everything in that rendering is complete, except the "big four bridge" pedestrian walkway....and i'm sorry, but thats a little more than 3 blocks.....
  8. but here is a nother view of phase II of waterfront park....you have to understand that the park was completed in phases...the first phase is the phase that is closer to MP. phase two is still in walking distance...phase III is a little far...and riverparkplace will be a pretty good hike phase I PhaseII phase III UC
  9. oh, it goes from three blocks ...to miles away lol. people aren't that lazy anyway....the waterfront is connected to the belvedere, which is connected to the ali center which is connected to MP...if you've never been there, you have no idea what i'm talking about. waterfront park itsself has averaged 1.5 million people without riverparkplace...so that walk from here to there isn't really relavent......yet
  10. and back to the subject of visitors, i just read that waterfront park averages 1.5 million visitors per year...so there is your other 900,000 ;)
  11. three blocks? i don't think so. its 72+ acres....and with the addition of riverparkplace it will be even bigger its odd though....i thaught we weren't supposed to be comparing Louisville and New York City...
  12. as far as you know, indeed. be glad hudson river park in manhattan technically isn't complete yet - lol! nor the cleveland lakefront plan for that matter (hey, if you can post about renderings as if its a fact they will actually be built i can post about clev's waterfront plans too). read on and learn yourself: http://www.hudsonriverpark.org/development/index.htm http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/lakefront/cpc.html thats enough for now...dont make me drag the "new" coney island plans into this! so you're saying LWFP can't compete? its a pretty drastic change IMO
  13. well they wouldn't be doing it if they thaught the building wasn't going to be built...i know you think they are hillbilly, slow, powdunk kentuckians, but jeez...they aren't that stupid. thats a lot of money, and a lot of land to be wasting. and the article says that the developers are going to have major announcements within the coming months...trust me, its going up.
  14. well how about this tidbit...i am currently watching "modern marvels" on the history channel and the subject is he walt disney concert hall in Los Angeles.....did you guys know that the same construction managers that built the walt disney concert hall will be in charge of Museum plaza? just a bit of trivia type info lol...most of you probably don't care because after all it is "louisville" we are talking about and MP is "ugly"...but oh well... http://louisville.bizjournals.com/louisville/stories/2006/04/17/daily31.html oh and did i also mention that a new basketball arena will be finishing up around the same time MP will be getting finished? so not only will MP and the ALi center feed each other, but the new arena will also attract folks to MP. the arena has already been approved and construction will start soon that waterfront will be totally different in about 3 years why am i so excited?...well, because this is the tallest skyscraper under contruction in the Ohio Valley
  15. ahh...the internet, i forgot.
  16. well i did say millions.....but i meant over our lifetimes...not in one year...bozo lol
  17. Waterfront Park in downtown Louisville has been named one of the nation's top 10 urban parks by the Urban Land Institute. http://louisville.bizjournals.com/louisville/stories/2006/10/30/daily23.html?surround=lfn
  18. Just because you throw a park around something does not automatically mean that it is ped. friendly. Have you not seen the disgusting projects that were built all around this damn country, and people thought that because they torn down the old urban environment for taller bldgs...allowing for more parks...that it would solve all problems. We have since come to learn that this whole type of development sucks and is always poised for failure. as far as i know, louisville is one of the best in the country when it comes to building waterfront parks.....have you seen their waterfront lately? i think it has one just about every award.
  19. it brings about 100,000 a year so far, and the plaza isn't even complete yet.
  20. but i guess if you don't know how close the Ali Center and the base of MP will be, i could see how you would think it would be devoid of life....but the fact remains that the Ali Center and MP will feed each other millions of visiters...this is the Ali Center plaza which will sit right to the left of MP when finished
  21. no , this was just one of the sites i found :) http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&safe=off&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=louisville+skyline&spell=1
  22. Well, I guess my city is in the economic shitter, then, because we don't have any buildings over 13 stories tall. Back in 1977, Detroit opened the Renaissance Center. The building consisted of five towers, including the then-world's tallest hotel with 1400 rooms. Cost was $350 million (in 1977 dollars). Henry Ford II, who headed the project, hoped that construction of such a complex would demonstrate to the world that Detroit was ripe for new investment. The Ren Cen was a colossal failure, and lost money every year. The little street life Detroit had was sucked into the enormous vacuum of the isolated, internally-oriented complex. General Motors purchased the building around 1999 for its new world headquarters, at a then-cost of $75 million. what is in the ren center? is it a business structure, or does it include entertainment, lofts and condos? as far as MP goes this is the rundown of what will be in it -Contemporary Art Museum -condos -Lofts -300-room hotel -University of Louisville Fine Arts Graduate Program -microbrewer distilerry -21 story public plaza -food market and more I don't know...i've been to detroit and the ren center didn't seem like it had those types of attractions in it...but i may be wrong.....but it just looks like MP will have much more life. Museum plaza will even have a pretty large park outside, and not to mention the Ali Center park that will be finished soon.
  23. well thats how i found this site...lookin for pictures of louisville in google...so nanny nanny boo boo....:)
  24. what if someone wants to purchase a louisville skyline shot with MP in it? seems like you should put the legitamcy of your site over your bias towards a building :whip: :whip:
