Cincinnati: Downtown: Development and News
I don't see it being that greyhound wouldn't be allowed in the RTC due to cultural reasons or residentials complaints, but that I don't see greyhound as a company wanting to pay for the cost to lease the space rather than go build a station where property is cheaper.

Who's fighting? I'm saying something like all the homeowners on Fairview Ave put up their own signs and permits on their car to discourage nonresidents from parking there. Would the people visiting be keying and smashing up cars?

I've always wondered: If the property owners did some tactical urbanism and put up signs and made their own adhoc residential parking permit system, would this give enough proof of concept to sway the city to implement it? I'd imagine that if you put up the signage and have cars that show that they have permits, it would change on street to option A rather quickly.

I think it's also silly that we don't see more parking garages being built in CUF. I think something like the findlay market garage would do amazing if placed around the campus.

So the Gateway Lofts planned on McMillian looks like it's not doing too hot community wise or planning wise. I'm honestly shocked that they don't want to have any retail space on the bottom floor due "market conditions". I don't know what market they're looking at but I'd imagine adding all that residential right there would increase demand. On another note, I don't understand why there's such a pushback on developments being tall and dense in the CUF area from "prominent" landlords. Are they upset that they are/were unable to get this level of density or height? I mean calhoun hall is a block away from this site and its 14 stories tall and was built across the street from fast food places..

Going through the HCB packet, there's an update on the findlay market garage. It's on page 99. Looks pretty like it was better than what we saw previously, in my opinion.

If one of the partner or tenants in the innovation corridor ends up having workers that complain about walkability, biking, or even transit, I'd imagine UC will do something then.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Convention Center / Hotel
I wonder how much (or how many times over) the convention center expansion/hotel could be paid for instead of spending it on the stadium.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Convention Center / Hotel
Is there going to be any public input on the lease renewal and stadium renovation? I didn't know it was finalized.

Typically you only want one main entrance to the institutional buildings so that you don't have to double up on all the security hardware and reception desk equipment. The door hardware for the main entrance adds up quickly, I remember it being a few thousand but it's probably more now. The cost goes up a fair bit when you work with historical elements since they aren't typically made to handle all of the hardware. Best case scenario they remove the weird basement entrance and reno the historical one. I think we'll see a similar design to how Probasco Auditorium ended up. Kind of worried about this historical house being used like that. I worry being used as a incubator/startup house may end up causing it damage. I don't see them as being very focused on building preservation either..

Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
VMT projections always seem wild in my opinion. Every projection ends up with the area that it looks at becoming the next New York City within a few decades.

No more Brighton Approach Bridge? I think it’s a nice looking bridge but I don’t think it’s useful anymore.

Hopefully an increase in sidewalk and green space will help get more pedestrian traffic in that area. It's so desolate in that aspect.

I'm torn on this. It increases density but doesn't get rid of parking requirements. Infract, wouldn't this cause an increase in parking areas since there's more dwelling units per building?

$20 million dollars? Are they planning on airlifting marble fountains from Italy or something? Unless there's traffic calming included in that, I don't think any plaza or fountain on central parkway would be a tourist destination outside of sharing images of it. Any gathering area near a road eventually becomes a hotspot for attention seeking loud vehicles and reckless drivers sadly.

So about four years for that whole area to be completed? I bet $50 to charity that they miss that schedule.

Cincinnati: University of Cincinnati: Development and News
I have a feeling this project is going to end up taking way too long. They haven't even started any site work on their next phase. Which will, estimating here, take 5 years to build. Give another 2 years buffer on the final phase and then maybe 8 to 10 years to build.. Honestly if the deacon site gets completed within 25 years I'll be surprised. Wouldn't be surprised if that whole phase gets scrapped due civil engineering problems since they infilled the site with building rubble. I think financing for deacon is rough state with how expensive construction materials go. So I'd imagine that's getting pushed out. I have a feeling that we'll see a lot of infill of empty lots around the area, as well as replacing the high demand area's low quality or abandoned buildings with midrises before high rises.
-
Cincinnati: University of Cincinnati: Development and News
I think there will be a big uptick in midrises around campus with mixed uses. I also see the push for more hotels to dramatically increase. There's already a massive shortage in the area. My question is how soon will we see something beyond the generic 1+5? I think demand is starting to be enough to push out of that space. UC would be more interested in connecting up their off campus "Innovation Corridor" to main campus rather than CBD. On a realistic level, I can see them increasing their bus fleet to have their own little bus metro going through that area.

UC put out some RFQs for some smaller projects: University Pavilion renovations for improved branded experience to visitors ($1.75M): Stratford Heights landscape changes ($1M): Varsity way landscaping ($1.1M): Also, I noticed they added more renderings to the construction site signage at Calhoun showing the lobby and rec area. I can't seem to find them anywhere online, par for this project for some reason. This is overshadowed, in my opinion, that they had signage indicating that the YMCA next to Calhoun Hall is getting reno'd as well into an new alumni center.

Such a massive and impressive building to be abandoned. I do think it's difficult to figure what to do with it though. I haven't heard any proposals that gained any traction.

Cincinnati: Mt. Auburn: Development and News
Well that is a pleasant surprise. Wish it had more character or uniqueness, but I know that's not in the finances for uptown in this area. I wonder where UC is going to put that new training facility now though..

Middletown: Hollywoodland
I'm so confused as to why the city even is giving this developer attention. I'm getting so much dejavu from the monorail episode it's scary. On that note, they should've gone to Covington and suggested it be on the IRS site. I bet they would start site work the next week.

Newport, KY: Ovation
Lower floors with residential on top of them for the towers. I'd imagine they're running into delays or cost increases material wise for the towers. As for if it's condos or apartments, I think apartments make more sense. I'm sure they don't want to have to wait till the units are filled to pass the buildings off to a management company.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
With how straight and bland I71 is I kind of prefer going a longer route just to have some scenery. Turning it into a train ride where I could be productive and relaxed would be life changing.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
I just experienced this on my trip to DC. I thought having light rail would be something nice. Turns out it's even better than I could imagined. It makes me way more sad about Cincinnati's attempts at getting it. I would do just about anything to have the convenience of sitting on a train for a few hours to get from Cincinnati to Cleveland rather than have to bore myself crazy driving 4 hours. I make this drive back and forth nearly 3 times a month and it's probably one of the worst drives I've ever done.
