  1. Miami’s historical buildings around their quad look so beautiful. I wish all the new construction stopped their weird attempts at it and always ending up like a suburban office building. Not sure what other direction they would be able to go since they’re known for their campus looking it does.
  2. I feel that although the shell station is bad. I think the annoyances from vehicles is worse. I don’t know if there’s a term for what I’m trying to describe broadly, but it’s the motorcycles redlining, atvs, dirt bikes, and cars with deafening external speakers. I don’t know how many times I’ve been walking or driving in Cincinnati and had plug my ears or even go a different route. Just to avoid damaging my ears or avoid hitting someone on a dirt bike running through lights.
  3. Crane going up at Calhoun hall. Going to be a bit wild having all these cranes around campus (Calhoun, The District, and Clifton court building)
  4. If I recall correctly, there’s one person or an LLC that owns these shell franchises around Cincinnati. They turn a blind eye to all the illegal activities that go on at the stations.
  5. Excited to see this. Hopefully, this brings some exciting projects that now that they don't half the property as a parking lot.
  6. Calhoun Hall renovations are underway. They've dug up the area around the stairs net to it and the lower basement levels are now exposed on the west side of the building. Also the facade is getting removed. Photos taken 6/5/21
  7. I agree on the vinyl ruining the look. The whole rear of the building is vinyl, and with the vinyl windows that they used throughout, really cheapens the building. I wonder if UC is going to gobble up the units since Calhoun Hall is being renovated. I don't understand a fear of oversaturation on Short Vine, except maybe that there's too many vape/smoke shops.
  8. Uptown's apartments are finishing. Feels silly that they don't have anything at street level though. Does anyone know if the new construction on the corner next to Kroger will?
  9. Went to the AMC theater a couple times during the renovations. The interior of the mall has much better layout and usage than before. Although the trendy furniture that they put in the atrium area seems like a short-sighted idea since people tend to be gross. The exterior renovations look nice for the modern feel. Although it lacks originality that it had before. It would be nice if they had the unique facades for each storefront that Eaton Town Center has.
  10. I know someone who was an engineer on the streetcar project. They have everything already designed for using Vine Street. You can even see the switches and stubs of track for the addition on Findlay and West Elder.
  11. Glad to see some love being given to that area. Excited that they're going to keep adding more group study rooms to buildings since study space is becoming a premium on campus.
  12. The bridge is to connect campus way to the building instead of having a crazy stairway and ramp system. From my little site visit and the renders, I think this is what the outcome is. I
  13. Visited campus for the first time in forever. Here's two panos of the new library plaza. The modular buildings near Clifton Ave and Clifton Court are being demolished. The area is fenced off and it appears that they're putting in new utility lines for the new construction.
  14. Looks like they found some interesting stuff under the drop ceilings. Link
  15. I hope this isn't the start of carew beginning to end up like plaza hotel.
  16. Looks pretty good for $658 in OTR. The kitchen looks a bit sad, but I kinda expect that at such a low rent. Though, I love seeing split and ductless systems starting to be used more often in residential.
  17. What happened to all the outrage over parking spots? /s Wonder if we'll see these spread into downtown. Would help give the streets a more lively feeling outside of building hours.
  18. Are they that far behind schedule?
  19. Was driving down Central and saw that were clearing up the overgrowth around these buildings. Does anyone know of any plans to redevelop these buildings?
  20. Are we leading down the path of the WWI era anti-german hysteria where every street with a hint of german was renamed to something more American? Also, I wonder in the future if/when the Lindner family's skeletons fall out of the closet, will the city try to scrub their name off of half the city?
  21. Every student I've met describes the same conditions @jmecklenborg states and they do care. No one wants to live in a house where every possible room besides the kitchen and bathroom have been converted into some janky bedroom. I'm very sure that the city and UC care. The only people that don't care are slumlords exploiting students. The current landlords gained a majority of the properties during the recession and they were falling apart then. They're still falling part now, but now worth double the amount. Unless there becomes a financial incentive to start rehabing properties, I don't see it happening since they're in such poor condition. I think you'll see the more of the renovations you describe closer to the `Uptown Innovation Corridor` near I75.
  22. The properties around UC really need renovation or rehabs. So many of the rentals students end up with are full of life safety and building code violations. It's rough finding somewhere to live near campus. Landlords deem something such as more than one receptacle per room, kitchen vent hoods, or even a fire extinguisher as a frivolous luxury unless you're paying over $1,000 a month per person. I've been planning to move out towards clifton or northside and commuting instead of spending forever finding somewhere near campus.
  23. The Deaconess is completely gone now, the office building has been completely demolished. This was taken 12/3: The DAAP sculpture building is coming along nicely. Taken 12/2:
  24. Taken 12/4. Hopefully they'll have the cladding finished before it starts snowing.
