It varied throughout, but I'd say 8-15 stories.

From what I saw of the model, it will be like nothing else ever built in this city. That's a good thing.

Westlake Reed Leskoski Architects has a proposal for this area in their offices. The model is pretty interesting. They see the middle of the block being infiltrated with public space from the NW, and program blending in and out of that space from what I could tell. Also, part of the proposal cantilevers over to the NW corner of E14th and Carnegie, creating a portal into the city when coming from the south. I'm not sure if they have been in talks with Stark or if the proposal is totally speculative at this point. We'll see I guess.

    What's the project?

    Steelyard Commons... it's fantastic.
  6. When they say that Stark will be replicating his "suburban lifestyle center concept" it makes me ill. How many articles will they force that line into?
  7. That thing near Alcoa looks freaking sweet.
  8. Flats Property Owners Lose Eminent Domain Appeal POSTED: 12:45 pm EST February 5, 2007 UPDATED: 12:59 pm EST February 5, 2007 CLEVELAND -- There's a new development in the ongoing battle over property in the Flats. Thirteen owners of bars, restaurants and parking lots have lost another appeal to stop the demolition. On Monday, city officials said no to stopping eminent domain on the Flat's east bank. Cuyahoga County Port Authority and builder Scott Wolstein plan to redevelop the area but remaining business owners said they're not being treated fairly and are not getting fair offers for their businesses.
  9. Talked to a couple of bartenders at Bier Markt this weekend and they informed me that the gallery space within the bar will be turned into a restaurant run by an outside investor. They'll serve Bier Markt's beer, and patrons could eat in the restaurant or in the bar. Also, the basement will be opened up to the public. Hopefully getting DJ's to spin down there. Good news all around for Bier Markt and the W25th scene.

L-C was built with a lower level for streetcar use, but was never utilized for such. The fiber optic system connecting the entire country is now routed in a 4' diameter pipe on this part of the bridge. You can see it if you know what to look for.
  11. Idiotic County Commissioners plan to waste $20 million extra to tear down one of the most interesting buildings in the city to fulfill their massive egomaniacal characters with a new structure that is poorly designed to say the least.

Why would they discuss architecture? It's obvious it was never even a consideration. One of my many beefs with this development.

As I was driving back to Ohio City from the snow belt last night, I heard an ad on the radio for Stonebridge. Downtown development hitting the airwaves.
  14. On the DAS website they mentioned construction of an "in house banking center" for National City Bank in the West Side Market. What's up with that?
  15. World-class signage? Not seeing it in this photo.
  16. It wasn't the Scarvelli land, the sketch wrapped all the way around Scranton Penninsula.
  17. It was a schematic design sketch (poorly done I might add) that showed residential around the edges of the river, and then some suburbanesque industrial building near the underside of the Lorain Carnegie. Hopefully this in no way represents what is actually built, but at the very least FC comissioned us to do it and they are thinking about what can be done there.
  18. That was me learing over drawings here at my place of employment. Haven't seen anything since. Another thing I've seen over the last few months is a horribly generic plan of a possible development on Scranton Penninsula for Forest City. Could that be something? I don't know, but I'm hoping for the Public Sqaure lot getting utilized as well.
  19. I have no stats to back this up, but I think the majority of employees in many industries would rather be in a downtown work environment. Looks like employers are finally starting to take that into consideration when looking to open or relocate their business. I personally would quit my current job if they decided to move to the suburbs.
  20. If anything, that piece of shite in the upper right of that photo hould be refaced or torn down.

You're right, Joshua Prince-Ramus, a former designer from Koolhaas's firm OMA did it. My bad. It's going to be an incredible project. I'm jealous. http://www.ted.com/tedtalks/tedtalksplayer.cfm?key=j_prince_ramus
  22. After reading the article on Cleveland Memory Project, I guess the question I have to ask all of you is; were the Van Sweringens and the public correct in their vote to have the Union Terminal at Public Square? What would have happened if it were placed at the northern terminus of the Mall? Would the city be better off today had it been at the lakefront location? If it were originally placed on the lakefront, the city would have an entirely different feel and reference point to it. I think it would have made us deal with lakefront access long ago. What would Euclid Avenue have been in the 40's, 50's, and 60's if the station wasn't at its west end? What would Public Square look like today? Just an extension of the Warehouse District? Hotel Cleveland would certainly look odd without the Terminal Tower there. Riverfront access at collision bend? Rapid service throughout the city would be totally different, probably utilizing the Lakewood tracks. The Terminal Tower wouldn't look the same. Would it be worth it to not have it if we had a currently utilized passenger station on the Lakefront instead of the Amshack? So many questions, and not much of an opportunity for answers. I guess what I'm saying is that our city would be completly different. For better or worse. What do you think?
  23. ...the new passenger facilities are imperatively needed by the New York Central Lines because of the growth of population of Cleveland and because the present station is...
  24. Why can't a nightclub be within 500' of another one as stated in the zoning laws? Guess the city doesn;t want a concentration of activity...
  25. Most of downtown's decline was definitely due to the loss of population (and density) both in the city and downtown, as suburban sprawl accelerated in the 1980s. Downtown's population has been growing for 20 years. The city population has been dropping though if that's what you were trying to get across.
