Another reason why OSU is so big up here in Cleveland lately is because 9 of the 22 starters on the team are from Cleveland. And Kent State University, leading the state in Architecture and Fashion. Man that really sucks. Co-ops at UC, what a waste of time.

The exterior of the building has been illuminated from the second floor up. Really brightens up the square. No photos, but I will have some from the Public Square lighting on saturday night from the top of the building.
  3. Well I guess if you have no attachment to it lets just tear it down. You sound like Tim Hagan.
  4. I guess they probably feel like they'd die from a 75 feet fall, so another 633 feet doesn't really make a difference. I beg to differ though...
  5. There seems to be a metallic surface peeking out from the scaffolding at the very top of the Terminal Tower this morning...
  6. As much as a Forest City hater as I've been in the past, here comes some good news about the Terminal Tower restoration. kjmay had contact with the building manager of the Tower last week and here is a summary of what was said. *The Terminal Tower should be relit by the end of this month or the beginning of next. It will be a new and improved lighting scheme (LED fixtures), and should look interesting with the scaffolding until it is removed in a few years. *Every mortar joint in the upper floors will be repointed, accounting for the 5 year time frame of restoration. *The gold cupola on the top of the Tower is a match of the original color taken from existing paint chips which were found at the beginning of the restoration. *All satelite dishes, antennas, and other assemblies other than the flag pole at the top will be removed permanently. Looks like FC is doing this the right way, and may be a sign of their hopefully growing attitude about city. We'll see what happens, but this is good news.
  7. Thank you DaninDC. Nobody else seems to see a problem with this.
  8. I'm also concerned about TC, and I'm not sure I agree Tower City is even doing "OK." There's a Dollar Store, Wig Shop, air brush shirt store and plenty of empty storefronts on the lower level. Unfortunately the reality of it is that it's retailers are maybe a step above Randall Park Mall. We're dependent on Stark and grass roots types getting us some retail options. Forest City seems to accept taking TC as a loss. If the convention center thing falls through, I would also be worried about FC's presence in Cleveland as a whole, not that they've done much for us besides the jobs they have in the Terminal Tower (nothing to look past I guess).
  9. I just told you why I look at the negative mtc. I didn't "skirt" the question, it's right there. With several facts as well. I don't know what else to tell you. If this was designed to be integrated with an existing dense urban fabric in Central I'd be fine with this, but it's an office park off Chagrin Boulevard, it engages nothing but a vague concept of a building on the nowhere near it.
  10. I bring up the negatives because I expect the best for this city, and I do not accept ill advised plans using tax payer dollars, we've been doing this for way too long. A strong urban core needs to be created for surrounding neighborhoods to thrive. Marooning projects that have no connection to the rest of the city (like the Rock Hall's lakefront location) do nothing to add to the density cities need, to be successful. I love this city, and I want developments like this to happen, but I want them to be thoughtfully researched to make them the most successful projects that they can be. We are past the point of just being happy that these things are being built.
  11. Putting the library at Tri-C, in the middle of the absolute suburban-type wasteland that is the area south of downtown is yet another missed opportunity to place program in the central city. What tourist is going to walk/taxi/drive to this spot. I have a hard time imagining how I will get there and I've lived in Cleveland my whole life. What a waste. And let's not even start to talk about the design of this thing. Mimicing a poorly designed building that is a mile and a half away is a joke. Who is the architect on this thing, and who is deciding where things like this are placed? Wouldn't this do a whole lot more urbanistically if it was built, say, on Prospect and E4th, or maybe next to the City Club on Euclid, or in the empty storefronts in the 515 garage on Euclid, or maybe the first floor of the May Company Building???? I just don't get it.

MVRDV was mentioned a few months ago about CIA's addition at the Ford Building on Euclid Avenue.

Thanks for the tip... you won't have to worry about that for very long as far as this building is concerned...

Has anyone noticed that the huge warehouse across from Gallucci's at E63rd (I think) is being torn down? WHAT THE F?!?!?!?!? I just am at a total loss as to why this f'ing city allows these types of buildings to be f'ing torn down! Destroying yet another incredible building that is just in the distance of the photo below. All but 2 of the buildings from this incredible scene at E55th and Euclid remains. I'm wondering when those will come down. It's only a matter of time in this city. I just don't know what to say anymore. Haven't they realized that tearing down old, maybe vacant, structures and leaving a blank desolate piece of shit empty parcel is not urban renewal? Really, why did this building have to come down. It was full of graffitti and broken windows, but I'm sure the structure was sound. F!
  15. No problem buddy.
  16. What's HBIC?
  17. Jesus, just go down to the store on W9th and check out what Brigade/Sweet Life has. The guys that own the place are local fashion designers who have their own clothing line (Wrath/Arcane), have always been more than accomidating if you actually visit the store, and are trying to do they're thing in Cleveland which is a lot more than many people can say. You probably live less than a five minute bus ride from there O.C.ers and Tremonsters. Is this site turning into lazy fatass suburbanohio.com or what? Get off the internet and go down there.
  18. One word: Fazio's. I used to go to the one on E260th with my parents as a kid. And let's not forget Pic-n-Pay. The one on Lakeshore Boulevard had these access panels on the floor in front of the produce section that made such a cool noise when you pushed a cart over them. It was the highlight of a 7 year old's day.
  19. The current CC site has zero spinoff possibilities and a transit station built for passenger rail is a pipe dream at best for the Civic Center area. I'm with TC even though I have a big problem with FC. Building up a node of urban density at Public Square, not the lakefront, is absolutely crucial for the health of Cleveland and the. The lakefront will ideally just develop on its own, (extension of Stark's plan perhaps).
  20. Shit, you all seem a little too pissed that there is retail opening up downtown. If you don't like that kind of store, don't go to it. Better a store that isn't anywhere else in the area, than a porn store or empty storefront. I'm surprised by your reaction.
  21. People really don't understand what a great city we live in, and I'm just about to leave work early to listen to Stark's vision to make it even better.
  22. StrapHanger, I'm with you 100%.
  23. It's pretty hard for office workers to go shopping when they are, um, working. It is important, but it isn't the most important factor. It's a mix between getting enough residents and a well conceived retail development together and support it with the said residential base. Pretty sure why we are all excited about Stark's plan; it is the mixure of the two that will make this development work (hopefully).
  24. Great, more "signature" pink granite striping cladding a parking garage....
  25. Myself and some coworkers will be getting out early to check out the forum. Should be interesting.
