  1. Why? Large, East-Coast investment entity in a city that seemingly does not get much attention from either? Not sure how you didn't figure that out.
  2. Cleveland has had New Year's events in the past. I specifically remember 1997, the bicentennial year. Also, there's a beer garden at the event this evening, not to mention the awesome Ontario Street Cafe or a flask if a heavier drink is needed...
  3. EIFS is a bottom of the barrel material typical of low grade suburban strip malls. I am mystified at its proposed use for any significant project in a Downtown locale.
  4. One of the more intriguing things about a visit there is seeing the 24"x36"map the museum has setup that allows visitors to put a pin where they are from. The crowded pins literally span the entire globe (non-USA countries are represented with their flag, no map), and apparently they have had to clear the map twice already this holiday season as of 2 weeks ago. It's really quite a sight.
  5. I lived in the Euclid Block for a year and while it's a bit loud on both the E4th and Euclid Ave sides, that's just the reality of city living. I think they're the newest units on E4th so they're decent. Wood floors, big windows. I enjoyed the time there.
  6. I don't think anyone is trotting around saying "we've got the tallest hotel in the state" to emote pride in their City. If it is the tallest in the state, great. But if not, who cares?
  7. Unlike the previous iterations in that location the food was quite good when I was there a couple months ago.
  8. MayDay, that first photo is great. Always like when the Terminal Tower is perpendicular from a shot.
  9. In the spirit of this being a government project, compromise! Put the tower in the middle of the podium! It preserves the vista toward the courthouse yet doesn't put a sheer, 31-story cliff on the mall. The further you get away from the Justice Center, the less it's in the view of guests and the more the lake comes into view. While a bit longer in the north-south dimension, is a 31-storey cliff really that much worse than a 57 storey one? Personally I could care less about the Burnham Plan, and the only way to really make the proportions of it work are to put tall buildings along its perimeter. If the plan were rotated 180 degrees the effect would be much like 200 Public Square in relation to the square. I think we'd all agree that the old Williamson Building, with its primary mass going straight up from the property line, was a more appropriate approach to that site.
  10. "Boiler plate modernism," X, I couldn't agree with you more. This isn't surprising considering their portfolio of work. The relationship they're trying to get with the diagonal line across the facade to mimic the slope of Mall B is such a lame reach among many other issues.
  11. Yikes Cooper Carry. Not sure where to start here...
  12. That image of the statue straddling the river is pretty sweet though.
  13. I think people need to think outside the box and invent another term for "outside the box."
  14. This is a terrible plan, and gives local architects a bad rap, but I think we can all agree that this has zero chance of implementation.
  15. There are A LOT of things going on behind the scenes on Duck Island these days. And technically this is considered Tremont...
  16. That's got to be one of the worst logos around.
  17. That is a really nice piece of work, aesthetically. A little intimidating, but considering what it is that's not entirely a bad thing. Hopefully the functionality is just as good. Funny...
  18. Looks like the same house built on West 11th in Tremont. Nothing interesting but development keeps marching west, good stuff.
  19. Tremont is such a strange area in many ways from a layout standpoint, its alleys and rear houses are certainly a large part of that.
  20. A Pecha Kucha was held in that courtyard about 4 years ago which drew about 400 people. Pretty cool space.
  21. Is that a cruise ship in the photo on the 1st link?
  22. Great, can't wait to see more Chilli's, Steak and Shakes, and gas stations along the interstate.
  23. Nice. We need a proper hotel lounge in this town, hopefully between this and the Hilton we'll get a couple.
  24. For Beachland to say the construction is the only result of their attendance lag is irresponsible. The street is a real mess and I don't see why the Beachland wouldn't also be hurt like the other businesses across the board. I don't know, if you're going to a show, you go to a show if there's road construction or not. Does that really stop someone from going?
  25. Wow KJP, that old photo is just great. Too bad there's not a single building east of the bridge left. If the buildings that were there up to the 1990's could have just survived another 10 years I think this would be a thriving neighborhood node of historically repurposed and new buildings. A real loss.
