I was in LA a couple years ago, and I imagine 1970's Prospect Avenue in Cleveland felt like Broadway in downtown LA, except with mostly smaller buildings. All those signs, so ridiculous...

City is nice and piled up. Nice pics.
  6. The Allen is not being demolished on the interior. All new construction is self contained and touches the existing historic interior finishes very minimally. Basically, if this new construction needed to be torn down in 50 years it could be done, and the old theatre could be restored to it's former configuration.
  7. That open-air shopping makes sense for a place like Seattle. Lyndhurst, on the edge of the snow belt, not so much Because Seattle has great weather...
  8. The intersection of Dodge Court and East 15th is at the bottom right, and this view is looking west/sw. The alley at the far left must be maintained for access to the rear of the Bulkley Building and shipping and receiving for the Allen addition. The white building is sitting where there is currently a parking lot and the pedestrian "tube" overhead.
  9. New rendering for Allen Theatre Addition from Landmarks... http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/landmark/agenda/photo/08262010/index.php
  10. Amazing considering that show is garbage.
  11. It's a she who owns Room Service for the record.
  12. So it doesn't have a draw for you on any level but you'll be here for a Browns game... Akron: "Cleveland, what do you think of me." Cleveland: "I don't think of you. Cincinatti either." I just couldn't resist.
  13. I for one would be concerned about having a private entity having control of arguably the city's finest asset.
  14. When has county corruption made Cleveland a miserable place to live?
  15. I'm sure they're fine individuals, but they clearly can't design themselves out of a box.
  16. Does Forest City not see the advantage of getting an extra 1,500 people into their mall over a weekend, spending money on food, retail, etc? Seems like a no brainer to keep this thing open every weekend.
  17. Not sure why they wouldn't build a 4 story building and leave the remainder of the land for future development. Design is of course a complete disaster, offering the worst the suburbs have to offer. I'd really rather have an empty lot than allow this to set the precedent for future development in this area. Yet another sad trade: formly a high density, mixed use, transit dependent urban neighborhood for low density, insert cornice here architecture, "high tech" developement. We should be expecting more.
  18. They currently charge $5, and assume 600 people per day, that's $3,000. Not a bad bit of money I would think.
  19. Along with the disappearance of the area around E55th and Euclid Ave, this is the most disappointing and horrific desecration of this city in my opinion.
  20. Actually, on the topic of encouraging urban infill on vacant land, we have one of the more aggressive city land bank organizations in the country. And as for density, that is one of the most disappointing parts of Cleveland. Many of the mid sized apartment buildings that were in the city have been torn down. At one point in Hough, there was a square mile that boasted 76,000 people. Now it's probably around 10,000. Personally I think there is a buzz in the city lately, and it seems more positive. I almost think with the Lebron thing finally ending, we have put it behind us and are enjoying our city. Also a lot of up coming projects downtown, so when you come back it will be even more interesting. I have a condo for sale if you're looking for a Cleveland summer home. Oh yeah, the red line is the shite!
  21. You must have never been to Italy...
  22. WRL is working on the design of the retail space. It will be names you've heard before with Cleveland retail... not a bad thing in this case.
  23. For those that are saying these peopleare not to be thinking about the design of this, "Their role is really to focus on appropriate design and look at funding opportunities, but not by going to the city or the county," said Ken Silliman, the mayor's chief of staff. There isn't a single person on this panel that has any credentials or experience in organizing the design, planning, and implimentation of a large urban space. I really expect nothing from this panel.
  24. Why doesn't everyone that complains about Melt just sit down (or stand I guess) and drink a beer while they wait? It shouldn't be a surprise that you're waiting for an hour anymore.
