  1. Hey yanni, nothing like some Guyz Pizza to wash down 26 beers at 3am on a thursday night in kent, egh?
  2. Forbes ranks as my #1 worst publication, based on my opnion. I'm disappointed in myself for even commenting on this.
  3. That last picture is pretty ridiculous.
  4. It's a shame all the strip clubs in this town are all in generic stripmall-like buildings. I really wouldn't have a problem with all the neon and gaudy crap if it became part of the street. I wouldn't mind seeing one on E4th honestly (how many people are going to jump me for this one).
  5. I have to say that the Wyse space may be one of the worst interior fitouts I've ever seen, and as 327 said, adds no street level activity at all. They could have done this in any suburban office park if they wanted to totally barricade themselves from the street. It's all well and good that they took up this space, but I was hoping for something with a lot more street level engagement. It's just awful in my opinion.
  6. In my opinion, the building is well sited (unfortunately, putting a building up to the street is considered unnatural for some ridiculous reason), but does in fact appear poorly detailed at certain material connections on the facade.
  7. Wow, really exudes the muscle and braun of the Flats huh?..
  8. Wondering what that shed is doing inside the retail frontage on Euclid. Part of the advertising agency that's going in there? Very out of place regardless.
  9. What does that even mean? The High Line is a great project that could be used as an example of turning a once forboding relic into an interesting urban space. Just because NYC is referenced doesn't mean we're wishing to become it. Doing "our own thing?" What is our own thing? Choosing from a pool of designers that are strictly Cleveland based?

Check out Light Bistro at W28th & Bridge Avenue, or Flying Fig across from Great Lakes Brewery on Market Avemue (just south of Lorain and W25th. ABC The Tavern and the rest of the bars on W25th (including Bier Markt) are sure to be jumping later tonight. Tremont is also a quick cab ride from Ohio City. Start off at Flying Monkey (Jefferson Ave & Professor) or Lava Lounge (Auburn Ave & W14th) and then talk to the bartenders on where to head next.
  11. Anything missing cobblestone sidewalks, Paul Volpe, and hanging flower baskets from the mix is garbage in the opinion of x, in my opinion.
  12. I think the "901" is probably supposed to be "1901," the year the building was built if I'm not mistaken. The address couldn't be 901 because it's on the west side of East Ninth, thus the 900's haven't started yet.
  13. What a surprising comment.
  14. Off the shelf generic. Embarrassingly lame.

Damn shame. Not many places like this left in the city, or really this country for that matter.
  16. Very cool KJP. Look at that building canyon running down Huron in that 3rd construction photo. I want to be there.
  17. Nope. It would haev been built at Mall level and would have blocked the lake view. There's hardly a lake view there as it is with the stadium in the way. Also, I'm excited by the prospects of raising the level of the mall, and it would actually give you a BETTER view of the lake because you'd be higher (I don't think anyone has realized this). With the right designer it could become a very interesting public space. Here aer a few photos of the Yokohama Ferry Termial by FOA (who just so happens to be doing MOCA).
  18. There appears to be some movement on the exterior of the Truman Building on Euclid Avenue, 2 buildings east of the Cleveland Trust Rotunda. Look to be cleaning the cornice at this point. Was this building part of the Ohio Historic Building investment project?
  19. "We see downtown Cleveland as one of the few areas in the entire region that is constantly growing," Thank you.
  20. Too bad he can't put this knowledge and energy into a development that is gain to the urban fabric of this city.
  21. There was. You look at the area from East sixth to Tri-C, pre innerbelt construction.
  22. Wow, that is incredible. Cleveland really was a beast of a city back in the day. Cincy was once a marquis city, but it was much earlier than Cleveland and thus had much less impressive numbers. I know everyone here likes to compare Cleveland and Pittsburgh due to the steel connection and their proximity, but their population patterns seem to mirror St. Louis more closely. Perhaps the StL/Cle narrative is more similar than the Cle/Pgh one? Pittsburgh has lost more percentage of population than anywhere in the country since 2000 IIRC, so why would you remove them from the conversation?

Broadway/Slavic Village will always have a soft spot in my heart. My grandparents lived on E55th just north on Fleet, and in the mid 80's it was still safe enough to ride bikes as a tot in that area. Unfortunately with the closing of the Riverview public housing in Ohio City, many of the residents from there moved directly into Slavic Village within a year or 2 and the place has gone down hill ever since. Broadway and E55th was once Cleveland's second largest retail district, and while much of it still remains I feel it is only a matter of time until more significant demolition occurs. For a few years in the early 2000's there was a bit of momentum going for the neighborhood, there were even illusions of Slavic Village becoming the next Tremont except possibly more dense and diverse. However, with the aforementioned foreclosure crisis hitting the neighborhood hard, most of that momentum has subsided. I have hope for the area though as it has in my opinion has the most potential and retains a relatively significant density.
  24. We can just use all the demolitions on Euclid Avenue to fill it up!
