  1. "This is Cleveland, things sometimes move slowly," Bonder said. "The right set of partners need to come together with the right financing." Again the PD can't go one article without their typical, unnecessary jabs. The fact that this is Cleveland has nothing to do with the problems in this situation. Glad to hear we have such positive people being part of running major local institutions.
  2. What's the deal with the red line westbound out of Tower City over the last few weeks? It takes an agonizing 7 minutes to get from TC to W25th, stopping several times inbetween for no apparent reason. I haven't noticed any workers doing track maintenance. What's the story?

Also, when the stadium lights went off, they moved on to higher altitudes swooping around the top of Key Tower (1000 feet plus).

I was at the game last night, and let me tell you, those seagulls are hilarious. They seem to start up by the toothbrush light structures, then when they get some confidence they start moving lower into the stadium, swooping at people in the upper, then lower decks, and finally landing in the outfield when there are lulls in play. When a ball comes their way they obviously fly away, but they're back in no more than 10 minutes. Then fans start throwing tortilla chips or hot dog buns around and these things go crazy. The crowd loves it, especially with the fact that we're watching a lsat place team in crappy weather. I'd say there were about 300 gulls there last night, and none more on the field than that last at bat. It's like a circus down there. A real home field advantage. I can almost hear Oil Can Boyd saying, "That's what you get for building a stadium by the ocean."
  5. ^Ontario Street Cafe (personal favorite), Toppers Lounge on E12th (closed though I think), The Rathskellar, The Sidebar on St. Clair, Moriarty's... That's the thing about hole in the wall bars, you have to find them.
  6. Really, a hole in the wall bar is probably the only place that can survive in such a secluded location. Wouldn't be upset if that's what it turned into.
  7. To determine where a fortune 500 company is located by its adjacency to anyone's respective McMansion is one of the most ludicrous things I've ever heard. But I believe it. "Eaton Corp; positioning itself for the next 4 years," should be their new marketing slogan. Great job, go to hell.
  8. The problem is that nobody is working towards a large scale idea of "city building." The people in charge of these projects rarely seem to look at the city as a system of interconnected and interdependant nodes in lue of focusing strictly on their ward, or highway project in this case.
  9. Is the port authority working as hard to get Ernst and Young's building built for the east bank? What a sham.
  10. So if the OC gets a light rail system there will be three major mass transit routes going from downtown to University Circle. Not that I don't want options, but for 2 nodes that are only 4 miles apart it would seem to be a bit much. Now if I had faith in the development pattern for this Opportunity Corridor it may make sense to have it, but office parks and strip malls along the route don't necessitate light rail.
  11. I don't think that's what they were refering to. Those are the Victory Buildings no? Weren't those in discussion for renovation in the previous article?
  12. Don't worry about Breuer, there may be some interesting news in the near future. Can't promise anything though. Stay tuned...
  13. KJP, I'm disappointed that you would equate it to 6 auto parking spaces. How many rail cars would it be?
  14. Cleveland was also shown at the end of one of those "Earth After People," talking about how the deterioration of cities on the Great Lakes after we're gone pose different threats than other locations because of the intense freeze thaw. They said, "large Great Lakes metropolises such as Chicago (shot of the skyline from south east of the city), Cleveland (shot of the city from northeast of the city out on the lake at sunset), and Detroit (shot of a deteriorating warehouse) will succumb to....."
  15. They did, and it could be substituted by any other master plan done for a green field suburban site.
  16. How can a man that has no passion or excitement for the city be the head of an Urban Design program? Krumholz and pretty much everyone from his age group should just disappear from important posts in the city. Really, what are this guys credentials other than working in the City Planning Department?
  17. Octane has really been going down the drain lately. Most of the time the credit card machine doesn't work, or they don't have change for cash, or chicken for the wraps, etc. Not sure what the deal is.
  18. What are you talking about Yanni? That thing is Mega Cool...
  19. Not sure why they didn't just name it Taylor Apartments or something related to its former use. At least it isn't City Place or whatever Gospel Press is called in Tremont.
  20. From what I saw on the map only the county Houston is in is getting more money than Cuyahoga.
  21. It is the Garage Bar owners opening a sushi bar. The name has the word "Dragon" in it. Other than that I don't know.

^True, I just hope that he sees that all of these issues should be viewed as one political point: global trade, immigration, creating an environment that encourages commerce, and how this all relates to citywide land values, tax income, diversity of our citizens and vibrancy of neighborhoods.

How this information isn't common knowledge for any urban politician is simply unbelieveble. Having a densely populated city is 80% of the battle of creating a successful one, and anyone (looking at you Frank Jackson) that snubs his nose at immigration into the city because of the threat of taking locals' jobs shows how much he just doesn't get it.

    HA! Awesome!
