  1. From what I gather from a reliable source it's more to do with the residential/retail part of the project. But CIA and MOCA may be a part of it as well, not sure at this point.
  2. Stay tuned. There should be very exciting news to come in the near future relating to the Triangle development.
  3. What do I think of Cincinatti? I don't think of it. Let it begin...
  4. Here is my letter to the Senator: Senator Patton, I have reviewed your response to Carol Caruso of the Greater Cleveland Partnership on the topic of the 3-C Passenger Rail system, part of a larger idea of a state wide passenger rail system connecting both urban and rural areas, and disagree strongly with your viewpoint. As a recent Kent State University graduate living in Cleveland, I feel that your stance against creating transportation options for Ohio residents goes against this state’s goal of creating new economic opportunities and retaining younger constituents that value urban lifestyles and all that go along with it. Having traveled to Europe and witnessed its multi-modal transportation network and its thriving cities and suburbs, it is obvious that this network of inter-city and inner-city transport systems has assisted in retaining these strong urban cores. It is also worth noting that when this state’s cities had a multi-modal network, they were successful economic engines. When this network broke down due to an over government subsidized and unsustainable form of transportation (the automobile), core cities struggled, and it continues to this day. A strong urban core creates a strong region, and strong regions create strong state economies. I also question your point on when you have went door to door in your district, that you have never been asked about passenger rail. How many asked you about the high costs of gasoline and what your solutions to this problem were? How many expressed that their monthly income had been affected by this rise in prices? How many were concerned about their children moving to more successful regions? Freeways and roads are tax payer subsidized infrastructure, they are not free to the public. The argument that passenger rail does not pay for itself plays off of the ignorance of constituents on this topic and its relationship to how freeways are funded. There are ongoing studies that talk about the economic benefits of passenger rail that I will not go into, but hope that you are aware of. How is it possible that the rest of the world has successfully integrated passenger rail into their transit networks, yet in your opinion Ohio and the United States cannot? I realize that you are not a representative for me or my city, but you are a representative of this State, and for the well being of my city (of which Strongsville is dependant) and State, I urge you to reconsider your stance against the 3-C Passenger Rail System. Thank you for your time.
  5. KJP, you should send that very summary to Senator Patton.

As a kid growing up, Euclid (Cle East side) was an excellent place to grow up. Inner ring suburb with mature trees, lakefront beach clubs and rather densley populated. Sidewalks as far as the eye could see. Walked to school until the 6th grade, when we moved to Mentor... Buses from there on out unfortunately.

  8. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't MMPI's expert determine that the foundations for the existing convention center were in fact stable for new construction loads? I'm not even sure why Osborn is being commissioned for this. What could MMPI possibly have to gain from not diong their due diligence in this investigation? If they were incorrect they would be responsible for cost overruns. This whole situation just makes me ill and wonder how to start a campaign to run for mayor. This shite has to stop.
  9. I'm tired of even wasting time reading up on this topic.
  10. Simple solution: have county residents vote on the location.
  11. Pretty hard to move in and renovate homes or buildings when they're torn down. I understand their concerns, and a lot of these houses should be torn down, but I doubt there would be any more thought put into tearing down a solid framed brick or masonry building, than a deteriorating wood framed house.
  12. ^Take a cab, bus, or train if you're so worried about parking.
  13. SS doesn't have a Warehouse District crowd. It is maybe less chill than Lava or Prosperity, but it's far from a drunken punch palace. Certainly not full of meatheads any time I've been there.
  14. The sign is damn cool. They would not spend thousands of dollars of fabrication and installation to just get rid of it when a rental tenant takes over the powerhouse.

Personally I'm sick of placing museums and other attractions along the lakefront that have little to no effect on downtown core foot traffic. Just because Baltimore put an aquarium on their waterfront doesn't mean that it absolutley should go there. The lakefront should be left for residential and mixed use development, not singular buildings that could really be more successful in other areas. Not sure what the problem is with putting these assets in the middle of the city to create overlapping and consistent foot traffic to utilize what is already there. Look at cities like Florence Italy or New York City, their museums are all part of the urban fabric, where tourists intermingle with residents and others just going about their daily life. I can only imagine how much more successful this city would be if the museums of University Circle and the lakefront were a part of Downtown.

I'm sorry, but this thing is just, I don't know... stupid. It doesn't even deserve a serious response.
  17. How are people like myself, who are monthly pass purchasers, being counted?
  18. Ha. At least it's built up to the sidewalk(!)
  19. Sharpy's is an east side sub shop (there is or used to be one in Euclid, Mentor, and Solon), good stuff if it's the same as it was when I was a teenager (10 years ago). Definetly a plus for Tower City.
  20. I have been car free and parking lot free for almost a year now, and the only time I need a car is to visit family in Lake County. CityWheels is perfect for those few hour visits. So don't tell us that a car is absolutely necessary.

Yeah, that's just igorant. Tearing down buildings that define our past for freeways is a great idea and has always done good for our city... Syke.
  22. God, seeing FCE trying to revive this for their own good is entertaining.
  23. Ever think that maybe they are replicas of the original?
  24. Holy cow. Ehh. It's good that thing has a goal and firms are lined up to organize it, but these firms don't really peak much interest in my opinion. However, it is a port development and not a mixed use type of project so I'll wait and see.
  25. It's too bad for the "local power brokers" because they really have no input in this process. It's between the County and MMPI (at least it's supposed to be).
