  1. I found it going through some folders at work, and there it was. Thankfully I wasn't born for another 7 years.
  2. If Perk Park had better upkeep it could be a pleasant little park. A lot of different vantage point with the topography, mature trees. Not many around downtown otherwise.
  3. Hmmm, that didn't work too well. I'll fix it here in a minute.
  4. I found this article from in the New York Times recently and thought I'd post it. Hopefully this is readable, if not I'll mess around with it later today. Oh yeah....... it's from 1973...
  5. Litt took the historic tax credit comment out of context from what I understand.
  6. X, I see where you're coming from, I just think the "average" of the buildings could be raised. I do enjoy the "cutting edge term selection gimmicks," by the way. ^I say nothing on this board that I wouldn't say in a conversation with anybody when asked what I think about the situation. And by the way, my negative affinity for the mentioned firm is two fold. First, the lead personality of said firm is the loudest mouth of them all in this city and can certainly stick up for himself, and has no problem venting his opinions of others, so in comparison I see this as rather tame. Second I feel that projects like AD are pressed through the same meat grinder for no other reason than the efficiency of said firm, instead of being the stewart of the community that an architect should be. Rant complete.
  7. ^The last thing we need are forumers who attempt to titilate a small group of urbanohio magpies with cutting edge term selection gimmicks. Practical needs for shelter could be considered a cave if you want to get down to basics. But wouldn't it be nice to think that society has progressed enough to realize the importance of good design that looks forward with confidence, something that could have an impact on a self concious city like Cleveland? But, let's keep selecting the City Architecture beige brick background building and hopefully in time the whole city will be invisible.

^As far as I'm concerned, if you can't take a joke, don't dish them out. I don't think these are funny, and it has nothing to do with being offended. Putting "White People Like (insert any word here)," is hardly "genius." Really, you can put any suffix you like and someone could come up with 2 paragraphs on how it relates to caucasians. I'm more offended on being termed a "flyover white," than anything.
  9. "In addition, what does the home you currently live in look like? Is it an architectural masterpiece?" MTS, has it ever occurred to you that not everybody thinks it's appropriate to throw credentials out there in some whim of self promotion. I am an architect (although not yet registered), so I have an opinion about what is being designed in my city. If you can't handle peoples' opinions, I don't what to tell you. This has been one of the more tame dialogues in relation to Breuer Tower and a few others, so I don't really see what the problem is. I personally hate the design of AD and what I've seen so far from FEB. My opinion for FEB is based on the renderings that are close to what the project will be, and the track record of the design architects. What else can we go on? But, I'm glad that these types of projects are happening. The developers just need to get the right architects in here to give this city what it deserves. The UC Triangle Development should be the example other developers are striving for. Contemporary, progressive design talent for a city that wants to be both.
  10. They're both generic, off the shelf designs. I appreciate neither. Large developments like this are dumbed down to the lowest common denominator 99% of the time.
  11. That fence has been there for quite some time.
  12. Great, now City Architecture gets to defile the west end of Little Italy. Unbelievable...
  13. Some idiot threw a full can of white paint out of a window at the City Club Building and it landed right in the middle of the sidewalk, splashing paint all over the newly laid brick and the building itself. Luckily nobody was killed by this during the busy lunch hour around E9th and Euclid.
  14. The parking on the entire viaduct pisses me off more than that horrid sign.
  15. Also visualize Jacob's tower in those renderings and those lots could be a thing of the past.
  16. Are there any plans by RTA to step up maintenance at the W25th street rapid station? The stair way in particular is in horrible shape. Very rusty handrails and treads (is a fresh coat of paint really asking for much? It's standard metal maintenance that appears to not have happened since the station was built) and an antiquated landing size that doesn't allow enough room for two people to pass eachother at the same time. I would think for a relatively new station this wouldn't be a problem, but they are definetly poorly laid out.
  17. That above article is way off. A $170 million dollar project? It's well over $500 million right now.
  18. Phnom Penh, ABC The Tavern, Great Lakes...
  19. What more do you want? Possibly the greatest orchestra in the world playing for free, outside on a July evening, with the symbol of your city as the backdrop.
  20. I think the combination of the signals not being reacted to quickly enough, regulating system being somewhat useless (I'm sorry, I hate these freaking things), and drivers just speeding up too quickly, causes these issues.
  21. How do people not love this city?
  22. It drives me up the wall. I don't see freight operations having any effect whatsoever. Sounds like that operator could be part of the problem...
  23. It was only a 2 car affair, but right after the train left, the 2 car affair sitting on the Brookpark track opened its doors for the passengers that didn't make it on the last one. There were also several waiting on the CUT Viaduct. It seemed to be working rather efficiently. However, RTA really has to do something about the CONSTANT starting and stopping between W25th and Terminal Tower. I don't know if it is the fault of the light switchman, the driver, or the regulating system, but there is a problem, and I can't believe RTA hasn't figured out a way to remedy this situation. There are cars that stop yards from the drop off point at Tower City and are then forced to start back up, and move the 15 feet to let passengers out. It's just ridiculous. I guess if this is the biggest thing I have to complain about, it's not that bad. But considering my commute is W25th to downtown, my entire trip is somewhat frustrating. Something is not working as effieciently as it could be and it seems like it could be an easy fix.
  24. Took the Rapid downtown last night for the Orchestra and fireworks, and it, along with Tower City was out of control packed (a good thing of course). The clouds opened up right as the fireworks were ending, and a large portion of the crowd moved towards TC, but with a couple entrances closed, we were stuck out in the rain. The crowd was laughing and yelling as the rain came down harder, and it really was a hilarious sense of civic bonding. Here's a couple pics from the westbound Red line, and Tower City.
