  1. Let's hope they get a new designer for the addition and the facade before it goes any further. Has aesthetics similiar to the building west of the Medical Mutual (Rose) Building. Not so good.
  2. .... including my fav Steve's Lunch. Why does it seem that place gets so much press? I don't know where to begin, but it has to be one of the grittiest little placest in the country. Whenever friends that have moved out of town come back, Steve's is always on their list after a night at the bars. Seeing "HOT DOGS" in red neon at 3:30am is quite a sight.
  3. Disappointing that they will be leaving the city's grid for a freeway off ramp site. I really don't see anything in this location having any affect on spurring adjacent development. Expanding business is good, but filling some empty lots in Midtown would be more desireable from an urbanistic standpoint.
  4. There is no way ridership is down this year. I've stood on every bus I've riden downtown from the near west side for the last 6 months during rush hours. Same on the Red Line. The dregs on cleveland.com are going to have a field day with that article.
  5. http://www.cleveland.com/news/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/cuyahoga/12148146845820.xml&coll=2 Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority to audit fare boxes Machine, human numbers at odds Monday, June 30, 2008Sarah HollanderPlain Dealer Reporter Based on the number of crowded buses of late, RTA ridership seems to be headed up. But just how much? It's hard to say. .......
  6. New garage is part of the plan, and Breuer didn't design the garage.
  7. Been a while since this thread has had a bump, so here are a few photos of one of the units that will be occupied at Joshua Hall within the next week or so. The project has been entered into several design competitions and hopefully it gets some pub for the designers and the city.
  8. "Sen. Voinovich has supported increased domestic exploration for a decade and insists that America needs to embark on a new commitment to increasing supply of domestic oil while coming up with alternative and renewable resources. He supports exploration in ANWR and the Outer Continental Shelf and has also urged a more conscientious approach to using our resources. Recently, Sen. Voinovich proposed a new “Manhattan Project” to put the United States on a path toward clean energy independence and lower prices at the pump." Notice how they abbreviate Arctic National Wildlife Refuge hoping nobody will know what they're talking about. If he put his energy behind improving mass transit in Ohio we'd all be better off. Instead he stays on the sinking ship of oil exploration that might last a couple more decades.
  9. Hahaha .. oh, man. I love that. Seriously, this whole project will be like unwrapping a present to the city. I, too, am completely shocked that this building was ever covered in that sh!t paneling. Ya know, the 60s and 70s WERE a big time for drugs .. Thanks for the pics, McCleve! Wasn't the Breuer Tower built during that time frame? It all finally makes sense to me. Careful...
  10. The lighting goes the length of the Corridor to East Cleveland.

I've been living car free for 2 months, signed up for City Wheels (side note: City Wheels will have 4 cars Downtown starting mid-July), and bumming rides along the way. If you've got a bike and a monthly pass, you're good to go.
  12. I was just out there, and there is twice as much off as there was in the photos. Also, a few executive types with hardhats were watching the removal. Eli Mann perhaps? Also, the windows of the old facade are huge, probably 8' high by 12' wide.

I grew up Edgecliff Drive in Euclid until I was 12 years old (densely packed older water front houses, smaller tree lined streets), rode my bike everywhere, played baseball in the nearest park or on the street, it was great. Then we moved to a new development in Mentor. Absolutely hated it. Nothing but empty lots and sidewalkless streets. There's just something about calling the red house acroos the street a homerun, and quickly chasing a baseball down the street so it doesn't go down the sewer. That doesn't exisit in the exburbs.
  14. ^What about the garbage?
  15. If there actually were gun shots in Little Italy, don't you think the PD would be all over that Peabody?
  16. That's the one. Trekking it at night is even more interesting. Fire breathing smoke stacks and train cars in every direction.
  17. If you're into industrial grit, take your bike through the Industrial Flats down Independence Road along the river. You may get acosted by Mittal Steel security guards, but the views of the working steel mills, trains carrying red hot slag, overhead catenaries transporting coke, hissing pipes, and just a generally surreal landscape with great juxtaposed city views, I would highly recommend it. Directions: Broadway, south to Dille Road, then a left onto Independence. Then where the river makes a 30 degree angle southwest, take that diagonal right. It's barely visible on google maps (check out street view for a preview), but it will take you to the back side of the east side blast furnace. You'll eventually hit a dead end and have to back track, but a totally bad ass ride I promise.
  18. Can't you get off at the next bus or rapid stop and use the nearest facilities just as easily as getting off a freeway ramp and doing the same?
  19. Maybe RTA should just have front door service for every suburban transit rider. Yes, 3,000,000 stops, but at least more people would use public transit. I mean, the greatest city in the history of the civilized freaking world, Chicago, has that right? -Uninformed Cleveland Suburbs
  20. I really like how Erieview muscularly looks over this area. Very cool.
  21. How they did that without laser cutters is unbelievable in its expansiveness. There had to be some seriuosly caloused pointer fingers after that.

I was hoping to see this thread in ABANDONED PROJECTS.
  23. For once, I agree with kstay2.
  24. The signage for La Strada actually reuses the old red signage thing from what was there before. If anybody has pictures to back this claim up, give my comment some legitimacy.
  25. I don't think it's been rolled out yet.
