I saw Jimmy DiMora at Bier Markt last night with a couple of his flunkies/henchmen. The guy is a bowling ball. I yelled out "BREUER TOWER" to him, but got no response.

Scary. Listening to Boards of Canada and purusing those images is an eerie experience.

    Damnit. Hell with it.

    Let's see if this works.

From last year, but pretty sweet. Found it on our server at work.

"Tapping what may be the biggest oil finds in the Western Hemisphere in three decades will require equipment that can withstand 18,000 pounds per square inch of pressure, enough to crush a pickup truck, pipes that can carry oil at temperatures above 500 degrees Fahrenheit (260 Celsius) and drill bits that can penetrate layers of salt more than one mile thick." Good lord. I know this is oversimplifying the issues, but when does it become more profitable for these companies and the government to diversify and work towards a society that can sustain itself without digging to the mantle layer of the Earth?
  7. I guess I could see why Lola wouldn't use outdoor dining. Sometimes E4th has some rif raf from Indians games that patrons may not want to deal with if they're dropping $150 on dinner. But I personally like sitting outsid regardless.
  8. Regardless of the aesthetic deficiencies of the existing structure (which I could argue is better than what is proposed on that link), I don't see why tearing down a 5-story warehouse with 15' ceilings for a "temporary" surface lot, is seen as positive news.
  9. It's unbelieveble that in this day in age, organizations are willing to demolish such interesting pieces of art. I mean really, how much money would it cost to carefully move those pieces to a better location. I've never personally seen these pieces, but what a shame it would be to lose them.

I was in LA in October and stumbled upon Broadway after a seminar, and it really is one of the most badass streets I've ever been on. Looks like a more dense Prospect Avenue (Cleveland) from the 1970's.
  11. FYI. MVRDV has been thrown off the CIA project. Burt Hill Architects is now the lead architect. 13 budgets were calculated for the building, and all was well. The 14th (14?!?) shows a skyrocketed construction cost even though much of the design was scaled back. A falling out occured between the owner and Winny Maas, and MVRDV is off the project. Horrible for everyone involved, except Burt Hill. Not good.
  12. I friend of mine just bought a condo at F&S. One bedroom for $125,000. Free indoor parking spot included. I've heard the sales are going pretty well there.

Took a few photos over the last couple days. Some from the Huntington Building, some from the rooftop of the Joshua Hall Building, and also a peek inside one of the units. The photomerge tool on Photoshop is excellent.
  15. At least it wasn't designed in the postmodern or neoclassical "styles," I guess...

Everything in that shot is still there (except the phone booth)

Make sure you're comparing apples to apples. Cleveland is about the same size as Surrey, British Columbia or Halifax, Nova Scotia. Winnipeg dwarfs us. Ah, no. How do you figure that math? Winnepeg Population (2006 Census[1][2]) - City 633,451 (Ranked 7th) - Density 1,365.2/km² (3,535.9/sq mi) - Urban 641,483 (Ranked 9th) - Urban Density 1,428.95/km² (3,701/sq mi) - Metro 694,668 (Ranked 8th) - Metro Density 130.996/km² (339.3/sq mi)

Those were the good old day...
  19. Steve's is the greatest invention ever. And Virginia, the slaw dog slanging late night waitress, takes no shite. If you step out of line, expect a half drunken Officer Dooly to escort you out onto Lorain Avenue. Cleveland at it's best for sure.
  20. I would hope that it's common knowledge that when people come into town from elsewhere, it's the city, not the suburbs, that anyone with a brain would be interested in checking out for the most part. Unfortunately I know I'm wrong on that assumption.
  21. ...AND THE WESTSIDE MARKET - THAT IS NUMBER ONE ON MY LIST Surprisingly the Westside Market has had the same hours for at least 70 years. On the old photos you can see a sign that says open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday.

It was all about Mr. Hero's and Scotto's. The corner was a fast food nightmare. Burger King, Wendy's, Mr. Hero & McDonalds. At one point there might have been an Arthur Treachers street level along with the one inside the Arcade or was it Arby's? Think it was Arby's.

Scotto's Pizza was awesome. The one at Euclid Square Mall, along with the kickass 1970's Burger King there are very fond images. I also remember the old McDonald's on the other side of the Euclid Avenue Old Arcade entrance. Or it may have been in the next building over. Even as a 6 year old kid I liked the old worn down restaurants.
  24. You would lose your job by posting here? Unless your boss knows it's you then whats the deal. You could send me a PM. There are options. I'm not saying I would, but stranger things have happened, and I'm not willing to put myself in that position.
  25. I gave you information. It's not a W. Don't you think I would tell you if I could do it without the risk of losing my job?
