Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
I wouldn't mind the Parisian Metro signs. :) Maybe it's just that I tend to like classically-styled things better, but to me the modern designs seem extremely boring. Too many straight lines and perfect curves. Not being an artist, I can't put it into words to well, other than to say a perfect example of what I can't stand isn't so much the signs themselves, but whatever that red upside-down V-type structure is to the left of the sign. It just screams "UGLY" at me. This is a classically designed "thing." It's vintage 1994.

Cleveland: Downtown: The 9 / Rotunda / County Admin Development
Not really sure what the advantage of having the county in the middle of the Euclid Corridor is either. Downtown is a natural position for the county because of it's mass transit options from BOTH the west and east side.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Someone should do an investivagite report on investigative reports. Anything that has the word ACTION in front of it has no credibility in my book.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
I like the cross pollenation of restaruants, theaters, and music venues from Akron to Cleveland (Bricco, Bang and Clatter, new venue at 2527).

Yes, and I would rip out everything for a clean slate.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
If they would only build it up to the street like an actual, I don't know, neighborhood. Aren't there large fences along the street at Arbor Park?

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
^Sold out? That's ridiculous. It'll never happen.

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
The building itself in incredible. I'm not that surprised by the price even though I dislike the way it is built out. Original fire escape out front, large windows, probably 12' ceilings, bar on the first floor. If you're worried about freaking parking, walk a half a block. I'd take this over Stonebridge and Pinnacle any day of the week.

Cleveland: Retail News
DAMMIT! I love Brigade. The stores in the WD and the one at Coventry always carried different lines of merch. Although this sucks, I will still choose to buy from them over Nordstrom/Saks/etc. because they are a local start up. Dan, the owner is perhaps one of the most fashion-forward minded people in Cleveland and really is making an effort to bring lines like G-STAR RAW, and other stuff from LA and Europe to Cleveland, and this is stuff we probably never would have saw. Although I wish them the best, and I support them doing what they feel they need to do to stay afloat, this is very sad. That one block was always my favorite downtown shopping spot, since I could hop across to Style Lounge and Constantino's while I was down there. Wasn't it Mike and Brian that owned and ran Brigade? The guys who design Wrath Arcane?

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
I wonder why they didn't decide to let the buyers build out the units. It's a great building, but if it were me I'd rather have the freedom to do whatever I want instead of dealing with the default granite countertop and stainles steel refrigerator.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
On the back page of the business section on friday they posted comments from cleveland.com discussion (w28th was on it as the opening comment). Some decent remarks, but I'd like to see Steven Litt get into the action either on his blog or a full story.

Cleveland Eateries: A Where To Guide for Visitors and Residents
I hope you don't consider yourself to have an obnoxious mind for remembering details. It's Light Bistro at Bridge and West 28th. I do like Lolita/Fahrenheit better, but I think Light is a solid resturaunt.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
Too bad they can't just leave the facade yellow. Looks pretty sweet just like that.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
This is a big topic on cleveland.com today with some informed comments, and some not so informed comments. It made me think that we should designate a day and bumrush cleveland.com with the ideas and positive outlook that are discussed here on a daily basis to squelch out the negative vibe and piss off the naysayers over there.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
Yeah, good thing they'll keep that surface lot in front, parking seems to be at a premium in the surrounding area... I hate cars so much.

The reconfiguring of the Waterfront Line is totally ridiculous. How much would something like that cost? $10,000,000? $20,000,000?

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
The reality of the situation us that Eaton is know as a very politically conservative company and that has apparently effected their opinions on architecture and how they visualize their new headquarters. A few months ago I saw a proposal for Eaton by one of the largest firms in the city for Stark's project. It was an authentically contemporary proposal and would have made a strong statement for Eaton and may have become an icon for the company. Unfortunately however, their conservative aesthetic views were not in line with this proposal and it wasn't investigated further. I cannot imagine a situation where a corporate campus will seamlessly integrate with the urban fabric, and this is just an f'ing shame. Eaton could have become part of something larger than itself, but it is choosing to corner itself and its significant workforce into an inaccessible nook of the city never to be seen again.

With all the traveling that these supposedly intelligent executives do across the entire planet you would think that they would pick up at least a shred of urban design sensibilities. If Eaton wants a freaking campus move to Solon, I really couldn't give a damn. And seriously, they want that site bad enough that they will pay to move an entire rail line? Are you kidding me? Maybe we can reconfigure the Cuyahoga River to E12th and Superior to give them riverfront property. This is ridiculous.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
It almost looks like a scene out of Apocalypse Now, except in a city. Weird. It felt strange out there too. Fog deadens noise in a strange way.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Hopefully there is a better view tonight (although it's foggier today than yesterday).

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Anybody notice the strange lights on the Terminal Tower through the fog last night. It looked as though temporary lighting has been installed on the scaffolding, and then there appears to be a new permanent light source up there as well. I'll post some grainy photos when I get a chance, but check it out tonight as well.

NE Ohio: MLS stadium
There are higher things on the list than an MLS stadium in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by stores that carry crap I don't need, and restaurants I'd never patronize. Bring it downtown, fine, but if it's out in Macedonia, no thanks. I hardly think that your assumption of a "more progressive state government" has anything to do with it. How about smart growth instead of tearing up wetlands and corn fields for yet more unneccesary retail in an already saturated market.
