  1. Paul Volpe and Cleveland Heights would be better off if he disappeared off into the sunset.
  2. Not surprised about anything here. The parking garage, skywalks and pavilion are big disappointments. Would have enjoyed a more dense feeling with the tower on PS, but that’s me. Also, the exposed columns along the East and south facades are very weak design elements. Feels like a reaction to bad design review comments, I suspect Landmarks to be the culprit based on past commentary. This effect exists on the EY Tower to poor results. Overall a big yawn from a strictly design perspective, but looking forward to a 600’ tall building going up downtown.
  3. ^Truly amazing.
  4. Man, I just don't know who these developers hire that create these tired interior spaces. K&D is certainly the worst, but this doesn't look much better.
  5. It’s standard click bait from .com, pitting similarly sized cities against Cleveland, making the other seem light years ahead. In this case it’s pretty weak.
  6. I'd rather see a riverfront neighborhood spring up over here, but I guess more green space it is.
  7. Seems pointless at this juncture.

This I like. Too bad they hired a seemingly terrible graphic designer. I can’t get over the G logo, worst logo in sports.

Would have preferred the Spiders, but I’ll get with the Guardians. That “G” logo is an embarrassment however, I thought it was a joke at first.
  10. The entries are sheltered per the notes on the elevations.
  11. These people in Bratenahl are clearly on the take from Murray Energy, a coal distribution company. Unreal that something so transparent can hold up a project of this size, what a freaking joke.
  12. It's sad, but also hilarious that there are likely townhomes going up in Ohio City or Tremont that will end up being taller than this ridiculous paint center or whatever they're calling it.
  13. Great, an opportunity for Landmarks to complain about height for no reason and offer unproductive commentary.
  14. If I’m not mistaken, Cleveland, and Old Angle specifically, was one of the first areas of distribution for Stone in the mid-2000’s. Could go for a a couple cold ones now.
  15. Arm chair QB here, but it would have been interesting if they could have vacated W3rd from Superior to St. Clair, and widened Frankfurt from PS to W6th. May have eliminated the need for 2 pedestrian bridges at the very least, and allowed the site plan to work how many on this forum would have preferred (tower on PS).
  16. They've been at this for 15 years, glad to see they've got the money to pull this off.
  17. And Duck Island residents are concerned about traffic due to Stoneleigh, there’s what, 4 cars visible in those pictures?
  18. The density is what makes Hessler interesting. While this newest project is poorly designed and cheap looking, it does add density and therefore interest to the street.
  19. ^Political will and millions of dollars.
  20. To piggy back on my comment above, some of these new Shaker residents were forced eastward after failing to crack into the Lakewood housing market (after renting in Ohio City, Tremont, Downtown, DS in their 20's and 30's) either due to high prices or lack of available homes.
  21. Shaker Heights is FILLED with middle aged, former near west side and downtown renters, in addition to a lot of out of state people that want/are used to the density of successful cities. I’m afraid the voices of Cleveland Heights are the same crunchy types that have opposed new development for the past 30 years.
  22. ^That makes entirely too much sense to implement.
  23. In my opinion the Landmarks Commission is not equipped to review larger structures/projects. They’re better suited to oversee historic renovations.
  24. It's my understanding that parcel 004-06-087, a Cleveland Landbank parcel, is not part of the deal (it's part of another). It's mislabelled as an APL property on the auditor's site.
  25. My parents live down the street from the old Sawyer House, I was actually a bus boy at a former restaurant there back in 1998. I can tell you there is simply no culture of preservation in Mentor. This building is wedged in between garbage strip malls and is likely viewed as an antiquated building in the way of “progress” by residents and the city. If no one cares, what’s the point?
