  1. Too bad they've already bulldozered through the lobby facade. Excellent planning.
  2. I'm a big fan of the Next Connect signs, and having them out on the street would be beneficial.
  3. That building is a hulking bad ass. Hopefully it is treated well in the new design.
  4. If it makes x and muski feel better, I'll edit it to say architect. You're welcome.
  5. It was Rem Koolhaas. I would hardly consider quoting myself, thanks for asking though.
  6. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: It is reasonable that the property owner wish to “enliven” the façade and “update” the appearance of the building, and it is the opinion of staff that the addition of the new canopy and the banners, in addition to some creative exterior lighting treatments, is one way to achieve this goal; however, the addition of the cornice to a building that was never designed to have one is not appropriate. The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation dictate that “Changes that create a false sense of historical development, such as adding conjectural features or elements from other historical properties, will not be undertaken”. Furthermore, the addition of this postmodern “decorative” element makes the building out of character with the adjacent buildings that were constructed as part of the Erieview redevelopment plan. Thank God. This statement should be spread far and wide to rid us of this pasted on garbage. Interesting statement from a prominent urbanist: Many believe architecture should reflect the historical "and should have a minimal sense of belonging to an identity, so it is a completely conterproductive and reactionary idea and also part of this nostalgia. It would be really interesting to locate that moment when nostalgia started to become the dominant mode. And when would you locate it? Postmodernism." Postmodernism is a movement of people afraid or unthoughtful enough to progress into and accept the future. End rant.
  7. That was a horrible place for an office building anyways.
  8. "The area near the Clark Avenue bridge is not a smudge. It was kept open for future steel mill expansion. The land was owned either by Republic Steel or Jones & Laughlin Steel. I'm thinking it was the latter, because J&L expanded its Cleveland works in that area about 1950." Maybe they were leaving the land for future Steelyard Commons expansion.
  9. I don't undderstand why Stark is so hungup on the office mix in the Warehouse district, didn't Crocker Park go up without any significant department stores or large office tenant?
  10. Those names are ridiculous. Are they serious?
  11. It is just horribly hilarious that this situation has arisen, and who could really be surprised. Although this is a great way to waste an ass load of taxpayer money. How much is that this year, $10 million when you consider the juvenile detention center fiasco?
  12. Couldn't disagree more on your Office dA thoughts, but that's alright X.
  13. Thank God City Architecture is religated to being only the local architect. This little triangle is going to be so bad ass.
  14. It's typical Clinic; build a building and then knock down the next block to keep a moat of vacant land surrounding the campus.
  15. Well put X. I found that rather puzzling as well.
  16. I think Straphanger meant he/she would trade Key Tower and a taller skyline for a dense, bustling urban center. I agree.
  17. Anybody know what the building in front of the Hanna Annex is in the original photo? I've seen other photos of it on Cleveland Memory Project but it had no information on what it was. Looks like it was around 10 stories. It's the site of the current surface parking lot across from the old Bottoms Up.
  18. Silodam in Amsterdam, I heard I had a good time there.

I was actually in REX's office on thursday night in NYC and saw about 100 different versions of this project. Pretty bad ass.
  20. Ah, I see. My bad.
  21. This was the problem that was researched for the Cleveland Competition, maybe ODOT and the city should review what was come up with during the investigations.
  22. "Why those dates? The 17-story Central National Bank on Euclid Avenue was demolished in 1949 for Woolthworth's. In your photo, the bank is already gone." KJP, I'm not sure Central National Bank has been tor down yet in the photo. Check out the building directly to the right of the first setback on the Terminal Tower, looks like CNB with it's huge signage on top no?
  23. I wonder how much energy and pollution could be saved if people lived <5 miles from where they live instead of 30.
  24. I hardly think the Cleveland development can be considered a "lifestyle center."
