Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
MTS, sitting there and complaining about Cleveland marketing itself is all well and good, but what are you doing about it? Call local officials, send emails and letters... Sense my sarcasm.

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
A long night last night Htsguy, I see your points moer clearly today. Can you elaborate on who the firm is?

Cleveland's motto, one that not too many people know: PROGRESS AND PROSPERITY

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
As a city we should be viewing constraints as opportunities (are you listening Marcel Breuer tower opponents)? The safety concerns would not be too enormous, come up with something that becomes an example for the rest of the world to follow.

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
Dude, do you really even know what your talking about? This is the same situation that the St. Ignatius Performing Arts is in, (negotiations with CPP for electric rates for the project), and it will start construction in January. So I don't think this sort of contact should be looked at as being in a so called "touchey feely stage." They know they are going to have to pay for power, so why else would they want to know unless they are srious about getting somehing going?

Cleveland: MOCA
The design process hasn't taken over a year. They have been designing since december. Would you want something less thought out like most of the crap produced by some other firms who will remain unnamed? Trust me, they are working on this project. I've seen Farshid Moussavi in town a couple times over the last couple months.

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
That rendering for Forest City brings back some memories. For better or worse I had a hand in Photoshopping those damn renderings.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Hell with just a station on the RTA Viaduct, let's build on the damn thing and use it as a combination street/mass transit right of way. Basically a hyper stonebridge that is designed, planned, and built well.

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
Awesome. Really looking forward to grab a drink at this place. One of the coolest buildings in the city in my opinion.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Great project, but unfortunately I have to be pessimistic because Paul Volpe is everywhere. "Urban Contemporary?" Any architect naming a style as something they are designing around is a sham. Hopefully "urban contemporary" doesn't include fake cornices and lots of eifs.

Interview with Curitiba, Brazil's Mayor & Architect on transit
Here's an interview contained in Bruce Mao's bookMassive Changes, with Jaime Lerner, the Mayor of Curitiba, Brazil. He is also an architect, and helped in planning the mass transit system in that city, considered by many, one of the greatest in the world. The idea of coordinating different modes of mass transit is one that seems to be missing in many American cities. Cleveland in particular has an opportunity to combine transit options with the Euclid Corridor and the Red Line as they traverse the East Side.

Checked out the Import Haus this afternoon. The place is great. German beer and wine selection is extensive (although make sure you buy alcohic beer as opposed to the non-alcohoic sixer if you're looking for the buzz). Here's some purchases.

Awe man, 1960's light posts are sweet. Here's Euclid Avenue's.

Yeah, those huge signs are badass. Same can be said for the ones formerly on top of the B.F. Keith Building.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
^^First time I've ever agreed with edisou. The fact that it's being held in East Cleveland isn't going to help legitimize this cause and get suburbanites involved.

I hope MRN buys that metal flag topped strip center across for the market. I'll be the first to swing a sledge at that embarrassment. Does anyone have a photo of the building that was on that site previously? I remember seeing that there was a building almost as tall as the bank at the sw corner Lorain/w25th.

Great news. City Architecture........

If you are moving to Cleveland for a job, what industry is it in?
How about architect/arts. Cleveland had more arch jobs created in the last year than any other city in the country (pretty sure I read it on uo a couple months ago).

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
I checked out Dish on W25th last night for a quick sandwich for dinner and was impressed. It has about a dozen sandwiches, a dozen salads, and sides, and also a vegetarian menu and plenty of seating to dine in. They also include homemade barbeque chips with the meal which is damn good. Check it out. They're open until 7:00 during the week. I walked over there after Lelolia closed at 5:00 instead of at 6:00 when it usually does...

^Couldn't agree more. If Lelolia stayed open for 30 more minute they'd make another $1,000 a week I bet.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
^The fact that it wasn't on the initial list only adds to the deviation from rational thought that has defined the process of this project. They want the bodies and priminance on Euclid Avenue, the heart of the city according to the commissioners (what happened to Public Square being the center?), yet this scheme all but ignores it in the massing study. And what in the hell are those things on the south wall of the rotunda in the model? That facade has been covered with several different buildings for the past 100+ years and they think they are just going to peel off the Breuer Tower from it and have a facade? That elevation was never meant to be visible, and yet KPF makes it the most prominent facade of the project with some lame ass plaza fronting it. "Oh, but we'll just cover it with some turquise panels, it will look real sweet. That'll work..."
-
Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
If the Public Square lot cost less than $22,000,000, (the cost for demo of Breuer Tower) what's the difference? Other than filling in a blank in the city and leaving a landmark stand for future reuse of course.
