  1. The Euclid Corridor Project is perhaps the first of many TRANSIT UPGRADES of its caliber in the city of Cleveland. This type of system has changed population trends in the city if Curitiba, Brazil, creating one of the finest and most efficient transit systems in the world, serving a high density population. The ECP is not simply new buses for the #6. It may even prove to be more successful than a subway under Euclid Avenue because its visibilty on ground level, development potential-wise (getting people on the streets as opposed to below ground). A subway may be the more efficient option as far as commute time, but the development potential for the above ground option is just as great if not greater. Sometimes urbanlife's comments remind me of something Dick Feagler would say at his pessimistic Clevelander best.
  2. I see urbanlife still has no clue.

My bad on "the OC." Typo.
  4. M2S, the city planning commission is split in 2 on how this thing should turn out. The county commissioners are pissed that it is that close, and are considering other options if it doesn't pan out for them. Other than that, I don't know how else to respond to your "question."

^^Clevelanders fighting for new Clevelanders, not a bad fight to be had. I live in Ohio City and would absolutely recommend it. It has a full service grocery store, dozens of bars/restaurants, easy mass transit connections (rail and bus), the West Side Market, adjacent to Edgewater Park on the Lake, Great Lakes Brewing Company, and a 5 minute bus ride/$5 cab ride downtown. Lakewood is an excellent example of a dense streetcar suburb, and has a young population, but if you're looking to stay closer to Downtown, the OC is the way to go.
  6. Who hasn't contacted these people on this topic? They aren't reconsidering their desicion because they've had a change of consceince. Or do you mean about moving the county out of Cleveland? If that's what you meant, let's win the first fight, then move onto the next bout.
  7. I thought it was supposed to be today.
  8. This sort of attitude reveals yet another layer of incompitence with these two jackasses. I'll trade saving a landmark structure and it's surrounding context for a thousand and a half cig sucking county workers. Let them drive to the nearest Steak and Shake or whatever out in Strongsville. Having it in Cleveland makes sense because it is the center of the county population, moving it out of that to simply tap Cleveland in the nuts a bit is ridiculous. There is no way these two idiots will make it through the next election. God can only hope. Damn empty lots all over the city and these morons had to muck up the process with tearing down an interesting building. So much for the idea of Cleveland's design community not being mobilized to stop such an attrocity huh Steven Litt?
  9. I could see the County Commissioners saying f it and moving to the suburbs, just to give Cleveland a tap to the you know what's.
  10. Fine, let it sit empty until a developer turns it into some bad ass condos. But don't tear it down thinking you're doing us a favor you fat bastard.
  11. West 14th is the primary feeder street into Tremont from the freeway and Ohio City, but other than that it is a traffic jam-free neighborhood, as opposed to W25th Street near the West Side Market on a saturday that can get backed up for blocks. Tremont is pretty much a typical residential neighborhood in the traffic sense, aside from the 500 or so rec-league coed football players flow into the Treehouse throughout saturday mornings and afternoons.
  12. The windows on the first level of the tower were cleaned yesterday morning. Not sure if it was county workers doing it, or just some guys that decided to take the grime off.
  13. ^^Thanks for the assignment, I'll get right on that... ^pittsburgh's skyline is overrated.

Zoom of the incredible Marcel Breuer tower from the alley off of East 9th.
  15. Evergrey, you should talk about Pittsburgh's declining population and industry base like you do in every Ohio city's thread.
  16. Jesus God, speaking of new stations, that thing at W117th is the worst thing I have ever seen. Did they mistakenly built a shrunken Applebee's and place it at the base of the Rapid? Absolutley horrendous to say the very least. The old stop with its curving shelters and 1970's'ish signage along W117th was infinetly more appropriate for an urban mass transit station as poorly upkept as it was. I could have done without the streetside parking obviously, but it's still there.

    Around $9,000,000
  18. While taking context into consideration is certainly important, Stern's design solutions generally look as though he purposely creates a situation where you don't even know it's there. It's simply non-descript, uninspired architecture. Not really a concept that should permiate through the Flats.
  19. The city wouldn't give Progressive tax abatement if I remember correctly. It's not like 5,000 people working and spending downtown would offset property tax losses.... Thanks Mike White.
  20. I think the bigger question is, why is the rendering shown in Miami? And they just couldn't bring the building right up to the sidewalk, always have to have that 5' buffer. What the shit? Otherwise I'm a fan.
  21. ^^There was a piece in Metropolis magazine about that shop a couple months ago (cool little cutout of the actual building at E59th and Chester as well). Did he ever try selling the clothing in Cleveland before opening a store in brooklyn?
  22. They are building a $10,000,000 performing arts center on the south side of Lorain at "W30th." Nothing to rave about architecturally.
  23. Compact all of it into 3 square miles. Say yes to hyper-density.

Here's hoping this thing never gets built.
  25. ^^Who is this guy, Paul Volpe? If you would look at the previous posts on the WRL CSU project you will see 5 or 6 day shots. And NBBJ takes a front seat to nobody, just look at their proposal for CSU...
