  1. ^Yea, they always come up with an excuse for everything!! The most important issues of our time: CRIME, TRANSPORTATION, AND EDUCATION. "Don't raise the sales tax. I am going to be buying an SUV and flatscreen soon" "I will never ride that thing" "My kids don't go to that school. Why should I pay when I'm paying out the %$^ now for QUALITY CATHOLIC (OR PRIVATE) EDUCATION."
  2. That's cool!!! There are quite a few great projects included with this.. (Not to mention our little pet project here at home.)
  3. Ha ha, you aren't kidding!
  4. " Has anyone seen my red, Ssswingline ssstapler?" Classic flick!
  5. ^Y'all killin me! Impressive to say the least!!
  6. Whatever it takes to get a positive return!
  7. "Section 8 in Price Hill/Westwood provides more livable space for families, which helps the crime rate in the long term." I would agree with you 50% on this. I am not entirely sure how Section 8 works, but it seems to me they have saturated this area with families receiving vouchers. I would agree with your statement on more liveable space = crime reduction in the long term IF spread out more evenly among the county or better yet the region. In this case you are essentially displacing one towns problems to another. Now, I could be wrong and have attempted to look up the county's demographics regarding Sec 8, but have never found anything. Maybe, referring to OTR was a little overdramatic but I ask you to take a walk down Warsaw Ave and tell me that East Price Hill hasn't gotten the short end of the stick. It is hard to sell a young family a house in these type of areas. I am not going to name any other towns, but I KNOW there are towns within the county who have little to no voucher residents living within their borders. I believe this system will work to reduce crime and encourage a sense of hometown pride IF it is implemented in the manner that is was designed.

I would like to think the basin would have a pretty good jump start to sustain its growth and private development on it's own. I would like to see the city start focusing ALL of it's energy and resources on its older first generation burbs. (Walnut Hills, Westwood, P-Hill, Avondale, Camp Washington, Northside, etc.) These hoods will be instrumental in holding on to and increasing population in the future.
  9. Yea, aside from downtown developments, (which I fully support) the city needs to be doing everything they can to retain and hold on to these populations. The existing housing stock can hold so much more than what these numbers reflect. The more people they let leave the area due to crime, blight, and other issues in the coming years, the harder it will be to ultimately to get them back from the townships and Indiana towns farther west. This area of town has the potential to be twice as bad as OTR in it's worse day due to the number of households and square miles that it encompasses. (Not to sound negative but the neighborhoods of Westwood and P-Hill are at the tipping point right now.) There is alot of die hards residents who are doing so much to try and save the area but the shear numbers (sq. miles and people) are larger than anything this city has seen when you combine these two neighborhoods. In that same breath, this area also has the potential to be something great for the city. If done right and protected from further blight, the city has the opportunity to turn this area into the breadbasket for the overall INFILL goals that Cincy needs to start raising that population with some AUTHORITY!
  10. Note to self: "DO NOT RUN WHEN GETTING ROBBED" How many times have we heard this same story in recent weeks? Man shot fleeing robber BY JENNIFER BAKER | [email protected] E-mail | Print | digg us! | del.icio.us! | Click-2-Listen OVER-THE-RHINE – A man was shot late Sunday while trying to flee a masked gunman trying to rob him, Cincinnati police said today. The victim, 23, was shot in the buttocks about 10:20 p.m. on Elder Street, police emergency communication reports state. Twenty minutes later, University Hospital notified police of the shooting when the victim arrived at the hospital in a private vehicle, police said. The suspect is 5-foot-11 and wore all black clothing and a black mask, police said. The Enquirer will update this story as information develops.
  11. Attorney alleges "gross mismanagement" on sidewalks project You know, this happens quite often. You would expect any construction project done by the city AND the county would have to coinside with Duke future plans before they start anything. I have seen countless roads paved on the west side, only to be bastardized by new gas line cutouts 6 months later. (My street as one example)
  12. "however if you plan them out accordingly it can really make a fantastic urban space." Good Point! As if it were originally planned to always be there!
  13. Older article that I didn't see posted here. (I think? Forgive me if this has already been posted!) Interesting stuff plus it references Atlantic Station. http://money.cnn.com/2006/05/31/real_estate/green_goes_large_scale/index.htm
  14. I have to agree with dmerkow on this. I would rather see an area of mixed architecture, but we couldn't plop a German style (or any one style) neighborhood surrounding the Freedom Center. What about Italian and Romanesque architecture. There is a large history of that as well not to mention population wise. (Little Italy - Fairmount) Throw in some modern Deco with some contemp and you start to have a pretty diverse, unique, neighborhood complimented with the different existing buildings already surrounding the site. (CBD, NUFC and the stadiums)
  15. Make getting a driver's liscence as difficult as getting a liscence to fly a plane, have zero tolerance drunk driving. But isn't it a god given right! I am sure the constitution references the right for every American to drive a vehicle, even the illegal immigrants!
  16. ^I have been noticing more of those plates around town also!
  17. ^Maybe we could get a bulk price on the demo and get them to take that hideous 150 year old piece o crap down spanning the river in the center of the Banks area. It stands out like a sore thumb and would not compliment the new development!!!! :drunk:  God this town needs some architecturally significant structures built! The lack their of is killing me.
  18. Possibly, they didn't give a year! I wonder if that was on purpose! :-D
  19. Huh! I think I like that type of tax structure. It's a little more cut and dry, plus wouldn't people who are not frivolous with there money stand to benefit more from this?
  20. Enquirer is saying early next year and WCPO is saying late Fall. Late Fall sounds greeeaaat! Don't know how accurate or realistic that is though!
  21. I think all of that uncontrolled growth is about to catch up and bite these folks in the ars. Water and the high cost and lack there of will probably be the ultimate downfall to Zona. Is it true TN doesn't have a state income tax? I heard thier sales tax is 10 or 11 percent though.
  22. ^ "pop" (fizzing bubbly overflowing)
  23. Knoxville has blown up within this past decade.
