Marty B, was on this morning. He was giving Christie pointers on her debut of throwing the first pitch out tonight at GAB.
  2. Marvin needs to ban every player from even patronizing any business, bar, or comedy club in KY. Just stay on the right side of the river, use COMMON SENSE, and let all this go away!

I say we offer Marty the Head Coaching Position! If you ever listen to him, you know what I mean. The SOB knows a "little" about baseball and would give a better showing than any of these clowns since the Pinella era.

I think they are just trying to emphasize that the city is passed the point "Of Down And Out". There is alot more happening within the past 3-5 years than happened during the entire 1990's. Mallory is just doing his part to keep the positive momentum going. He was on Bob and Tom yesterday morning and was talking the city up big time! He used the phrase " This city is HOT right now". I was quite impressed with his humor. He had everyone LTArssesO. Another great positive showing for the city!!

Eventually they will be singing those midwestern blues!

Jmeck makes some great points. Many people in this country are having alot less children these days. My house according to any census stat has only one person living in it right now. I am only the second owner of this 50 year old house that previously had a family that raised 6, yes 6 children in a two bedroom house. While it is good to discuss and debate these numbers, I think we psycho analyze these numbers way more than we should about reasons that really do not pertain entirely to the overall goal and economic strength or vitality of a region, county, or city. (IMO) We have reached the point where we are going to be using the term suburban infill pretty heavily in sentences. Many of us from cinci know about the first gen burbs and what is going on in neighborhoods within 6-7 or so miles from downtown. This is a vicious cycle that all towns and cities will eventually face in their own future. One shopping center or special development doesn't make the declining trends reverse themselves. It takes more than a Banks project. Look at CBD without it. It's doing fine and it will didn't shoot up overnight. It took forty years to get to this point and may take another forty to get a area back to acceptable population numbers. PEOPLE LIKE THOSE THAT ARE ON THIS FORUM ARE GOING TO BE THE BIGGEST FACTORS IN HELPING TO MAYBE REVERSE TRENDS OF THE PAST 4 DECADES. Encouraging others to have pride in there neighborhoods will and is playing a huge part in what you see in OTR. Cheviot has been making some strides lately to help boost economic pride. (simple as adding flower pots in front of businesses) West chester will someday go through this whether it be because people are moving back torward Ham Cty because of transportation costs, traffic issues, or whatever other problem you could foresee 10 -30 yrs down the road. The entire U.S. population will eventually stop growing within the coming decades. Birth and death rates will cross each other and in some areas already have. WE WILL JUST HAVE TO EVOLVE!
  7. Agree - Very immpressive Mfg. number for Cleve-land. I would not have thought it to be that much higher than Cincy. I know both cities had been getting hit hard within the last decade or so but I pictured Cav country to be in worse shape than that. Nice work on locating these numbers!
  8. I just drove by it about an hour ago and I have to say I do like the open look myself. Haven't gotton the nerve yet to go try it!

Thats a pretty depressing pic! I flew into Ft. Lauderdale a few months back and the view from the plane was wild. You couldn't draw a straighter line between sprawl and what I am guessing is protected everglades for as far as you could see from the plane.

I love how the enquirer title their stories. Yesterdays title: Mayor: Census count low again BY GREGORY KORTE | [email protected] Todays title: Census: City's gain suburbs' loss BY GREGORY KORTE | [email protected]
  11. Would this have something to do with the old Piketon uranium plant plans? I doubted due to the fact I thought that was made public already.
  12. Probably an intern writing it who has no idea where to find Main, Mcmicken, Elm, or Race. F-ing Enquirer!
  13. Westwood has it's rough streets but as a whole is in pretty descent shape. I don't think things are as bad as people or media portray them to be. I live and commute from there every day. The neighborhood overall is in fair condition. McHenry and Harrison have seen betters days though. Apartments and rental properties are what is the thorn in the side for Westwood and the entire west side for that matter. ABSCENTEE LANDLORDS ARE AND HAVE BEEN A GROWING PROBLEM!

That is hilarious! Y'all should bring that pic out of retirement on some billboards for 2010.
  15. Sounds like a productive agency but, bleak outlook for the future. What does that say about our system? Education? Are pay scales that off the wall in this region(country)? How do you encourage and support a growing class of people to take steps to better themselves? Living on the West Side I think about this a lot. And I will be the first to admit that there is just as much if not more white trash as there is black "Moving In". Unfortunately, apartments and rental units within the area are so saturated that it's kind of becoming a burden on some of the better streets and neighborhoods with a higher owner occupied status. My street has gotten two new families within the last year from the Price Hill area. They both say they moved to Bridgetown for the Oak Hills schools. I don't have a problem with that but this is what many people would picture as the domino effect. Price Hill and Westwood folks wanting to move to Cheviot and Bridgetown. Cheviot and Bridgetown people in turn wanting to move to Harrison and Indiana. I know 9 families that have moved FARTHER WEST this past year because of the typical stereotype. I personally DO NOT believe the West Side is as bad as people and the media make it out to be but I am starting to feel outnumbered in that thought process.
  16. Well put!
  17. I think we have as much of a chance of Mike Brown coming to the table to be proactive AS an atheist has a chance at working in the Vatican. (FOGIVE ME FATHER!!)
  18. I just saw plans for the CW second building adjacent to the new existing one. It looks like it is going to be pretty sweet! It will match the first building but the layout looks a little different. The site plan references a third buiding in the future. It looks as if they will all kind of blend together with each other in one giant complex seperated by terraces. Onward East End!!!
  19. Toyota North American HQ in northern KY and a plant in Georgetown, Ford has Sharonville and Batavia (for now!) GM USED to make cars in Norwood eons ago. I remember as a kid parking lots of Camaros near the lateral. Alot of history in the Nati but not to many actual auto plants anymore. Honda is coming to Greensburg IN which may or may not fall in our region. (IMO, alot of natians will be working there so I count it.) Part of that "city-state of Cincinnatia" thing!
  20. "City-state of Greater Cincinnatia" i am still LMAO on this! To hell with the rest of the country!!!! That is great!
  21. I had a temp 2 mth job in Northside this last spring. I had never been in the cem either until I was told to check it out. AMAZING!!! I ended up eating lunch there almost everyday. I still can't get over how busy it is in there at noon with walkers, lunchgoers, visitors, etc. Not your typical (sometimes creepy) cemetery. The park like feeling it gives its visitors is an understatement. There is some historical story about the soldier at the main entrance. He was supposed to be placed downtown back in the 1800's as a war memorial but some opposed the idea. I will have to look it up later if nobody knows. One of the pics above shows the statue.
  22. You would have to watch that advertisement on empty storefronts. If anyone has been to where North Bend meets Harrison Ave in Cheviot, you will know what I mean. Tacky! The next thing you know Cashland and Elk & Elk got their mugs posted on the front of a building
  23. We may have a better shot at landing some form of light rail before this bridge gets off the ground. "The council is currently working with Congress on how to finance this $2 billion to $3 billion project." I HOPE I AM WRONG but I am seeing major corruption involved with this figure range. I know estimating is not an exact science. But on a project that started at 750 million and has slowly crept up to 3 Billion. I think some &#@holes are opening up swiss bank accounts in preparation of the start of this. Wouldn't you think they would have a +/- of a couple million depending on some snags along the way. (Land Acquisition, Const. Costs, etc.) I do love to watch government spend our money!! :whip:
  24. Well, worse case scenario. We could just replace the span with a ferry which in turn might force alot of former and wannabe bucks to move on back to the right side of the river, thus increasing the population of Hamilton Cty and the city. THIS IS A WIN WIN IDEA AS FAR AS OHIO IS CONCERNED!
