Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Overall, I am happy with the concept of using garages under the project which will double as the flood plain risers. I know we've already discussed this somewhere along the previous 149, but I want to share this for those who might be interested. I'm biased with what I'm about to say because I come from the rebar world, but I would've loved to have seen them use this project as a catalyst for stainless coated rebar instead of epoxy. Yes, it would've been 4 times more expensive, BUT it would last 100 years at least........possibly longer!?!?! My only fear is the floods may take their toll on the epoxy rather quickly.......... About $10 Billion is spent annually to directly remediate corrosion problems with our nation’s bridges, and indirect costs push that annual expenditure up by a factor of ten. Epoxy coated rebar has been the most widely used method for corrosion protection. The epoxy coating is intended to isolate the steel from the corrosive alkaline environment associated with the concrete. However, under certain conditions, the epoxy coating can actually accelerate the corrosion of the steel. The relatively weak physical bond between the epoxy and steel is not a sufficient barrier to attack by moisture. Furthermore, the epoxy coating is detrimental to the concrete-steel bond strength, thus requiring longer development lengths for epoxy coated rebar. edit: 2007 Missouri DOT http://library.modot.mo.gov/RDT/reports/Ri00027/or08011.pdf 2001 Missouri http://utc.mst.edu/research/R236.html 2001 South Dakota DOT http://www.state.sd.us/Applications/HR19ResearchProjects/Projects%5CSD2000_04.Final_Report.pdf

Another shooting coming to Cincy. 'Diners, Drive-ins and Dives' staff finds hot food in Cincinnati for Guy Fieri By John Kiesewetter • [email protected] • March 2, 2010 http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20100302/ENT11/303020053/ Food Network executives "have been excited to visit Cincinnati for quite some time," and not just because E.W. Scripps owned the channel until Scripps Networks Interactive was spun off in 2008, Page says. "It's a town with character and personality, which is exactly what we feature," Page says. "And where else could we find people who would think to put chili on spaghetti?"

Cincinnati: Gambling away history
I would hope that would not be the case, but I can tell you if this gets demolished it has the potential to reignite that sentiment. 1) Look at just the past few years with (westside) members of CMHA pushing for more subsidized housing out east after decades of concentrating them in Price Hill and Westwood. 2) And then we have the whole Westwood debating whether to secede from the city as well. 3) I think it was last year that a nursing home in Price Hill was raided a few times then shut down over poor living conditions. Again, the owner was from Indian Hill. There is NO DENYING that the westside gets the shaft more times than not, albeit by the city or the absentee landlords who live out east. It's very sad that our city is so divided, but all one has to do is look at history to see the writing on the wall. http://www.abandonedonline.net/index.php?catid=575 "If the Gamble house goes, Louise Nippert's legacy will be forever tainted west of I-75. West Siders have long memories. We will never forget how she was a champion of the arts with her millions, but gave nothing to save this historic house." -Reg Goolsby, who lives across the street from the Gamble estate

Volvo huh? Just fore warning ya, your not cool unless you drive a 90's S-10. They are about as plentiful as the dive bars and churches are over here. That's some amazing info that I was unaware of Jake. That's one hell of a missed opportunity for everyone west of Queensgate!

I've always dreamed of a streetcar loop running all the way up Glenway through Price Hill, Covedale, and Westwood to Bridgetown Rd then turning right meeting up with Harrison Ave and running that biotch all the way down through Cheviot, Fairmount and Historic Westwood. Each end would cross 8th street and the Western Hills Viaduct. North Bend and Rybolt would be perfect for Light Rail. I got stuck behind a bus today on North Bend and was pleasantly surprised to see how many people over there use Metro (I think it was an Xpress). I say run that all the way down parallel with 74 to Northside, the pick up the subway tunnels off 75. Next Stop Central Pkwy and Vine!!

um... I'll admit, she would look sexy with something similar to this scaled down to an elegant proportion! I'm not a fan of the different color lighting ideas. I don't even like when the "PNC" Tower changes colors. It currently is red. Certain Cincy buildings are breath taking enough under regular light. PNC is perfect. Carew could use some more accents. QCSII, we will see!!!! Call me old school!

3520 Harrison in Cheviot is currently under construction with what looks to be some type of new multi-story infill that is built out to the sidewalk. I will try and get some good pics when our mini ice age ends.
