Cincinnati Southern Railway
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cincinnati,_New_Orleans_and_Texas_Pacific_Railway Sell or keep city railroad? By Barry M. Horstman • [email protected] • August 14, 2009 http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090814/NEWS01/908150345/Sell+or+keep+city+railroad? With the city of Cincinnati trying to close a $28 million budget gap that could force police layoffs and other service cuts, the chance for City Hall to get its hands on more than $500 million seems, at first blush, an attractive option. Yet most City Council members are skeptical of a possible deal that could bring in that much money, or more, through the sale of the 140-year-old Cincinnati Southern Railway, the city's least-known asset - but long one of its most profitable.

Cincinnati: Western Hills: Development and News
Wow, I would assume the Buick and Saturn dealerships next to this are on their way out too!?!?! They will have empty surface parking lots out the ying yang in and around this part of Glenway. (Including Glenway Crossing) On a brighter note, the old rail line that all of this was originally built on is now becoming available again!!

I regretfully agree with that statement!

Green Township: Mercy Health West Hospital
I am glad they are placing it back on the property closest to the interstate! The whole increased traffic argument has been way overblown. That traffic has been there for years. The new interchange will help with that issue quite well.

Is it just me, or could this area resemble De Sales Corner if some new infill other than a Kroger building ever breaks ground? That Kroger did provide a jump start though! Here are the two churches that anchor each corner.

Arguments in Federal Court on Kentucky Speedway Case http://www.local12.com/news/local/story/Arguments-in-Federal-Court-on-Kentucky-Speedway/sZ5K4yhfBkunnvPYGBqjXg.cspx CINCINNATI (AP) - A federal appeals panel will consider an attempt to revive an antitrust lawsuit stemming from the Kentucky Speedway's desire for a top-tier NASCAR race. Three 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals judges in Cincinnati scheduled arguments from both sides Thursday. Owners of the speedway some 40 miles south of Cincinnati filed an antitrust action against NASCAR and the International Speedway Corp. But a judge ruled last year that they failed to prove there was any illegal monopoly.

He sings the city's praises, saying our downtown is "very urban and completely walkable," and the city is home to green spaces, parks, and lush hillsides. The magazine praises the push for a downtown Cincinnati streetcar line, a downtown bike-commuter complex, and the work done on the riverfront development known as the Banks. The article also mentions unique architecture, a plethora of independent restaurants, and the Oktoberfest celebration. Outside Magazine puts Colorado Springs at number one on it's list. Other cities mentioned in the top ten include Charlotte, Portland, Atlanta, and Boston.

Cheviot IGA closing by end of August By Kurt Backscheider • [email protected] • July 22, 2009 Peggy Sullivan said she's going to miss being involved in the Cheviot community and greeting her customers by their first names. She and her husband, Gary, who own the Cheviot IGA, have decided to close the neighborhood grocery store. "It's sad," said Mrs. Sullivan, who is also president of the Cheviot-Westwood Community Association. "It's sad for Cheviot, and I feel really sad for all of our longtime customers." She said she and her husband took over the remaining years of a 20-year lease on the grocery store nine years ago, but have decided not to renew the lease when it expires in October. De-Annexation News & Discussion
^That may be true. I don't know for sure. We can say 35k in Westwood and roughly 30-40k as a whole for Price Hill, Sayler Park, Fairmount, and Sedamsville. So 70-75k total at most??? (Picture and history of the 100 year old D3 headquarters) http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,17479.0.html

De-Annexation News & Discussion
Just to clear some of the fire and police issues up, Westwood has one firehouse that I'm aware of..and it sits less than a mile from Cheviots firehouse. That's it! Aside from any park land and the town hall which Cincy own. The police presence is the laughable matter in my opinion. Westwood, while housing the cities most populous neighborhood, relies on police services ran out of District 3 in Price Hill. (East Price Hill to be exact) The area under D3 is absolutely huge for only having one station and might I say pretty dense for 1st generation suburbs. What do other districts have in the way of stations? Does each district only have one?

Perhaps, gaining steam?? Westwood mulls seceding from city By Jane Prendergast • [email protected] • July 23, 2009 http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090723/NEWS01/907240307/Westwood+mulls+seceding+from+city Neighborhood activists in Westwood - the city's largest neighborhood, with 35,000 residents - are researching whether it's possible to secede from Cincinnati. Members of the Westwood Civic Association work hard for their neighborhood but don't feel they get enough response and help from the city, vice president Jim McNulty said this morning. De-Annexation News & Discussion
I got a chuckle out of this. Thoughts on Westwood secession http://communitypress.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/C2/20090718/VAV02/907180315/ Let me get this straight. For Westwood to secede from the city of Cincinnati, as proposed by some concerned citizens, would require 17,500 signatures and the approval of Cincinnati City Council and Hamilton County officials. That is a hard sell. Click on link for more information.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Eigth and State Your right! Let's leave those blocks and blocks of vacant buildings in OTR vacant. How will that mentality translate to extra taxes in city coffers???????? That is a very suburbanite republican thing to say! Get out of Cincy (for once) and go visit some city that has rail. You'll See and you may learn something in the process!!!! We are digging our own grave so long as this city depends entirely on automobiles!!!!!

Cincinnati: Western Bowl / General Custers
New Owner Saves West Side Landmark Western Bowl To Remain Open, Home To Tournament http://www.wlwt.com/sports/20079775/detail.html CINCINNATI -- A landmark bowling alley on the city's west side will change hands Friday, but Western Bowl will remain open. Its fate was in doubt earlier this year, but Larry Schmitt, of Nashville, has added the bowling alley to his chain called Strike and Spare. "This center is known throughout bowling from coast to coast," said Schmitt, who owned Reds minor league teams so valued by former owner Marge Schott that she gave him a 1990 World Series ring. "If it's working already we don't throw it aside, we keep the things that's working and add to it."
