Cincinnati Hospitals
Jewish purchase gives Mercy options By Cliff Peale, Cincinnati Enquirer | July 14, 2009 Spreading top-dollar oncology and joint-replacement services to the region's Mercy hospitals from their home at Jewish Hospital could be the ultimate indication that Mercy's $180 million purchase of Jewish has worked. Mercy already can absorb many of Jewish's finance and information-technology functions at its Blue Ash offices, perhaps adding more jobs. And adding the Jewish Hospital location just off Interstate 71 in Kenwood fills out its geographic lineup that already includes hospitals in Batavia, Anderson Township, Fairfield, Mount Airy and Westwood. But the real payoff will come if the niche programs that have defined Jewish Hospital filter to Mercy patients, said Jim May, president of Mercy Health Partners, after announcing the acquisition last week. "We're trying to keep people in their communities to get their care," May said in an interview. "Our mission is excellent patient care and Jewish does the same thing." Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I got to ride Charlotte's system this weekend. We took a round trip to the end of the line and back and I was able to snap a few crappy cell phone pics. I didn't see one single addict or person that felt threatening. The amount of construction in and around the line is absolutely insane and off the charts. They also had a bonus trolley for all you guys that have been talking about it. I was extremely impressed and hope the people of Cincy actually realize that this could be bigger than anything that the city has embarked on in the past 50-60 years.

It reminds me of the debate over redeveloping Fountain Square a few years ago. I truly believe that once the successes of the first line are realized, every neighborhood will then be clammering for their own extention.

Once a system is actually in place and creating Redevelopment, will these narrow minded clowns then realize! But they'd rather wait for gas to hit $4 again and THEN consider streetcars and or light rail after other cities are already up and running! The people of this region need to get their heads out of their &%$ and priorities straight because we are getting blown away by other cities half our size who actually appreciate how rail can transform a city. We have one of the largest collections of F500 companies. This SHOULD have been done in the 90's!!!

History Channel - "The Crumbling of America"
Set your DVR's fellas! This is very interesting doc!! Tuesday, June 23 01:00 AM Sunday, June 28 05:00 PM http://www.history.com/shows.do?action=detail&episodeId=452430 America's infrastructure is collapsing. Tens of thousands of bridges are structurally deficient or functionally obsolete. A third of the nation's highways are in poor or mediocre shape. Massively leaking water and sewage systems are creating health hazards and contaminating rivers and streams. Weakened and under-maintained levees and dams tower over communities and schools. And the power grid is increasingly maxed out, disrupting millions of lives and putting entire cities in the dark. The Crumbling of America explores these problems using expert interviews, on location shooting and computer generated animation to illustrate the kinds of infrastructure disasters that could be just around the bend.

Miscellaneous Ohio Political News
Library: Governor's budget would force branch closures http://www.wxix.com/Global/story.asp?S=10573274&nav=menu63_2 Posted: June 22, 2009 12:37 PM EDT Updated: June 22, 2009 02:28 PM EDT CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Hamilton County Library officials say Governor Ted Strickland's proposal of 50 percent in the Public Library Fund could cost the county up to 20 branches. The Public Library Fund is the primary source for public libraries in Ohio. Library officials say the cost to the Public Library of Cincinnati would be $6 million in 2009 and $12 million more in 2010. "Cuts of this size would be devastating," said Kim Fender, Executive Director of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County. "We are struggling to stay open with the cuts we have already made. If passed, as early as September this year, area residents could see up to 20 of our 40 branch libraries closed, dramatic reduction in Main Library hours, 250 additional Library jobs lost, computer access reduced by over 30%, fewer new materials available, elimination of services to residents of all ages, fewer children's programs, and less qualified staff to help." The governor's proposal must be approved by the Conference Committee of the Ohio Legislature, which is currently working out differences between the Senate and House budget bills. They have to complete their work by June 30.
