Cincinnati: Texting While Driving Ban
While going to lunch today, some co-workers and I spotted two cars where the driver was either texting or dialing. And we only went about a mile. Driving 75 everyday, I can say it is fairly easy to spot people who are being distracted by a cellular device. I'm not saying this to prove any of you guys wrong. airforce_jm, you may very well be good at concealing it and that's fine. I will say though, that the majority of the public has a hard enough time keeping their oversized SUV's and other 5000-7000 lbs. projectiles in their own lane without being distracted with other crap.

Cincinnati: Texting While Driving Ban
Absolutely false. I doubt many people text in areas with substantial traffic or while going high speeds or on dangerous/curvy terrain. When I text and drive I don't even look at the phone except a quick glance right before I send the message, and i usually wait for the right time. Usually I'll start a message at a red light, and if the light turns green before I'm done, ill just finish it and put the phone down. Seems pretty harmless to me... Personally, I think eating and driving is pretty dangerous, and I've seen women actually putting on makeup while driving, so I don't know why they are singling out texting. A 16 year old took out 4 motorcycles on Route 4 and Mulhouser last summer when she ran a RED light. While I don't know if they ever proved anything, it was rumored she mentioned originally that she was texting. My father worked with one of the most critically injured in the crash and he is still not back to work. It would be pretty easy to enforce. JUST BAN IT!! I was reading an article about a new devise that some groups are trying to get installed into new cars (or cars with teens) that disable cell phone service while the car is running. I gave up even answering the phone while driving when I almost hit a pedestrian that I didn't see. You can THINK your a pro at it but, unfortunately that one time you let your guard down and possibly cause harm/death to you or somebody else,..........well it will be too late then!!

Cincinnati: Western Bowl / General Custers
Western Bowl won't close Glenway Ave. landmark set to remain open under new ownership By Tom Ramstetter • [email protected] • April 21, 2009 http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090421/SPT/304210037 The familiar sound of crashing pins will continue on Glenway Avenue where West Siders have been bowling for five decades. Western Bowl had been set to close May 1, but after a furious couple of months of negotiations, the landmark will remain open under new ownership. “Right now we have a deal in the works with a gentleman that is going to keep it open as a bowling center,” said Russ Hoinke, son of 76-year-old owner Erv Hoinke.

Renovations are nearly complete on the third home the city purchased for $1 through a program offered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the city is getting ready to list the home at 3936 Glenmore Ave. on the market.

Cincinnati: Housing Market / Affordable Housing
CMHA came into this area the better part of 15 years ago and bought a handfull of homes. For the most part the tenants have kept these houses up (landscaped/decorated) better than MOST flat out rental properties in that area. The neighborhood has not fallen off of a cliff or gone down the path of Price Hill. It was less concentrated than what occurred in Price Hill and parts of Westwood over the decades. So in other words, it worked! I have no sympathy for these people whining in Mt. Lookout. First, they will NEVER see their neighborhood get as bad and go downhill as fast as what occurred in Price Hill throughout the 80's and 90's. This was an unregulated re-concentration of all public housing from one hood into another and it failed miserably.

Cincinnati: Housing Market / Affordable Housing
I assure you that their is still a large tax base on the westside as well!! The population is 200-250k people west of Queensgate to the Indiana line. This won't be the last you ever hear of this either. One way to have your voice heard is to get involved and that's what many western neighborhoods have done. You can't blame them for wanting to change local histories wrongdoings, that is unless you live in one of the neighborhoods in the crosshairs?

Mt. Lookout hearing on public housing By Gregory Korte • [email protected] • April 20, 2009 http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20090420/NEWS01/304200006/ Mowbray Lane in Mount Lookout is a quiet cul-de-sac of condominiums, two-family apartment buildings, single family homes worth more than $300,000 – and now, public housing. The Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority has purchased two apartment buildings on the street for low-income families. It’s part of an ongoing effort to disperse housing out of inner-city neighborhoods and into more middle-class neighborhoods.

Cincinnati: Does Covedale Really Exist?
There is another one near the intersection of Boudinot, Glenway, & Crookshank. I'm guessing some Price Hill Civic (mafia) association members are wanting to quell any possibility of an uprising to secede from P-Hill once and for all! It's pretty silly, and getting dangerously close to looking really gawdy.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Maybe we could get a Fosters operation to set up shop in the area like Sammy Adams. Bring back Morlein and and this Brewery District label could really take off. And by that, I mean the history is great and very cool, but it means soooo much more when we could have MULTIPLE active breweries still around! By the way, Who makes Boss Cox "Corrupt & Content"? Is it Barrelhouse?

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I see they have designed the large circles in certain parts of the garage walls similar to the ones you could see under the freedom center for all these years. Is their a certain purpose for these or are they purely trying to add an architectural element? Is this where they would have elevator/staircases?

Hell no! That number might already be closer to 140,000 or below since the beginning of the recession took hold. We would need to have a population explosion to get to 200,000. It's just not realistic! Agreed! We already have our icon, why mess with that, besides everybody in thier granny is going to have a cable stayed bridge before long. Woopee!

Bunning reveals new Brent Spence bridge plan Business Courier of Cincinnati - by Dan Monk Senior Staff Reporter http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2009/04/13/daily41.html A compromise plan for the Brent Spence Bridge replacement project will be announced next week, U.S. Senator Jim Bunning told business and government leaders who attended Wednesday’s annual meeting of the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments. Bunning said he was briefed on a plan recently that has the support of the departments of transportation in Kentucky and Ohio. After the meeting, Bunning said the plan involves the construction of a new span just west of the Brent Spence. It would have a four-lane highway that carries Interstate 75 traffic only.
