Ohio: GM, Ford, and Chrysler News & Info
Source: 12% Of GM Workers Accept Buyout $20,000 Offer, Plus $25,000 Toward A New Car, Taken By 7,500 (AP) About 7,500 General Motors Corp. workers have signed up to take buyout and early retirement incentives to leave the company, the automaker said Thursday. Also, Chrysler LLC said Thursday it would extend its offers to entice blue-collar workers to leave the company. The old deadline was Friday. At GM, about 12 percent of the company's U.S. hourly work force of 62,400 decided to leave, most through early retirement offers. GM offered $20,000 cash and a $25,000 voucher to buy a car to all of its hourly U.S. employees in an effort to further trim its blue-collar work force to match reduced sales. The deadline to decide was Tuesday, and many of the workers waited until the last minute to turn in their paperwork. The workers have seven days from the date they turn in the paperwork to rescind their decision, so many will have to decide by March 31. They will be connected, I'm sure. Their are already man doors that connect the south side of the Transit Center to the current parking lots. It would be silly NOT to connect them to the garages too.

Coal & Its Effects
Different spin on things! Turning toxic coal ash into bridges, buildings By Jim Kavanagh http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/03/20/recycled.coal.uses/index.html (CNN) -- Despite the destruction it caused in a massive spill near a Tennessee power plant in December, coal ash has found many uses that benefit industry and even the environment. A billion gallons of ash sludge, laced with toxic materials, spilled from a holding pond and fouled 300 acres and two rivers near the Tennessee Valley Authority's Kingston Fossil Plant on December 22.

We've had discussion in the previous 129 pages regarding your concern. Their has been a trend of turning older outdated office space into residential apt. and condos. Keep in mind that the vacancy rates for downtown Cincy is still lower (sometimes by alot) than most Rust Belt cities.

Youngstown: The Incredible Shrinking City
This isn't all about Y-town, but I didn't want to start a new thread. Unfortunately Dayton, Cleveland, and Toledo warrent some recognition by Mrs. Sherman as well. America's Eight Most Downsized Cities Bad Reputations, Limited Economies Prompt Residents to Leave These Cities By LAUREN SHERMAN Forbes.com March 25, 2009— In a way, it's the same old story: The Rust Belt, comprised of blue-collar cities where the manufacturing industry once dominated, can't seem to find a way to thrive. Take Pittsburgh. Despite the fact that the city's steel industry began to deteriorate all the way back in the 1970s, the city is still better known for its mills than for its $10.8 billion stake in the technology and life-science sectors, including companies like Bayer, BPL Global and Plextronics. Same goes for Buffalo, N.Y. Once a great producer of steel and automobiles, the city's bioinformatics research industry is now flourishing. Yet just like Pittsburgh, Buffalo is shedding population. ... More at: http://abcnews.go.com/Business/Economy/story?id=7161344&page=1

They could add foilage for cover, knock out some of the skylights and add ziplines to accommodate multilevel combat! Invite all the graffiti artist from Northside and Camp Washington to come in and just go to town to give it that "end of the world" anarchist/commie feel. This could work!

Coal & Its Effects
Some of the wording is straight from Shermans article above, but it's not word for word. I applaud the EPA on this one. Mountaintop mining projects put on hold Move comes after appeals court ruling that went against mine critics msnbc.com staff and news service reports http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29862781/ WASHINGTON - Dozens of mountaintop coal-mining permits are being put on hold until the projects’ impacts on streams and wetlands can be reviewed, the Environmental Protection Agency said Tuesday. Announced by EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson, the move targets a controversial practice by coal mining companies that blasts away whole peaks and sends mining waste into streams and wetlands. It does not apply to existing mines, but to requests for new permits, a number estimated to be as high as 200.

WOW! I didn't know Covington and Newport were even considering these resolutions. I know it doesn't mean much, but by alligning themselves with Cincy, it creates a unified basin. And that is a BIG DEAL!!!! I'm guessing a future Covington connection would have to use the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge?
