  1. Could the soon to be vacant SCPA building have any chance at housing a casino? (I may be off my rocker, being I've never stepped foot in this place and am not familiar with the layout.) Just thinking out loud here! I think Jake is right that a building at BC will look gaudy and out of place. Even though nothing would please me more than to see that sea of asphalt ripped up for something.

  6. not sure what you meant by that, but I'll take it as an insult!! Seriously, that area was referred to as the bottoms. Dude, lighten up! Are you not aware of what a "" symbolizes? I am well aware of what the history of this area is and I even posted that a page or two back..... If you want to take it as an insult, so be it. I'm not going to waste time on this thread explaining. Unbunch your panties and get on with your day!
  7. Alright, Roeblingville has been growing on me for the past few days! I might have to re-vote for it.

  9. Officials: Shut Down Facility That Released Girl's Killer http://www.wlwt.com/news/18900155/detail.html CINCINNATI -- City officials demanded the closure of a halfway house Tuesday after a former inmate was accused in the strangulation death of 13-year-old Esme Kenney. Anthony Kirkland remains held on $5 million bond on murder and seven other charges in connection with the Winton Wood teen's death and three other crimes over a 10-day period.
  10. The articles are saying he had possibly killed multiple times before Esme and was released. ???????????? I don't care what your individual views are on the jail issues around this city and country for that matter, this is every citizens worse nightmare!!!! I can GUARANTEE you that somebody is sitting in a jail downtown RIGHT NOW for a pot charge. Yet this monster is who the criminal system lets out. The loss of Esme's life is a waste of such a bright future! They are a shell of what they once were! Their negativity is what tuned me off and I KNOW I am not the only one. Kenwood can keep em and their is nothing that gives me more pleasure than knowing those clowns have to stare at that stalled Kenwood Towne Center EVERYDAY, while work continues in mass downtown. (Even though I am well aware of the Ports of Cincy's involvement) What comes around, goes around!!
  12. Report: Remaining Ohio payday lenders charging more Business Courier of Cincinnati - by Dan Monk Senior Staff Reporter http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2009/03/09/daily14.html Southwest Ohio has 87 fewer payday-lending stores than it did a year ago, but many of the stores still in business are charging consumers more for short-term loans than they did before Ohio capped interest rates at 28 percent. So concludes a new report on the state of the payday-lending industry in Ohio by the the Housing Research & Advocacy Center, a Cleveland-based group that’s calling for a new legislative crackdown on the industry. “Payday lenders have ignored the will of the legislature, the governor, and the people of Ohio, who voted overwhelmingly to cap the interest rate on short-term loans at 28 percent,” said Jeffrey Dillman, the center’s executive director and co-author of the report. “It is outrageous that payday lenders are now charging even higher rates for their products.”

  14. I'm hearing people complaining about turning Harrison Ave. through Cheviot into a four lane highway which would include doing away with the parking meters on the street. Does anyone have any more/better info on what may be on the horizon for this area? I believe this would be devastating to the small businesses in town if this were to be true!!!
  15. A little over a month old. A mighty wind: U.S. becomes top wind power producer http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/energy/environment/2009-02-03-wind-energy_N.htm BRUSSELS (AP) The United States now leads the world in wind power after boosting wind energy capacity by half last year, the Global Wind Energy Council says. The U.S. overtook Germany by building windmills that can generate 25 gigawatts of energy, about a fifth of all global wind power, it said Monday. Surging interest in renewable energy and worries about climate change propelled a 29% increase in wind power generation capacity across the world last year and fueled a wind turbine industry that was worth $47.5 billion in 2008, the council said. ......

It's pretty sad when you can predict what these guys are going to say about a particular subject (sometimes word for word), even though you yourself may not agree with that.

I got a chuckle out of this one! Perhaps even people across the nation are tired of the rediculous, negative, finatic right wing CRAP that comes across the airwaves anymore. I'll admit that I quit listening to them around December with no desire to go back. They might want to rethink their "It's only Entertainment" ideology!!!! No Longer As Big: WLW Radio Loses Satellite Status Reported by: Lance Barry Email: [email protected] Last Update: 11:51 am http://www.wcpo.com/news/local/story/No-Longer-As-Big-WLW-Radio-Loses-Satellite-Status/LegDRM-FLEy6MCfnyiq8Hw.cspx (Andy Lyons/Getty Images) The Cincinnati-based radio station known as the Big One, is no longer as big, as 700 WLW is not on XM radio anymore. The station's Web site does not give any further details on why they are no longer on XM other than to say that it is "due to circumstances beyond our control." Click on link for more information.

  21. Companies rethink coal plants http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/energy/environment/2009-03-08-coal_N.htm By Traci Watson, USA TODAY WASHINGTON — Even as demand for electricity rises, energy companies are delaying or scrapping plans for new coal-burning power plants because of the prospect of restrictions imposed by federal global warming legislation. Power use in the USA could grow 22% during the next 20 years, according to the Energy Department. To help keep the nation's laptops and TVs humming, dozens of new plants that burn coal — by far the nation's largest source of electricity — were in the works.

  24. Ironic! Wouldn't you say? Luster Fading From Last Gilded Age Store Closures May Mark End of Era of Rampant American Consumerism By JOHN HENDREN March 8, 2009 http://abcnews.go.com/Business/Technology/story?id=7033614&page=1 As Circuit City stores disappear from the American landscape -- the company shuttered more than 500 stores on Sunday -- some economists say the end of the chain could also signify the end of a free-spending consumer culture. Circuit City is the latest lesson in how supply and demand can fuel an economic spiral. It works like this. Easy credit leads to a housing boom ... and bust. Troubled banks offer less credit. Businesses that rely on credit to operate cut jobs. Worried workers put off buying big-screen TVs, iPods and computers. Sales slump. And, without the credit to see them through, once-successful chains close their doors for good. That puts more workers on the street and the cycle continues. ...
