Cincinnati September 2008
Man you damn right, I grew up in a pre war "home". No offense to anyone who lives or has built a new home, but they look like crap to me! Crap usually wrapped in plastic or vinyl!

Cincinnati: Green Township
^LOL! Yup. Thank god for the topography, the limited access (via interstates) , and the sewers that Jmeck speaks of!!! This is a mess, but it has been slow to develop unlike our neighbor townships north of the city. The 74 interchange has been there for what 40 or so years. It was all woods and hillsides 7-8 years ago. Obviously, that makes no difference now! The rest of the township and the bulk of the residential (first gen houses and the suburb/rural area out West Fork and Bridgetown.) has kept that small town feel to it. Those houses range from 200K plus. Bridgetown (more so) and Monfort Heights/White Oak are the "closest thing" to a walkable area of the township that many of us look for in a neighborhood. Most of these homes run from 100K to 200K. I live in Bridgetown but can walk to Cheviot or the Western Hills Plaza area (Westwood) in 10-15 minutes. The Oak Hills School District is the biggest asset and draw for about 75-80 percent of the township. 7 years in the states Excellent category. :wink2: Highlander 4 life!

Cincinnati: Westwood
I think Westwood has so much potential! I just wish the local media and even city council thought the same thing. I personally see 80% of Westwood still in good shape. The housing stock has been kept up for the most part. The McHenry Ave area has been the thorn in Westwood's side as far as the bad perception that everyone sees on the news. Westwood is a suburban neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. Westwood is Cincinnati's largest neighborhood, and the population of 35,730 makes it the most populous within Hamilton County (2000 Census). It is located north of Price Hill, west of Fairmount, and southwest of Mount Airy. Westwood was incorporated on September 14, 1868. It was originally established as a desirable residential neighborhood, included as part of the expansion to Cincinnati's growing inner-city population. Many of Cincinnati's wealthy industrialists built their homes in Westwood, including Procter & Gamble founder James Gamble. Westwood's main thoroughfares (specifically Harrison Avenue and Boudinot Avenue) feature many uniquely large and decorative houses, while surrounding streets include a mixture of apartment homes and housing, as constructed by the large number of German immigrants who settled in the Cincinnati vicinity. The area's growth continued steadily for many decades, becoming a residential haven for many of Cincinnati's blue-collar workers, and leading to additional development in the surrounding neighborhoods. The adjacent city of Cheviot, Ohio is also one of the oldest suburban communities in Hamilton County. Nearby Mount Airy Forest is Cincinnati's largest park, and is one of the largest municipal parks in the United States, encompassing approximately 1,470 acres of land. Westwood Towne Hall (Cincinnati Recreation Commision) More to come on the Westwood School renovation in 09. Back to the town hall. Cincinnati: Green Township
This is for you Jmeck & UncleRando!! Most of these pics were taken along the Harrison Ave which is one of Green's three main commercial/retail corridors. (Glenway, Harrison Ave, and North Bend) I would love to know how much has been spent for retaining walls near the 74 interchange. Included is some shots of the reconfiguration of Rybolt and the Holiday Inn Express remodel near I-74. (I personally think they did a great job bringing an old outdated piece of crap back to life at least.) Lowes opened in the spring and they are building a Huntington Bank nextdoor. One at the end is a shot of the new addition of the Cheviot Elementary School (CPS) http://www.greentwp.org/ Area - Total 27.9 sq mi (72.2 km²) - Land 27.9 sq mi (72.2 km²) - Water 0.0 sq mi (0.0 km²) Elevation [1] 892 ft (272 m) Population (2000) - Total 55,660 (This is now closer to 60,000.) - Density 1,997.3/sq mi (771.2/km²) Located in the west central part of the county, it borders the following townships and city: Colerain Township - north Cincinnati - east Delhi Township - south Miami Township - west Two cities occupy what was once part of Green Township: Cheviot in the east center, and Cincinnati, the county seat of Hamilton County, in the east and southeast. Nearly all of the remainder of the township is part of one of the following census-designated places: Bridgetown North, in the center Covedale, in the south Dent, in the northwest Mack North, in the west Mack South, in the southwest Monfort Heights East, in the east Monfort Heights South, in the center, between Bridgetown North and Montfort Heights East White Oak East, in the northeast White Oak West, in the north The township encompasses 27.9 sq mi (72.3 km²) of gently rolling hills above the Ohio river basin northwest of downtown Cincinnati. As of 1990, over 50% of the township's area has been was converted to urban use, largely as a suburb of Cincinnati; 38% is classed as forested, and 11% as farmland. The township was originally held intact by John Cleves Symmes, with the apparent intent of naming it as the academy township for his purchase. In 1802 a court order awarded half the township to one of his Miami Company investors, Elias Boudinot. This became part of the disputes over the entire Symmes Purchase. The township is named after Nathaniel Greene, General in the Revolutionary War. The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township clerk, who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the clerkship or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees. Try to Enjoy!! Manchester Plaza Built in the 60's or 70's but recladded within the past couple years. Never has had a good vacancy rate but is filled more now than in the past that I can remember. Legacy Place is supposed to be built across the street from this someday!!! We'll see! New Lowes opened in the spring. New Huntington Bank Get your barf bags ready! Beacon West. (respectable!) Huff Realtors. I hate this building. Reminds me too much of Union Center Blvd. Holiday Inn Express from Beacon West lot Got PARKING??????????????? This 3.2 mp does no justice for the shear size of this wall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! New Rybolt Rd reconfig. Believe me. This thing was alot worse and this IS a much welcomed update! This will be the view from the new Rybolt. More Rybolt!! New addition to Cheviot Elementary.

Cincinnati: Westwood: Western Hills Plaza redevelopment
^ Agree with you on that Jmeck! More proof of that in a moment. These are some updates on the remodel up at the Plaza! Includes new light pole, curb rehabilitation, paving, re-EAFing of existing structures, new signage at entrances, and the new Target. Marty's Plaza Barber Shop is a bonus!!! (Old Italian Barber who is a class act!) Been their forever and still holding on strong through the change!!

Cincinnati: Western Hills: Development and News
Newest rumor in the hood is that the Genway Crossing Biggs may be interested in jumping into the soon to be empty Target store in Westwood. I can't find anything on it yet, but I sure wouldn't doubt such a move due to the isolation off Glenway of their current position.

Rethinking Transport in the USA
This generation is going to get screwed in SOOOOOOO many ways throughout their lifetime!!!! And neither one of the candidates, Dem or Rep mentioned anything about transportation in the speeches. I hope it comes up in the debates, but I feel it will be just cheap talk on both sides. Anyone think the price drops of oil lately and the election in a couple months are coincidence?

D'oh! Slipped up! You got me. I always confuse Grand, Quebec, and Guerley for some reason. (They all three connect Glenway to Queen City.) I have just started exploring that part of Price Hill recently.

Cincinnati: Western Hills: Development and News
I am somewhat unclear about the Dunham Rec. Complex. I thought that is off Quebec Ave (edit: Guerley). I was under the impression this was happening at Oskamp off of Glenway. Miracle League Field Groundbreaking Scheduled for Sept. 16 Contributed By Michael Anderson | Cincinnati Reds The groundbreaking for the Miracle League field, located at the Dunham Recreation Complex in Western Hills, is scheduled for Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at 11 a.m. The field will provide children with disabilities a safe and permanent home for the Miracle League of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. The synthetic turf field is scheduled to be completed in April of 2009. Unique features of the complex will include covered dugouts, adjacent pavilion with handicap accessible restrooms and easy access to Dunham’s new Otto Armleder Memorial Regional Aquatic Complex. The Cincinnati Recreation Commission’s Adapted Baseball Program began in 1986. In the fall of 2004, the CRC’s Division of Therapeutic Recreation joined the Miracle League to become the first Miracle League of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Currently there are 200 Miracle League organizations across the country with 100 completed rubberized fields and 100 fields under construction. The Miracle League is proud to serve over 80,000 children and young adults with disabilities. The Miracle League operates under the belief that “every child deserves a chance to play baseball.” Representatives from the CRC, the Reds Community Fund and Rotary Club of Cincinnati in addition to local and regional government officials and community leaders will be speaking at the groundbreaking.
