  3. Cities’ plans offer models for solutions Business Courier of Cincinnati - by Lucy May Senior Staff Reporter http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2008/08/25/story2.html
  4. Vacant-buildings issue full of concerns Business Courier of Cincinnati - by Lucy May and Dan Monk The city of Cincinnati is facing questions from City Council and possibly a class-action lawsuit over its enforcement of vacant-building rules. Councilmember Laketa Cole, chairwoman of the Neighborhoods and Public Services Committee, has asked the city administration to update her committee on the city’s Vacated Building Maintenance Licenses ordinance and address concerns of uneven enforcement detailed in the Business Courier’s Aug. 15 special report “Empty Promise.” “I am disappointed that it’s not done equally and fairly across the board,” said Cole, who pushed to strengthen the ordinance with a 2006 amendment. “At the same time we’re trying to fight crime, we have to fight the vacant buildings, as well. And if we’re not doing it simultaneously, we’re fighting ourselves.” Read full article here: http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2008/08/25/story1.html
  5. What businesses are going to fill these warehouses in Monroe though, other than Home Depot's Rapid Deployment Center? I have another one on my desk that is going up down the road from Vandecar (west of 75) that is equal in size, yet no tenant on the plans. They will certainly have the buildings to house this many workers but, they seem to be missing the most crucial part. What companies??????
  6. Quick observation I made yesterday while I was at Cincy's Union Terminal to see the Bodies Exhibit. While in line for 45 min. to see the Omnimax show, we were stuck right next to the Amtrak entrance. They had Amtrak literature all over the terminal, but something that kinda surprised me was that the Amtrak area doesn't open until 11pm everynight. Now I know the Cardinal comes through at 3ish in the morning, but I was sort of disappointed because I immediately went up to the door when we got there and realized it was closed after pulling on the locked door. While we waited the 45 min to get in to watch the movie, I watched 14 other people walk up and do the same thing I did. While this is more of a rant, I just can't help but wonder about the thousands of people that have filed by that entrance for the past 6 months (with Bodies breaking every attendance record), and everyone seeing those doors locked like it was some sort of private museum or something. It was kinda disheartening because just one Amtrak representative there, could really make a difference in helping to change peoples stigma about rail in a town where the automobile has thrived to the point of......well you all know, like the rest of Ohio!! The people I was with discussed this the entire time we were standing there! I hope this 3-C plan moves ahead!!!!! I'm done now.
  7. ^That's be interesting to research what happens there if that be the case. Bond Hill locale too!

Cool. Yea, it's a westside thang fo sho! The biggest dfference from most other festivals we have is it resembles a county fair more than a festival. Through the months of June thru Aug. we have a festival somewhere just about every week. (With all the churches and schools over here.) This is pretty much the finale kicked off with the parade on Thurs. They begin lining Harrison Ave through Cheviot with lawn chairs about two days before the parade. It draws one hell of a crowd!!!
  12. awesome!

^Seriously? What part is your family from?
  14. That looks 100 times better than what is there currently!
  15. ^That's right! The park starts soon too!
  16. As I recall, the Sycamore Township officials were pretty adamantly opposed to the metro moves plan that would have taken rail to Kenwood Towne Center - hopefully they've all moved on since then and have been replaced by move open minded leaders. Ahh, the carpetbaggers in this town! I guess any form of public transportation will turn this oasis into something resembling the westside, right?? (I'm not directing this at you guys.) I still don't understand why people in this city (still) think that a bus line or Lt rail line leads to crime, poverty, and all that nonsense.... For god's sake it is the 21st century!!
  17. I have that uneasy feeling as well, but I do support roundabouts. Some of the clowns in this city have no idea what YIELD means now!!!

^Not if the region stays strong. We already have some of the cheapest housing and land in the country.
  20. Request for Noodles restaurant gets OK from NCC Wednesday, August 6, 2008 By JENNIFER NESBITT ThisWeek Staff Writer The Northland Community Council's development committee has granted its support for a variance that would allow a Noodles & Company restaurant to move to a vacant Hamilton Road property. The restaurant would occupy 3,000 square feet of a former Hollywood Video at the northwest corner of North Hamilton and Broadview roads, just north of Morse Road. The remaining 3,000 square feet of the building likely will house a fitness center, said attorney Jack Reynolds, who represented the property's owner, Ben Hale, before the NCC. Reynolds appeared before the committee last month with a request for a variance allowing a reduction in the required number of parking spaces for the property, but he said a variance allowing even fewer parking spaces is needed because Noodles & Company requires a patio with its corporate design. Under Columbus code, the patio will be enclosed, Reynolds said, because Noodles restaurants generally serve alcohol, though they do not feature bars. Constructing a patio outside the existing building will cause the loss of three spaces. MORE: http://www.thisweeknews.com/live/content/northland/stories/2008/08/06/0807nonoodles_ln.html
