Does this kind of thing have to pass the local community council meetings like many of the developments in OTR? I really feel like it would fail miserably if it did.

I heard from someone that Drees is trying to get final approval on 54 single family homes for the old streetcar construction lay down block south between Ezzard Charles & Clark. Being everything is pretty much nailed down in regards to the bid, I look for more of this type of speculation to comes forward the closer we get to the MLS announcement. This area is the one that has made the most sense all along. This is the first time I've seen the WCET block mentioned in print which seems interesting. I think the Stargel site was never actually on the table for these owners.

Two years ago I wasn't even close to being a soccer fan. I attended 12 or so games at Nippert over the past few years because it was close to the urban core. I clearly have a good time and the sport is growing on me but this move will probably loose me as a fan/customer. I know their may be 10 more people that step in to take my place, but I feel that the atmosphere of the past few years will be something we look back on years from now and talk about as the best of times. The rushing of this deal AFTER the election, political back door secrets, and Berding being associated with the original Bengals/Reds stadium deal are making people see FCC in a negative light where as the past few years they have been the darling of the city. If this isn't going to go in the basin between Clifton and the river, I'd be happy with just staying in the USL and Nippert.

How much could infrastructure upgrades cost to upgrade the Oakley location? Building or rebuilding typical interstate exits can range from 40 to 100 million depending on logistics of the area these days. I would think this location being near the Norwood Lateral/I-71 interchange could complicate this matter and push the taxpayer portion towards the higher end of things. Thats not counting road upgrades in and around Oakley. I kinda feel all the Newport/Oakley talk is meant to throw off the property owners of the West End or possible Queensgate sites. Infrastructure upgrades to either one of these sites would be minimal since you already have I-75 exits at Liberty, Ezzard Charles, and 7th from Southbound 75. Mehring and Freeman from eastbound 6th St Expressway. Northound has 5th, Linn, and Freeman off the 6th ST expressway. Winchell is largely the hardest to get to right now while Northbound but with I-75 revamp coming soon to this area I would think it wouldn't be to costly to add another offshoot somewhere around Ezzard Charles. (I haven't looked to see what ODOT has planned for this area in the near future) This could be the perfect catalyst to reconnect the original street grid and correct the 1960's crap that was built in Queensgate to make it more of a Banks type atmosphere west of 75.

I wouldn't think so either, but usually when a concrete structure is demo'ed it's pretty easy to spot the rebar sticking out everywhere. I didn't see any in the rubble of the East wall on the southbound side. I wish I'd have taken pictures.

The one thing that stands out to me is that those concrete walls didn't look to have any reinforcing in them at all. They were some extremely thick walls though.

Let's say getting up to the park is Phase One. How difficult would/could it be to connect it to somewhere near UC campus? Maybe run it in between Moerlein and Ohio and land it where the Shell station currently is?
