Section of Skywalk coming down THE ENQUIRER http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20080621/NEWS01/306210038/ The section of Skywalk over Fifth Street near Saks Fifth Avenue downtown will be demolished Monday. City officials said Fifth Street between Elm and Race streets will be closed from 6 and 11 p.m. while the skywalk is brought down. Detours will be posted. Access to businesses and hotels will be maintained, officials said. That section of Skywalk has not been in use for several years. The work should be completed by June 29.
  9. Once the streetcar is in place, I wonder if this could be used as another east to west connector (like Central). If Otr is booming in 5-10 years down the road like I hope, their will probably be a strong public demand for more lines downtown.

The delegation of city staff, neighborhood leaders and local developers will arrive in Nashville Thursday afternoon. Councilmember Roxanne Qualls organized the two-day trip so that Cincinnati leaders can see first-hand how Nashville has used form-based codes as an economic development tool to transform and revitalize its neighborhoods and downtown. “Form-based codes are a powerful tool that cities are using to create mixed-use, walkable, transit-friendly redevelopment, and Cincinnatians are eager to learn first-hand about how we can use them to transform our city and its neighborhoods,” Qualls said. ...

This comments on how city's with rail will survive and thrive in the next 20 years. http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?cl=8374760
  18. Yea, as you can see from Jmeck's map, most people live within the routes he points out. The I-74 route is pretty isolated from the heart of where most of the populous lives. It's not even close to being on the map above. The 2002 plan had it's flaws and I agree that most westsiders saw through this. I hope that any future rail albeit Streetcars or Lt. Rail throughout Western Hills stays near the main corridors. (Which I know will be difficult in the name of land acquisition, which is why I believe the map above nails what needs to be done.)
  19. That is a pretty cool angle!

  22. This will make alot of peoples day!!! Major Makeover Planned For Northside Corridor Last Update: 6:52 pm http://www.wcpo.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=89a77e6f-6dea-44f9-abbb-735d2f8d1acf Web produced by: Neil Relyea Northside is about to get a major makeover on land once slated for the Colerain Connector highway spur. Phase I involves turning the intersection of Colerain and Virginia avenues with West Fort Road into a "Gateway to Northside." Members of Cincinnati city council's economic development committee also heard plans for housing along Kirby Road at Ashtree Drive, plus a skate park and commercial developments. "It's like finally seeing something come to fruition that the neighborhood has wanted for some time, and that College Hill and Mount Airy have wanted as well," said Stephanie Sunderland, of the Northside Community Council, "because they use this corridor to get on I-74 just as much as we do." The corridor from I-74 and Colerain Avenue was once destined to be the Colerain Connector, but the neighborhood fought it and won a 30-year development battle.
