Cincinnati Bengals Discussion
^ I agree! For years I talked praise about how CJ wasn't like TO and many others with their on/off field distractions. I said " Oh, CJ just likes to have fun. What's wrong with that?" I am looking pretty silly now.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
11,000 people in Hamilton Cty, in section 8 according to Witte and the other CMHA guy that voted against the Banks deal, plus Mallory. ( I would love to see a map with WHERE these Sec 8 homes are located throughout the county.) Cunningham had them both on and in usual Cunningham style he made Witte sound like the one with common sense. Willie was dogging CHMA and basically saying that the Westside is a lost cause and that we should leave the concentration there and not spread the "disease" throughout the rest of the county. "Why let these people move into Hyde Park, Oakley, and Kenwood while we have them concentrated in Western Hills." What are we still living in the 80's and 90's with that ideology Willie? That kind of comment will only add fuel to the fire from most westsiders. Pure and Simple, Witte has accomplished what he set out to achieve and that is bringing Section 8 to the forefront of discussion again. He knows they are not going to be buying penthouses for any Sec 8 recipients. HE ALSO KNOWS AND SAID THAT THIS WILL NOT HOLD UP BANKS CONSTRUCTION because CMHA doesn't hold that kind of power.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Wouldn't want a public company making profits, now would we! Down with all corporations!!! No, just the ones that suck the life out of our economy. Big oil is the farthest thing from an honest "public company making profits". There profits are coming at the expense of middle and lower class America and NOW they are starting to effect every sector of industry across this country.

^Yea, BP says they have spent what, 10 billion in research for alternative fuels over the last 10 years. Congrats a$$holes, you pulled what, a 40 billion dollar proffit in the past three months. Anyway, I agree with you all that the downfall of Cincy wasn't single handedly from ending the streetcars service, but a perfect storm of sorts. You can bet we are going to pay for it now!!

CINCINNATI- UC Students Want to Pack Heat
Interesting stat, but of that 70% using those guns. Probably 98% of those folks SHOULDN'T even own or posses a firearm. MOST guns used in/for crimes in this country are not registered and are normally committed by somebody who couldn't even get a registered gun. So why in the world would I give my REGISTERED LEGAL guns up so some punk could bust in my house while I am standing there with my C.I.H. America may be going to hell, but it is not the result of the conceal and carry laws. It runs deeper than just guns in this country. Drug laws, Education, Economics and the breakdown of our inner cities and the families that inhabit them are where the problem lies. You can throw Personal Responsibility in there too!

Cincinnati Reds Discussion
Doc: Reds need a Wrigleyville BY PAUL DAUGHERTY | [email protected] On a 50-degree Tuesday night with the wind blowing 20 miles an hour, the Chicago Cubs played baseball in front of a full house at Wrigley Field. On a 60-degree Thursday afternoon in the full sunshine two weeks ago, the Cincinnati Reds worked before a crowd of 12,000. Thursday afternoon, the finale for the Reds in Chicago, the bleachers at Wrigley will fill like a suitcase on a trip overseas. Half the people packing the seats won’t know who wins. Or care. The following night in Cincinnati, the Reds will host the Milwaukee Brewers. If 25,000 show up, we’ll throw a parade. Cubs ownership might have lucked into mastering the biggest factor in drawing big baseball crowds now. Or they might have drawn up a detailed plan and executed it like an around-the-horn double play. Beats me. It doesn’t matter. Going to Wrigley is about seeing your Cubbies win, but only tangentially. It’s more about the neighborhood, the Old Style, the ivy, the bleachers, Waveland, Sheffield, celebs singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame, the day games, the sunshine, the lake, Harry Caray’s ghost, memories of Sammy and The Hawk and Ernie Banks. Let’s drink two. At least. Full story at http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20080416/COL03/304160086/

Public housing at The Banks: 'ill-timed' BY GREGORY KORTE | [email protected] http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20080416/NEWS01/304160049/ Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory angrily swatted down demands for public housing at The Banks Wednesday, saying it was ill-timed and counterproductive to affordable housing efforts in the region. “How dare they? How dare CMHA,” Mallory said testily, the day after the Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority voted to insist that the $1 billion riverfront development set aside a portion of the project for subsidized housing.

Innovative idea for emply storefronts
It's cool if they would promote C-land attractions and maybe even show some educational or historical clips, but I agree that we have way too many pop-ups in our daily life as it is. They could make this work, but limit the amount of advertisements.

Cincinnati: General Business & Economic News
Cincinnati Jim Beam plant toasts lean manufacturing Courier of Cincinnati - by Jon Newberry Staff Reporter http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2008/04/14/story11.html Cincinnati's history as a beer-making center is well documented and has been undergoing something of a revival lately, but while almost all of its large breweries are long gone, the city still ranks as a world leader in another alcoholic beverage category. National Distillers Products Co. began making John DeKuyper & Son cordials and flavored brandies in the mid-1940s at what was originally the Carthage Distilling Co. on Paddock Road. The facility - well, not that same facility - is still operating on the site, and the DeKuyper brand, including Peachtree, Sour Apple and Hot Damn! liqueurs, is the top-selling cordials line in the world. ...

Cincinnati Steps Map
Stairs Being Closed Along Columbia Parkway Permanently http://www.wcpo.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=af0cb235-2f78-4286-804e-917ee2719c1d Last Update: 4/15 6:52 pm Reported by: Jenell Walton Web produced by: Ian Preuth People driving along Columbia Parkway may have noticed work crews out there recently. The crews are permanently closing off a majority of the stairs and wall opening along the busy corridor. The city of Cincinnati said the changes are for the public's safety. The area used to have a parking lane, but now that is gone so pedestrians should not be in that section. The Ohio Department of Transportation is expected to have the work completed by November.

Housing at Banks now an issue Agency urges including subsidized apartments BY GREGORY KORTE | [email protected] http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20080416/NEWS01/804160369/ Cincinnati's public housing agency is insisting that the Banks development - the proposed $1 billion riverfront neighborhood to include shops, condos, apartments and offices - also include affordable housing. The Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority's board voted Tuesday to urge the city and county to set aside a portion of the new housing units - perhaps 10 percent - for Section 8 units or other subsidized, low-income housing. "This will become the 53rd neighborhood of the city of Cincinnati," said Pete Witte of West Price Hill, the housing commissioner who wrote the resolution. "It makes no sense to me that the city and the county would create what is in essence a brand new residential neighborhood but shut out low-income individuals from living there."

Newport, KY: SouthShore Condominiums
SouthShore reaches top BY SCOTT WARTMAN | [email protected] Work crews have reached the top floor of the 21-story condo tower in the SouthShore riverfront development. The first of two residential towers in the luxury Newport complex will have its "topping off" ceremony today after work crews have almost completed the building's superstructure. Forty of the condo tower's 69 units are sold. The shape of the buildings hint of a sail as homage to the Ohio River, said Adam Lavey, an associate with the Chicago-based architectural firm Pappageorge/Haymes, which designed the building.
