Study: Port Authority helps economy The Port of Cincinnati Development Authority released a report today that pegged its impact on the region’s economy at $1.4 billion, 6 percent higher than at the time of its last report in 2005. Port-financed projects are responsible for about 2,033 jobs per year and $74.5 million in annual household income to the region, according to the report, which was prepared by a team of University of Cincinnati economists. “We are all very proud of what we have been able to accomplish since 2001,” said Kim Satzger president of the Port Authority. “We collaborate with the city, county, developers and financial institutions to grow our local economy. “Through our collaborative and inclusive efforts, we will return $29.7 million directly to local government in new taxes collected, a return of nearly 7 to 1.” According to the report by the UC Economics Center for Education and Research, that return is a 60 percent increase over 2005 tax revenue of $18.6 million. The 6 percent increase is based on so-called multipliers that assume many of the dollars spent on port-related developments stay in the area and change hands repeatedly. Alot can happen between now and 2010. The economic situation we are in now will probably still be the buzz by the 2010 Census, plus throw in an always present "Oil Factor". (We could bee talking $5 oil by then.) I personally think these numbers are already in motion of reversing themselves. Just no group has nailed down how to gauge it effectively.

The Clifton Heights Community Urban Redevelopment Corp. said Wednesday it doesn't know how much its insurance proceeds will be, but it knows it is possible to rebuild the spires, and it plans to try. Matt Bourgeois, executive director, said the group is working with Chubb Insurance, which insured the property, to value the loss and determine how much work to do on the inside as it tries to find a tenant.

"Hamilton County Commission President Todd Portune describes the impact this way: "An Ikea isn't going to locate in an area they believe is hemorrhaging population," he said, referring to the home furnishings superstore that opened last week in Butler County's booming West Chester Township." Growth mirrors recent trends Hamilton Co. falls; the outskirts gain BY JESSICA BROWN | [email protected] Hamilton County lost nearly 5,000 people between 2006 and 2007 - the equivalent of the city of Silverton - according to census estimates released today. While the populations of surrounding counties swelled, Hamilton County lost more population than any other county in Ohio, except Cuyahoga, dropping to 842,369 people. The drop of 4,999 was the largest single-year dip since 1998, when the county lost 6,059 people. According to the estimates, Ohio's Butler, Warren and Clermont counties and Kentucky's Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties all gained population between 2006 and 2007.

Some rumors from some construction workers at the Plaza say that The Red Lobster is moving down to the old Glenway Dodge dealership while a new Olive Garden is going to be incorporated into the new Plaza where Red Lobster is currently. The Marathon Station is to come down as well within the coming months.

I would love to eventually see a large scale streetscape project in OTR. Burring all the utilities, adding bump-outs to all on street parking, creating a somewhat uniform sidewalk character, additional street-trees, nice lamps and streetsigns, ect. Feel ya on all that!

Question: Where are they opening The Container Store in Cincy? Is that going in with Crate and Barrel?

That could be alot of cool innovative spaces!!!! Do you think that church had the spire at one point that resembled St. Georges?

The developer, Western & Southern subsidiary Eagle Realty Group, and its architect Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum International Ltd., addressed board concerns over landscaping, friendliness to pedestrians, accessibility and lighting. The updated plan includes an additional 50 feet of retail along Fourth Street, a more open and accessible rotunda at the building's main entrance at the corner of Fourth and Sycamore, an outdoor dining area on the rotunda, expanded garage entrances, landscaping and additional retail along Sycamore and Third streets. A promenade and winter garden will sit inside the building along Sycamore Street.

A Banks official confirmed Monday that the garages, which will add 1,050 public parking spaces to the roughly 6,000 existing spaces on the riverfront, will be built first.

First 2 pics are of a new development (Hillsinger Properties) on Race Rd. next to Bridgetown Middle School. The rest are of the school itself along with the new annex built within the past couple years. Nothing special, but I will tell you these kids have it better than we had in the early 90's. "Hail beavers, onward Bridgetown.........Win this game today.......blah blah............ I can't even remember the fight song, but yes we were the Bridgetown Beavers THEN!!!!! Today they are Bobcats.

Agreed. There's nothing more I hate than noise barriers. They are an extra money spending measure and plus, I want to see the town I'm driving through, not look at concrete walls with pretty artwork on them. That's what the Art Museum is for. They are getting really bad with that up here in Dayton as well. I was up in The Big D this past weekend and got a first hand look at them as well. It is a shame!! No Ohio city is immune from these monstrosities!
