  1. I have drove by the housing development on the North end and its going to be a great addition to the area. This is a booming part of the city.
  2. Love the Intergenerational Community project and the University beginning to fill in the gap and develop the land between Schoonover Stadium and the campus. Lots of open space that way. I still wish the University would study an on campus football stadium. Renovations to Dix stadium just aren't worth it...period. SE corner of campus is perfect...I'm telling ya!!! GO FLASHES!!
  3. Johnstown...come on down, you're the next contestant on "next community to explode with growth"!! Good for Johnstown! I have a very distinct feeling that Johnstown is set to go through its biggest population boom in the next decade. Nice people in Johnstown!
  4. All great points, but for me, it’s not even about the topics per se, but how they are worded. There’s always so much code talk. “Green space” is coded language for buffer zone between us and those peasants from Newark. What “path” are New Albany and Newark taking that is so “concerning”. It’s not what they say sometimes, but how they say it. It reeks of elitism.
  5. Agree...what really disappoints me is that you can go back just a page or two, to when the "River Road" development was being discussed where Granville residents flooded a Newark council meeting and begged them to reconsider the proposal simply because Granville didn't want to address their school infrastructure...and low and behold, Newark Council listened and tabled the discussion. it was a Newark City issue and yet Newark listened to Granville citizens. Comments like these from these Granville Township candidates are why Newark should ALWAYS do whats in the best interests of Newark...ALWAYS!!! Simply put, Granville will NEVER do whats best for other Licking County communities like Newark, Heath, Pataskala, Alexandria or New Albany. They always have been and will always be ALLLLL about Granville. IMO, the rest of Licking County and its communities should move on without them and do everything they can to work together to continue making Licking County better and ready for the growth that is coming our way. Granville has made it abundantly clear...they do not want to be part of the solution. Lastly, i will say this...Granville loves to boast about being a "inclusive and welcoming" community and yet every piece of legislation and action they take is contrary to everything they claim to be. They aren't open to new business. They aren't open to new citizens. They aren't open to being a good neighbor in Central Ohio....it's time that the rest of Central Ohio starts treating Granville with deafening silence...the silence they deserve and so desperately want. Leave them out of every conversation when it comes to any type of development. Period.
  6. https://www.newarkadvocate.com/story/news/2021/10/26/granville-township-candidates-united-against-encroaching-development/6144944001/ I just don't understand why Granville is such a bad neighbor? They only look after themselves and yet when its time for other communities to do the same, they say "please, be a good neighbor to us and work with us"...just like the River Road Development that the City of Newark decided to put on the shelf so that poor little Granville could survive. Granville is the most anti-growth community in Central Ohio. Both economically and residentially. Why does Granville continually put the rest of Licking County and its communities at risk of losing jobs and development? Everything must revolve around Granville... "We’re right in the middle and (between New Albany and Newark). It causes me great concern. We need to have the resources to protect the open spaces or we run the risk of following down the path they are.” The same "path"? lololol And what "path" are we both on that that they are soooooo terrified of?
  7. Does anybody know what's the latest with the proposed arena they were going to build? I haven't heard anything on this in a while. Thanks!
  8. https://www.newarkadvocate.com/story/news/2021/10/14/home-construction-begins-soon-new-horns-hill-road-subdivision/8436571002/ Drove by this new housing development a few days ago...this is going to look great where its located. That whole area is beautiful. The rolling hills and elevation changes. Going to make for some great housing developments up on the North end of Newark. Can't wait to see the housing development on the West side of Newark too. Lots of changes happening.
  9. I don't have any studies. I fully understand that a line going from Columbus to Newark would only exist as part of a larger Columbus to Pittsburgh line. One can dream though. I will keep saying it, Licking County is where Delaware County was in 1990...the boom is upon us.
  10. I agree with that...the only way i could see it happening is Columbus to Pittsburgh with a stop in Newark. Maybe that would justify the cost? All i know is the rail line runs right through downtown Newark and has an incredible Train Station already there for use.
  11. Since the stadium opened, the "Triangle" has become more and more a PRIME piece of real estate. Look at how much open land that is. I desperately want to see a new vision for that piece of land emerge sooner rather than later. Astor Park is great, but "The Triangle" needs to become a central focus as well. Something spectacular should go there and be the "center" of the AD....maybe some form of observation tower? I dont know, all i know is that piece of land needs a great vision with people thinking outside of the box. Could be iconic if done right.
  12. A rail line connecting Columbus to Newark would be awesome....ONLY if it reduces time considerably however!! I am talking about making the trip 10 mins. Right now, its 18 mins from Newark to New Albany, so they would have to make a rail line that makes it so that it truly is the better option for many people. I just don't think any of the proposals out there do that.
  13. Awesome!! Kent's campus has really changed over the last 20 years...for the better!! As stated in my last post, these are investments...19.6 million must not be breaking the bank for the school.
  14. https://www.newarkadvocate.com/story/news/2021/09/30/port-authority-takes-closed-air-force-base-uncertainty-growth/5828186001/ Nice story about the former Newark Air Force Base and how it converted to Boeing and is now growing at the Central Ohio Aerospace and Technology Center. Most people in Central Ohio have no clue this is even here. It brings a lot of good paying jobs. I believe they are hiring a bunch of people currently!!
  15. I think SE Ohio needs to capitalize on the natural resources it has around it. They should go all in on tourism. SE is beautiful and is really underappreciated. This will be so good for the area...i would assume this is wedding friendly? I could see it becoming a big time wedding destination.
  16. The growth that is coming to Licking County is about to explode. Licking County is exactly where Delaware county was in 1990.
  17. Let me ask you, would you consider Columbus to be a nice city? it has awful neighborhoods too! Newark is just like Columbus, but on a smaller scale. Columbus has amazing places to live...and at the same time has bad areas. Newark is no different...so why the two distinctions? I wouldn't consider Columbus to be a run down city, nor do i consider Newark to be a run down city. Yes, there are rough areas, but i chalk that up to Newark being a lot bigger than what people on here think and suffering from the same issues many large cities in our country do. There are many nice areas of Newark. The North end and West end and many blocks of other areas are really nice as well. But to categorize Newark as a "Nope" when it comes to being a nice city is just false. There is a reason why people are moving here...i'd like to think its because Newark IS a good place to live. That's not "overselling" anything.
  18. To my last post about the newest development in Downtown Newark....this entire block of West Church has transformed over the last 5 years. Its quite remarkable. The area in Yellow is where the new project is under construction. It is going to be awesome!!! Before: (building was completely vacant) After: (building will be completely full with JUST opened condos upstairs) For anyone that is interested. The condos upstairs that just recently finished are AMAZING!!! https://newarklofts.com/ That is a great website to see all of the lofts that have been completely renovated the last 5 years or so.
  19. That is very well stated. I couldn't have said it better myself. All in all, the one thing i will say that is very encouraging...is the overall optimism within the city. You can feel the energy with the residents. There is a level of joy and optimism over the last 5 years that has been truly felt by everyone. Thanks for stating that the way i couldn't!!
  20. I will have to somehow get some construction pics of the new Owens Corning Distribution Center that is currently under construction. That place is MASSIVE!!!! It is going to completely transform the entire SW region of the Newark/Heath/Granville areas.
  21. Agree!! The entire area is really becoming a place that is nice to live.
  22. Newark is a great city. Like any big city, it has its problem spots, but Newark has such a unique downtown, amazing neighborhoods with character and truly has a lot of good, hard working people. Do yourself a favor, go downtown, have dinner at one of the many restaurants (highly recommend 1922 On The Square) and then go check out a concert or comedy show at The Midland Theater or Thirty One West. You wont be dissapointed.
  23. Wow...If its so "Nope!"...then why is it growing, investing and heading in such a positive direction? Sounds like you haven't really driven around the city lately, because if you did, you would know that many of the neighborhoods you mentioned, have improved or are in the process of being renewed. Sprawl is NOT always a bad thing either. I don't understand how the 5 housing developments being built right now are anything but good for the city of Newark? Newark is 100% going through a renaissance.
  24. This is absolutely fantastic what is going on in Newark. The owner of the building in the article (Tom Atha) has put so much money and work into renovating and restoring beautiful buildings in downtown Newark...its absolutely remarkable whats going on. This project will be located directly next to "Thirty One West" in Newark. It will be a mix-used development called "Newark Organization for Creative Arts"...or NOCA for short. It will specialize in all sorts of hands-on activities for local youth. Music classes, art classes, photoshop classes...while also running a classic vinyl record store with all kinds of merchandise from music artists. This is going to be a one of a kind space. These buildings are super cool and have amazing character. Cant wait to see this unfold.
  25. Ok, you are right, i am wrong....my goodness
