Licking County: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIn my honest opinion, what SWL and Licking Heights should be doing, is just being up front and honest about what the district needs in the future....and that's multiple high schools. Olentangy schools did that and they haven't had the issues that SWL and Licking Heights are having. Its inevitable that SWL and Licking Heights end up with multiple high schools in the next 10-20 years, so why not just be up front about it so nobody is shocked when it happens? Make a plan and prepare for it. SWL and Licking Heights still act like they are small schools. Just look at the fact that they play in the LCL with Division III, IV, V, VI and VII schools. Its time for those districts to accept what the reality is, that they are big schools in a high growth area. I have said it multiple times on here, SWL and Licking Heights are where Delaware county was 20 years ago. Hopefully those number are what they needed to see to understand what is coming so they can fully digest it and plan for it.

Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionNot to get too off subject, but Coleman was a mayor for ALL people too. He was truly truly a great mayor. Wish he was still leading the city. As for this bridge in particular, i would be all for it if it was scaled down in height just a touch. I actually don't mind any of the concepts, i just prefer the first bridge, but i love the Scarlet and Gray theme. Any chance the current Railroad bridge could be painted and brought back to life a bit too?

Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIf they had plans for this 10 years ago, then this should absolutely be a thing that's coming. I mean, they are building one for Astor Park, so this should be a no brainer if you ask me.

Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI personally like the bridge in the first set of 3 pics...the one shaped like an "S". To me that is the most clean and yet modern design. The others have a lot going on and distract from the sky line. I think the objective should be to be able to see the bridge and the skyline at the same time, without drawing too much attention from each other. In my opinion, the first bridge accomplishes that. The other concepts are just too high in height if you ask me. Just my opinion though...

Are they repurposing the structure on the other side of the bridge (right to the right of the tree)? The little concrete building at the end of Nationwide? Looks like its being renovated. Thanks!

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Why is there no route from Columbus to Pittsburgh? It's just a huge void in my opinion. There could even be a stop in Newark as an existing rail line goes right through the city.

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionOf course that's a knock...what else is it supposed to mean? Most people from Newark that have a brain and work hard for a living...we know exactly what that is supposed to infer. I would challenge you to actually go to Newark and explore. Newark has changed dramatically over the last decade. I know i may seem a little touchy about it, but i feel like its a fight worth having lol. "Progressing and Finally seeing development"??? Dirty little secret, Newark has been steadily growing for decades. Also, Newark has always been its own Micropolitan Area. Nobody from the Greater Newark Area thinks we are a "suburb" of Columbus. An exurb, yes, but suburb, no...at least not yet. Newark has its own "suburbs" if you will. I know that will drive the Columbus MSA folks absolutely batsh*t crazy, but its the truth. They only want "us" when it comes to MSA discussions. Anyway, this is why i am on this site, to give Newark its proper representation, because there is still clearly a lot of work and perception to be changed. Hopefully i am doing a good job at it, because i really truly honestly do want to shed this "VERY Eastern Ohio" image. BTW...just an FYI, I sincerely mean this, nobody i know or have ever met, that was raised in Newark, calls Newark...Nerk...None. Maybe Nork here and there, but i have literally never met anybody that flatly calls it Nerk. I have always found this fascinating...even as a kid i would ask my dad why this was a thing? Come back again soon, more changes are happening!

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Constructionhttps://www.newarkadvocate.com/get-access/?return=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.newarkadvocate.com%2Fstory%2Fnews%2F2021%2F05%2F13%2Fnewark-housing-subdivision-planned-cherry-valley-road%2F5047843001%2F Two more housing development projects have been announced in Newark. One will be on the West side, right by all of the other development we have been discussing, and the other development will be on the Licking Springs Trout Club golf course. The article also mentions the other new development in the North end, which will be right down the road from the Trout Club. It will be called "Conor's Pass". Don't know if i like that name, but i digress. So as of now, we have the 3 new subdivisions announced in the last few weeks. Would have been 4, if not for Granville residents throwing a hissy fit about Newark developing the land off of River road. Newark just keeps steadily growing and making progress. Good times! The area in Yellow is the newest housing development proposal. The area in Orange is the housing development that is currently on hold. LOTS of development going on in this area. Its booming to be quite honest.

Columbus Crew Discussion
IF...and that's a big IF....they needed a rebrand, they should have considered dropping the name Columbus all together instead of the name Crew. Crew City Crew City SC Crew 96 All are better than the Columbus SC rebrand.....f*cking gag me!!

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
I'll admit that what i am about to say has no real bones to it...yet...but here's a big ole back door knuckle curve into this conversation. What if...and this is a big "IF"...the Dolan family moves the Cleveland Indians to Nashville? The Indians lease with Progressive Field is up in 2023 I believe? Dolan is changing the name of the franchise and colors. He cut payroll from 143 million down to 21 million. Add in the fact that Nashville has an amazing stadium proposal in downtown Nashville and some fans are becoming a little concerned of a potential move. Again, IF that were to happen, would the Progressive Field site become an option for a new Cleveland Browns stadium? I'll go ahead and duck... lol

Licking County: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThis is great news!!! I wondered what the heck they were building there? This is a massive site!! In the Newark Thread, there was a discussion about the Thornwood Crossing/Thornwood Dr corridor. Lots of changes and progress happening in the Greater Newark Area: This is the piece of land this new Owens facility will be built on:

Columbus: Population Trends
True...BUT the good news is, is that there are tons of surface lots in downtown Columbus. As those lots gradually become redeveloped, hopefully the density will come. I wont say "never" happens. There is still plenty of time to change the standards.

This has been needed at the Sharon Valley Rd/Country Club Dr intersection for years!! Glad they are moving forward with this.

Columbus: Population Trends
I agree, Columbus is nowhere near built out. Just go look at Franklinton which is just beginning its transformation. The Scioto Peninsula development alone is going to bring how many people into Columbus? Also, Easton is getting ready to enter into a residential boom. They are talking multiple mid rise residential buildings around there too. Lastly...downtown Columbus isn't even close to being developed. Downtown just reached 10k residents right? In my opinion, 30-50k isn't unrealistic.
-
Columbus: Population Trends
Exactly!! The Census does provide yearly estimates and that's a pretty good snapshot of where population is happening vs not. I hope my city, the city of Newark gets in on a fraction of this outstanding 100k population, as its growing pretty steady right now. I would guess that a majority of this growth will be in Central Ohio region. There's just no overwhelming evidence to support that Cleveland or Cincinnati where underestimated by that much and grew by that much. That would actually be a really big failure of the Census Bureau if you ask me. BUT...having said that, i agree and hope that all 3C's are on the growth side of population. From an image and marketing standpoint, it would AWESOME for the state of Ohio to be able to say that Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati all gained population. Lets hope that's the case.

Central Ohio Technical College: Regional Campuses Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionYes, this building is very close to being finished and another nice building to the campus. This building not only changes the campus physically, but it fundamentally changes the from an education standpoint as COTC/OSUN will now be able to offer 2 more degrees, both in Manufacturing Engineering and Technology.
