Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionNo you're fine...but seriously, these same people cant have it both ways. They get to live within Newark City Limits and pay considerably less in taxes, but get to send their kids to Granville Exempted Village Schools. I don't know how these deals work, but it seems logical to me to think that if Park Trails and this newest housing development are within Newark City Limits, that they should go to Newark City Schools? I just don't understand how that works? I mean the reality is that people who live in Park Trails are in FACT Newark people...not Granville people. Makes absolutely no sense to me lol.

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Constructionhttps://www.newarkadvocate.com/story/news/2020/12/11/proposed-river-road-housing-development-would-add-322-homes-newark/6506434002/ A 322 unit subdivision is being proposed in Western Newark off of River Road. This area is exploding with growth. There is some very very nice topography where this subdivision will be built. This would be a great addition to the city of Newark. It would sit right next to the Park Trails Subdivision. Good to see Newark continuing to grow.

Kent / Kent State University: Development and News
The good ole Robin Hood. That bar was absolutely awesome. Spent so much time in there at Kent from 01'-02'. Shame they couldn't find a way to save it. At the time, I lived on Lincoln, about 6 houses down from the Robin Hood and next to the Chi Omega Sorority girls. Those were some fun days i must say. Go Flashes!!

Dublin: Bridge Park / Bridge Street District Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThanks for the vote of confidence!! Living in Newark, i can't tell you enough about how impressed i have been with the Downtown Revitalization Plan. Newark is seeing a major reawakening!! I think in both terms of infrastructure and mentally (community pride). One thing i will argue is that the urbanized core is small. Newark's downtown core isn't small at all...its just underdeveloped or in 50% of the case, in need of further reinvestment/renewal. Go look at my Newark Thread and look at the upcoming development in Downtown Newark. Newark and Dublin are the 2nd and 3rd biggest Central Ohio communities and both are doing great things! Whats the story with the Dublin Fieldhouse? Is that getting built or what? Thanks!!

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I don't understand the love for Mitchell. He literally almost cost us the game. Dropped a wiiiiiiide open pick 6 that a high school player could make and missed tackles galore on the go ahead TD drive for the Bengals. Feel like im taking crazy pills. He is at best a nickel DB. If...and that's a big IF...Greedy could ever stay healthy, Mitchell wouldn't be starting. He's just average....very very average.

The Tampa defense is pretty darn good too!

Cleveland Browns Discussion
We can score on the Raiders....i personally believe we can score on anybody, but the question will remain the same...can we score enough points to make up for our defense giving up 30+????? The Raiders are going to run and pass all over this pathetic defense. Jacobs will have a field day running. Carr will torch this secondary passing. If we lose, Monday morning, all the same people will still be talking about the offense. Its absolutely amazing this fan base doesn't understand where the biggest issues are? Baker could throw for 300+ yds and 5 more TDs Sunday, lose a close game 42-38 and this fan base would be calling for Baker's head. It's absolutely mind blowing that people don't realize its the defense. Defense defense defense!!!

Cleveland Browns Discussion
GEEEEEEZZZZ....See you guys are literally making my point for me. Here we are pissing and moaning about the offense and Baker/OBJ. The critical issues this team faces, do NOT reside on the offensive side of the football...for the love of god. When you score 200 points on the season thus far, yet have a -21 point differential, the problem squarely lies on the defensive side of the ball. I think the offense will be fine. One more game at home against the Raiders, then the Bye and then we get Chubb back. We may need to go pick up a serviceable WR, just for depth, but our focus needs to be on the defensive side of the ball. Period!! For the 100th time, you don't have to mortgage the future to bring in guys like Clay Matthews III, Earl Thomas or HaHa Clinton Dix. They are all Free Agents and could probably be had for very reasonable deals. If they produce, put in a team option for next year as well. Doing nothing is mortgaging the future if you ask me. Doing nothing tells the fan base this organization isn't serious. We are 5-2....the future is NOW!! Have a sense of urgency and make this defense better.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I think anything 9-7 or better is a success obviously, but we have enough on offense, if we just had a defense that was top 15-20th in the league, your view might be different? That's what i am saying....we need to be doing something about this defense. While everyone was pissing and moaning about our offense (because of 2 games)...they really missed THE biggest issue with the team...our absolutely horrendous defense. There's no silver lining. They aren't going to magically just get better. They lack the basic ability as currently constructed. AGAIN, the Browns have score at least 32 points in EVERY win, and yet still almost lost everyone of those games. The simple fact that this fan base is still debating about the offense....blows my mind. The offense is NOT the problem. Its the fact that this organization is doing NOTHING to address the fact that our defense is the worst defense we have put on the field since returning in 99'. Going out and bringing in the guys that i have mentioned already might be just enough to what we need to maybe...just maybe improve this defense enough to make a run. I'll say it again, doing nothing is dereliction of duty.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Not trying to disparage you, but anybody who says the "D is good", hasn't been watching the Browns. They have given up 221 points which is 31st in the NFL. The defense is absolutely atrocious. The Browns have scored at least 32 points in every win, and yet they've almost lost everyone of those games. That should be frightening to everyone. That puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the offense to have to score basically 40 points a game just to have a CHANCE to win. This defense needs more ability. Its not a scheme, or players just not "fitting"....its plain and simple ability. We have 2 players (Garrett and Ward) who would start on any relevant NFL franchise. We have probably 2-3 who would be in other rotations. We have 5-7 guys who would be practice squad players for other teams. What we lack more than ANYTHING on defense, is leadership. Garrett is just not a rah rah type of guy. We need somebody that takes over that side of the ball. Who do we have? Bringing in Super Bowl experienced guys like a Clay Matthews III or Earl Thomas bring instant credibility and leadership. The time is NOW....no more asking the fans to be "patient". I see our front office doing nothing as a dereliction of duty. Period.
-
Cleveland Browns Discussion
You cant tell me that Clay Matthews III wouldn't want to come here and give it one more shot. Playing in his daddy's jersey could light the fuel. Yea he's 34, but he can still give us something...if nothing else leadership. Hell he had 8 sacks last year for the Rams. The same thing can be said for Earl Thomas. Nobody on planet Earth can tell me he is worse than Sendejo. These are moves that wouldn't cost us anything and immediately make us better. Again, i cant for the life of me, understand why the Browns are bringing these guys in...even if just for the remainder of the year. Seem like no brainers to me.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I know we won, but its still glaringly obvious that we don't have enough on the defensive side of the ball to be taken seriously. This fan base is starving to become relevant...like really relevant. This defense is what...30th in the NFL. Come on, you should want better than that...we deserve better than that...especially because our offense is scoring 30+ points a game. When was the last time that happened? Your only obligation is to win...period. Our front office should be doing everything in their power to make this defense better before the trade deadline. The defense isn't good enough, It's just the reality we are facing.
-
Cleveland Browns Discussion
I need to hear from the Browns Front Office. This defense is simply atrocious. Its unacceptable to have to watch Andrew Sendejo every week. For the life of me, i don't understand why the Browns aren't trying to make some trades or even acquire some FA's that are available? This offense is scoring 38 points a game and yet we are barely winning because of how bad this defense is. I'm not asking for a top 5 defense at this point, but just a top 15-20 defense. Getting to that point would make the Browns really hard to beat. Go inquire about JJ Watt. He seems very dissatisfied being in Houston and has let it be known he isn't happy. I love the thought of Garrett and Watt opposite of each other. Also, i would inquire about LB'r CJ Mosely from the Jets. They are in obvious rebuilding mode. He's really good and he cant possibly be happy there. We need a Linebacker in the worst way possible. Lastly, go out and sign Clay Matthews Jr, Earl Thomas and HaHa Clinton-Dix out of free agency. It couldn't possibly hurt to bring these guys in for a 1 year deal with a team option. Adding those guys couldn't possibly make us worse. Literally nothing to lose at this point. Yet, the Browns front office seems completely content with trotting out Sendejo, Taki Taki, Mitchell, Elliot, Johnson etc...every freaking week. We are built to win now. Go out and make a few moves to show the fan base that we are serious about winning. Staying status quo on the defensive side of the ball is a losing formula and shouldn't be tolerated by a fan base that's dying for a winner. Do it!!!

Columbus: Downtown: Convention Center / North Market Area Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWait...so that's the finished product? Wow....that is the most half-assed parking garage i think i have ever seen. I literally thought that the mesh curtain was part of the construction as a safety thing. That's actually part of the design...totally unacceptable in my opinion. Come on Columbus, i get it, its just a parking garage, but we can do better than this! Disappointing!

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
I know they say capacity is 20,000, but this stadium just looks more like 15,000. Maybe it's because like you said, it's built partially underground and doesn't make an impact on the skyline. Not saying i don't like the stadium, in fact i think it looks really cool, just a little small.

Buckeye Lake: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI'm not sure, but if you look closely in the 3rd picture, you can see what looks to be Buckeye Lake in the background. Now this could just be me speculating, but i would think it would have to be somewhere right on the lake for this to be successful.

Buckeye Lake: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Constructionhttps://www.newarkadvocate.com/story/news/2020/10/08/buckeye-lake-backers-envision-crystal-clear-lagoon-regional-centerpiece/5871502002/ Whoaaaaa….this could be HUGE for the Buckeye Lake region. There's already been amazing upgrades and work done to Buckeye Lake, but this could be the catalyst for the explosion of growth that is set to descend upon the area in the next 5-10-15-20 years. I hope they can make this work!

Columbus: Downtown: AC Hotel - Park & Spruce
Awesome! I think this project, of all the projects in and around downtown Columbus over the years, has been the one project that has surpassed my expectations. Its truly turned out to be a very cool project, that actually has had more of an impact on the look and feel of the AD than i ever expected. The view of the AC coming in from the west in 670 is simply awesome. Couldn't be happier to be more wrong about this particular project. Cant wait to see the finished product.

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
I don't want to jump in and start an argument, but i don't even think this statement is entirely true. Even the "semi-rural" areas are growing and all of those particular areas have a strong connection with the culture of Columbus and Central Ohio. For instance, look at the exurbs like Newark, Delaware and Lancaster. All 3 of those cities are growing. Those 3 cities would be like Elyria or Lorain in terms of distance with Cleveland...or Middletown and Hamilton are with Cincinnati. Also, the "semi-rural" areas in between Columbus and the exurbs, for example Pataskala, Johnstown, London and Plain City for example are starting to blow up too. The entire Central Ohio region has the same pro-growth mentality that they share with the city of Columbus and the metro. That only exists because of a generally shared culture between all of the areas....Columbus, Suburbs, Exurbs and the Semi-rural. Just my two cents. Interesting conversation. Thanks for the view points!!

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAlso, here is another recently finished project in Downtown Newark. McKenna's Market opened a super cool corner store. The restoration in there has been amazing. The original ceilings and floors were salvaged. It has some really cool old fashioned niche items in there. Solid addition to the Square: They also renovated and created Loft Apartments on the 2nd and 3rd floors above the market...which look fantastic!! These are called The Lansing Building Lofts:

This is going to be spectacular when completed!!! Its long been vacant, but it has always had so much potential. With the momentum going on in Downtown Newark, this would be like pouring gas onto the fire. Cant wait for this to start taking shape. Just for reference, here are some pics of the current Newark Arcade: The entrance is the blue arcade sign. The Mini Mall to the left and the The Center Bar have both been closed and will become part of the new Arcade. Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Constructionif you are looking south of Granville and off of 37, there is a brand spanking new housing division that has been built with lots for sale. It looks like it will be a very nice place to live. The first 2 pics show you were that is. The other housing division i'm throwing in this post is just east of 37 in western Newark City (but Granville schools). This housing division sits on some absolutely amazing terrain.

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAlso, while i am online, i want to give a shout out to another downtown Newark establishment. If you are a Wine type of person, you need to check out Sand Hollow Speakeasy. This place has some pretty darn good Wine....they also have the most random amazing plate of 4 cheese nachos on Earth...its truly bizarre. Anyway, they are located just on the other side of the Bowling Alley in the above post, right across from the old historic jail. They are worth a stop.
