Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionFrom my sources, this company is locating here because of Intel. It will be built on the COATC right next to Boeing. Both companies utilize Clean Room space and technology. This could be one of the first companies to announce its locating here as a direct result of Intel locating here. What is interesting, is on the day of the announcement at Ohio State-Newark...John Husted said there were 30-35 companies at that time that were already in contact with the state of Ohio about moving here. That day, i believe he said Airgas, Air Products and Chemicals and Fischer Scientific were some of the early contacts...ALL three are also suppliers of Boeing. I have a feeling that the Licking County Port Authority could land a bunch of these suppliers looking to locate here. Keep an eye on this.

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI don’t have any proof of where the Sheetz in Heath is going, but I think my guess of the Staceys Location was right, as they tore the building down today. I would bet my money that’s where Sheetz will be building.

New Albany: New Albany International Business Park / Silicon Heartland
OhioFinest replied to aderwent's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI don't disagree with those points at all. Those are legit points. I think what these things do "do", is that it highlights Columbus as a legit place to do business. The "return", isn't the actual number of direct jobs at Facebook per se, but other companies wanting to locate here because of Facebook even being here in the first place. I hope that makes sense? Like Google and Intel...would they be here without Facebook? I'm sure there are many answers to that question, but there are also probably many truths to that.

Wow...this sucks. I was really looking forward to seeing this project move forward. I think this is a lost opportunity for Otterbein.

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
This!! If you are complaining about walking down Stadium Row and not enjoying the pre game experience...then you probably shouldn't be attending sporting events. The Walk is absolutely part of the experience. Just like walking to Huntington, Nationwide....OR Ohio Stadium. Having said that, i personally haven't met anybody that has complained about the walk. There will always be a few....

OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAnother GREAT addition to Downtown Newark... Salon On The Square The renovations for this location on the square are absolutely well done!!!! I have a feeling many women in Newark will be making appointments ASAP. Great to see people investing in places like this and thriving. Good luck to them. What a cool concept.

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionJust drove by this and the Fire crews were still there. Fortunately, this is the building being demolished, so this should not have an impact on the site redevelopment. If anything, this particular building might be coming down sooner, rather than later after this fire.

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI will be curious to see how the old Rockwell/Arvin Meritor location develops. I am assuming this is going to need EPA clean up, but this is a HUGE parcel of land and has easy access to 79, 16 and 70. You could EASILY fit a 800,000+ sq ft building here. It is right in the heart of the Newark/Heath area just waiting to be redeveloped.

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionDowntown Newark is maybe the best it has ever been...at least over the last 50 years...and more is coming! There are plans to build an entire new block of living east of 4th street, south of W Main St and west of 3rd st. It looks incredible!! I do think it is stalled as of right now, due to all the construction and a few other issues that popped up, but i do believe it is still on the agenda. 5 Years ago, there were 5 livable units downtown. As of today, there are 100 livable units with many more condo/apartments being refurbished. Complete and total 180. The areas that immediately surround downtown Newark are obviously the oldest and need the most work...BUT...these are the houses that have the old style architecture that are ripe for flipping. In fact, i am surprised that the powers that be in Columbus haven't caught on yet...i'm sure they will soon enough. Great opportunity for return on investment!! Here is the link for the Newark Development Partners plans for downtown: https://www.wedignewark.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Newark-Development-Partners_Annual-Report_2019.pdf And here is one other building that is in the process right now...pretty exciting times in Newark to be completely honest!! This is the area where all of this will be built. They have tore down a lot of buildings to make way for this. Its currently a large gravel parking lot.

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIf i had to make a best guess at where the new Sheetz will be going...id say the old Stacey's Buffet location at the corner of 30th street and the entry to the mall. Big lot and prime location. Its actually the only place i can think of thats big enough and prime enough in Heath. I cant think of anywhere else they could go?? #1 #2 location would be on Central Parkway behind Starbucks. That's all i can come up with.

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI often wonder when the city of Newark had the opportunity to annex Heath waaaaay back in the early 50s when it was a township i believe, into the city of Newark....why they decided not to? I mean, its fine the way it is, but imagine if everything you know as Heath today, was Newark City??? That would take Newark's population to close to 63,000 people. I wonder where this new Sheetz location will be? Sheetz requires fairly large parcels of land...trying to think of where that could be????

OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Constructionhttps://cm.newarkadvocate.com/offers-reg/?return=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.newarkadvocate.com%2Fstory%2Fnews%2F2022%2F04%2F14%2Fintel-impact-heath-sites-sought-housing-retail-manufacturing%2F7287913001%2F I know this isnt "technically Newark", but it might as well be. THIS is why Granville is changing course. It is coming folks!!! LOTS to unpack in that article!! Sounds like the Intel decision is already in full bloom in the Greater Newark Area. Residential, Retail AND Manufacturing!!!! -As noted earlier in the thread, BEHR will be building a state of the art manufacturing and distribution center in Heath by Boeing. -Old Navy is coming to Heath in the shopping center where the old Carnival Shoe and Party City used to be. -Sheetz has announced they are building a location in Heath, but haven't disclosed the location yet. -Dunkin Donuts is building in Heath as well, on 79, across from Hobby Lobby -Coughlin Hyundai plans a 5,000 sq ft addition to their location on 79 -Looks like a 100 acre housing development is close to being announced. (Area in Yellow) Casto plans to build on the old Knights Inn location that was demolished, consisting of 2 to 4 buildings, retail with recognizable brands and at least 1 restaurant. John Hinderer Honda has cleared all of the area north of its current location for an massive expansion of its dealership. I like this one...cleaning up that area to the north is going to be nice!! Southgate Corporation is building a 150,000 sq ft facility on International Dr in the Business Park...this one is very new to me!!! This one is very new as well...the Licking County Port Authority plans to build a brand new 330 acre Business Park west of Thornwood Dr and south of Seminary Rd.

OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAwesome, thanks for that info...lots of good information flowing this fine Friday morning!! If we can just get that abandoned gas station take care of, i think the whole look and feel would change dramatically...even if it was a new gas station...something!! lol

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI really want to stop in and see the new Three Tigers place...i have heard its a cool vibe so i am sure i will be in there soon. Ever since the tragedy of the Denison student who died walking home from the old Brew's/Donatos location, it seems like the flow in and out of there has declined big time. Hopefully something can settle in there and become a mainstay...that location is still prime!! Riddle me this...why is the entry way into Granville off of SR16 into Granville so neglected? I was glad the BBQ place opened up, but there are a couple of vacant properties that have been there for years? Why hasn't Granville put any effort into making the entry into Granville off of 16 like they do off of SR37? Lastly, i wouldn't mind seeing some Restaurant/Retail development pop up around the Thornwood Crossing area. There is land there, i just don't know if there is any interest at the moment? Maybe in the near future?

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionVery Interesting...thanks for that info! I know it may seem like i am "anti-Granville"...but i am actually not at all. In fact, i think they are in a unique position to help be the leader of the growth because of their schools. I am actually glad to see the 180 in thinking...it will benefit everyone...which ironically is what everyone has been saying for a long time. Granville should look at Dublin and Olentangy...and see how the major growth in those communities didn't hurt their schools. I trust Granville is responsible enough to figure this out. Granville being on board is key for the Newark/Heath/Garnville area.

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Constructionhttps://www.newarkadvocate.com/story/news/2022/04/07/granville-schools-study-capacity-enrollment-intel-preparation/7208712001/ Wow...i can't even believe this article lol. Now Granville is saying this "We do not want to be behind the growth. I don’t know that we can get in front of the growth, but at least we want to keep pace so that’s what we’re going to be trying to do in relationship to this project"...get the heck outta here with that. It is a FACT...a FACT...that Granville has been stonewalling housing divisions in West Newark City limits that are part of Granville Schools for years, specifically the River Rd developments. IF..and that's a HUGE if...Granville wanted to be "In front of the growth"...then why were they showing up at Newark City Council meetings and crying to stop any project that came up in those areas? What a ridiculous 180...simply put, Granville is about Granville and Granville only!! They were never serious about coming up with a plan for their schools. The rest of Licking County has been preparing for this kind of growth for over a decade, without the cooperation of Granville...and now the Intel announcement happens and they FINALLY realize that they are in the wrong and need a plan? Better late than never i suppose, as this should put Newark in the drivers seat when it comes to new housing developments in the west end of Newark. The city of Newark should immediately bring those housing division proposals back up for a vote. Newark should look out for Newark!!

OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Construction***UPDATE*** Pretty good video of the current site. https://www.growlickingcounty.org/strategic-sites/coatc-50-acres-tpzpp I was able to confirm that BEHR will be building their brand new state of the art facility just south of Boeing. They will use the available rail head on location. Breaking ground in 2Q of this year. Great for the area. Area in yellow...pretty big site!!

OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Constructionhttps://www.newarkadvocate.com/story/news/2022/03/30/sheetz-opens-newark-gas-station-convenience-store-north-21st-moull/7202862001/ The Sheetz in Newark officially opened. Attracted a long line and crowd due to the $2500 gas card they were giving out. Also, noted in the article, it mentions that Sheetz will be building a second location in Heath. Curious as to where that location will be?

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI saw yesterday in the Dispatch, where it looks like "BEHR" paint announced that they will be building a state of the art manufacturing and distribution center in Heath. My post from last week makes me wonder if they aren't the mystery company building on the above site??? Interesting how that is flying under the radar! Anybody know anything more about Behr moving to Heath?
