OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWow...that's interesting. I just wish The Longaberger Co was still in operation. That was a great place of manufacturing and business. Darn shame what happened to that company once Dave Longaberger died.

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionSo just an update...it seems as if the HUGE Owens Corning Facility is getting closer and closer to being finished. This building is turning out great. Now for some new buzz...i just got word that the Licking County Port Authority is ready to break ground on a new unannounced facility right next to Boeing. This is a very large sight. Land surveyors and tree trimming companies have been on this site for a few months now and it appears that earth moving is about to start. There is secrecy around this as of now....wonder if its related to intel? Maybe one of the 30-35 suppliers that Lt Gov Husted mentioned at the Intel press event a month or so ago? This lot can build well over a 1 mill sq ft facility. Keep your eyes and ears open... OCF is getting closer and closer to being finished. The area in yellow is where the new facility is getting ready to break ground. Here is the street view of the lot currently. This is going to be a big facility at the least. All of the trees on site have been cut down for access to the rail line that runs right through the property. You can see Boeing to the right and Samuel Strapping to the left.

Columbus: Cooper Stadium Redevelopment
I am glad there is some buzz about this again. This site is just wasting away. Something needs to be done with it. Like you said, i need to see more details first.

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionSo i took a drive up to the North end of the city of Newark over the weekend...holy smokes!!! The explosion of growth up there is taking off! The new housing divisions have houses being built everywhere. Connor's Pass...the newest housing development...is finished and there are already at least 8-10 houses under construction. Newark's population is about to boom!! I wouldn't be surprised if Newark doesn't reach 55-60k people by 2030. BTW...Stein Brewing is FANTASTIC!!! The food there was incredible!!! I am hearing some rumors of a couple other local spots moving downtown as well...keep your eyes and ears open!

New Albany: New Albany International Business Park / Silicon Heartland
OhioFinest replied to aderwent's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionYes, it's coming...however, i hope that the greater Newark area can really absorb and create a bridge between the Columbus-Newark area that is about to change. An Urban design with boundaries to the West/East..and suburban sprawl in between the two cities...that would be awesome!! One can dream...

Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus Downtown Tower II
I agree 100%!! In my view, i would love just one...just one...really tall/high profile skyscraper to be the focal point of downtown, just to break up the skyline that is all relatively the same height....then density all around it!!

OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionFrom everything i knew, all the lofts and apartments have assigned parking spaces already on the curbside. I dunno, i just think that spot needs cleaned up...even if its a parking lot.

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionActually, i believe i just read something about Denison taking this endeavor over to Columbus in the AD?? Anyway, yes, this block has filled in nicely!! On the subject of this area of Church St...what is the situation with the open grass area? I think that could become a very cool outdoor beer garden!! It wouldn't take a ton of money to accomplish. Obviously some clean up, some landscaping and outdoor furniture. The biggest thing would be possibly a stage for some live music. I think this could become a great outdoor summer spot. I don't know if the property is even for sale, but certainly, something needs to pop up there. Its a complete waste of open space and could really tie in with all of the development that's happening. This property...I would love to see this become an outdoor beer garden type of space. Strand some lights above the area, clean it up, put a nice outdoor bar with some music. Is there any plan for this space????

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionDowntown Newark will be welcoming "Stein Brewing Company" as its newest member to the family on 3/16. This is going to be a GREAT addition to the Church St Entertainment District. You can now walk from Moe's to Stein to Thirty One West to Turntable Kitchen all the way to NORCA!!!! The transformation of Downtown Newark and this area in particular has been incredible to witness. The apartments above all of them are also coming along nicely and will be welcomed loft style living. Never been so excited and optimistic about this city in my life. Come down and enjoy Stein and welcome them to Newark!! https://www.facebook.com/SteinBrewNewark/ Where the yellow ladder is...that is where Stein is located.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
OhioFinest replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThere really does need to be a "rising tide lifts all boats" approach to this. Hopefully, the Intel suppliers that build in the area will also be a success!! That's what i am really curious to see shake out...just how many indirect jobs this creates as well.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
OhioFinest replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionSpot on!! This cant be stated enough. Its already been happening. Case in point..on the street that i live on, there are 3 younger couples (late 20's early 30's) that have moved here. After getting to know them over the last 2 years, i have realized through conversation that they all have 1 thing in common...that they moved here because of the way cheaper and older housing stock. Newark has plenty of homes from mid century that are still in great shape and affordable. All 3 couples work in New Albany as it is. Two of the couples were from Westerville and one couple was from Grove City. They all wanted older housing (Grandview, Clintonville, etc) but it was just toooo expensive. Their realtors all made them aware of Newark and explained to them that it was actually only a 15-18 min drive from New Albany to Newark. Once they looked around Newark, they were floored when they found the exact style and size of home they wanted. The pricing sold them on the spot. Now, they all love living here. My one neighbor said it perfect...Newark/Heath/Granville has 3 of everything you need in life, and that's exactly right. I couldn't be more serious about what i'm about to say...Newark would be a GREAT location for one of those HGTV/DIY Network home renovation shows lol. The housing stock here is perfect and unlike any other of the shows they have. Anyway, the buzz around the area about the growth that is coming has been received very well from all conversations i have had. People around here understand we are living in a new era of Newark...a rebirth! Even if we just get 1-3% of that growth...it would be awesome for Newark!!

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAgree 100%...plus with King being bordered by cornfields...the city could easily widen King to include turn lanes and such without having to take any land from home owners. Many people are simply amazed that the city hasn't addressed these issues...at all. There have been a few articles about it, but nothing serious...which blows my mind. Like i said, the time is NOW!! I would LOVE to see a badass stand alone Movie Cinema in that Yellow retail area somewhere, with some out lots for restaurants etc. North Newark has nothing like that for entertainment. Would be awesome!!

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI am actually glad you brought that up (Land behind Walmart). I have had many discussions with hundreds of people over the last decade about that MASSIVE piece of prime real estate... our city needs to address this again!! Listen, i understand that NASA uses it for soccer. I get its pluses for the city. But i am just being honest, the Pros of developing this piece of land FAR outweigh the Pros of keeping it undeveloped and as a soccer complex. I hate that because i LOVE sports, but this is simply the worst place for NASA to call home. With the growth that has already happened in Newark over the past 20 years, everybody knows 21st street has become majorly overcrowded. It gives me a headache just thinking about it. With the growth that we all know is coming...NOW is the time!! The city of Newark needs to extend Baker Boulevard from 21st all the way to King. Period. With the Round-a-bout at Sharon Valley and Country Club now open, this will help alleviate congestion on 21st significantly This needs to happen. Extending Baker Boulevard would also open up and unlock the most significant piece of land within Newark City Limits for the Residential and Economic development we KNOW is coming!! This is something that the Planning Commission and City Council need to shift their attention to immediately. Another Pro, this would also provide for another way into Liberty and Legend Schools. Currently, there is only one way in and one way out. This would help with school traffic. Actually, this might be one of the most frustrating issues for Newark Citizens. Again, i say this as somebody who has spoken to TONS of Newark people about this very topic. We all agree that this needs to happen and would be good for the community. Black Lines = New Roadways Green = New Residential Yellow = Retail Orange = Mixed Use Again...this PRIME piece of real estate needs an urgent refocus and development plan. People are just waiting for Newark to put something together. The status quo has run its course and the growth in the area has made this a pressing issue moving forward. This gives Newark new area for much needed Residential AND Economic growth. This is something that truly needs to be examined by the City of Newark.

Newark: Developments and News
OhioFinest replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThats what i was thinking. If you look at the city boundries...that area/land is ripe for a really nice housing division. Like you said, that area is a really nice piece of land topography wise. I imagine there could/will be a really nice housing division here at some point. Very nice area that is probably about to grow as well.

This will be on the North side of River Road. The article also mentions that Fox Run Apartments will break ground for phase II of development. This complex is on the far North end of Newark. Two more developments about to get underway!! The new Rockford Homes Development will go in the yellow 60 acre plot of land. Fox Run Apartments is also adding 60 additional units. Where this will be built is going to be interesting as the article doesn't mention where specifically this will be built?? I don't see the space on the current lot except for maaaaybe in the back...I wonder if this will be across the street?

OhioFinest replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThat is freaking amazing...Thanks for the screenshot of that!!! New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
OhioFinest replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWhen you stop and think about Licking County, it’s incredible the amount of high profile large facilities it has...Owens Corning + Owens Corning R&D, Boeing, Facebook, Amazon, Google, Carvana, Dow Chemical, Fanatics...pretty freaking remarkable if you asks me. I also think about developments like Ohio State-Newark just finishing a brand new state of the art STEM building on campus. These things just seem so connected now!! That’s going to pay off big time for Intel and the Newark area. It can recruit employees not just from Ohio St main campus, but from its Newark Campus too!
