OhioHealth plans to close part of 6th Street downtown as part of Grant Medical Center expansion “OhioHealth wants to permanently close part of 6th Street in downtown Columbus to support its expansion of Grant Medical Center. The Downtown Commission approved a request from OhioHealth to endorse the road closure from Chapel to Town streets before it goes to the Land Commission. The health system will still come back to the Downtown Commission for approval of its final project design. Closing that part of 6th Street would allow OhioHealth to connect the new critical care pavilion to the existing hospital building. Looks like they made it to the meeting today: Cleveland developer wants to tear down several downtown buildings to put up a 15-story tower “The fate of several downtown historic buildings remains in limbo after a Cleveland developer presented plans to preserve one and raze others. Cleveland-based firm Harsax Management Co. showed the Downtown Commission its plans for redeveloping the corner of Town and High Street, centering its project on restoring the old Ohio National Bank building. Harsax CEO Randall Sacks told the Downtown Commission that he envisions the bank building becoming a food court or a bar with the lower-level vaults becoming a restaurant, nightclub or some other retail use. Harsax originally asked that the commission vote on whether they could demolish the buildings from 171-191 S. High, but the two groups tabled that discussion.   7. In my dream world, the remainder of this parking lot gets converted to green space, and it can be used for academic expansion in the future, if needed. The lots between Spring and Long get filled in with 7+ story MF, retail, office and green space. And if additional parking is needed, the lots that border 71 get converted to structured parking. I might be waiting awhile for this, though…lol

Italian paper company Sofidel announces $185 million expansion of Circleville plant “The Italian paper company Sofidel on Monday announced a $185 million expansion of its plant just south of Circleville that could add 100 jobs. “Our success has been Ohio’s success, and I appreciate the ongoing partnership with Pickaway County, the city of Circleville, One Columbus, and JobsOhio to help make it happen,” Sofidel CEO Luigi Lazzareschi said in a statement. “The demand for our products is only outweighed by the immeasurable dedication and hard work of our employees, and we’re excited to expand our footprint in the Columbus region.” The 1.8-million-square-foot plant, located on Route 23, opened in 2018, employing 300 workers. Since then, the workforce has increased to 500. Sofidel says it will add 500,000 square feet to the plant as part of the expansion. Columbus council approves more than $11.8M to design fourth water plant to improve capacity “The planned $20 billion Intel plants in New Albany in Licking County and other development have accelerated a years-long plan by the city of Columbus to add a fourth water treatment plant for the city and the suburbs which it provides water. Columbus City Council on Monday approved spending $11,838,000 to pay Columbus-based engineering firm Hazen and Sawyer to design the new plant, which is likely to cost more than $100 million to build and expected to be up and running by 2028 or 2029. The city had been planning to add the fourth water treatment plant since it bought land for it in 2015, but it has begun to accelerate plans for the plant due to Intel and population growth in areas of the city and particularly the suburbs in adjacent Delaware County, said Director of Public Utilities Kristen Atha. A bit of a surprise City Council voted this one down: Rejection of apartment complex on Far East Side among actions by Columbus City Council “Columbus City Council voted 5-2 on Monday to reject rezoning property along McNaughten Road on the Far East Side for a proposed apartment complex after the council’s zoning committee heard arguments from those in favor and opposed to the project. Metro Development LLC applied to rezone about eight acres of land at 1555 McNaughten Road in hopes of building up to 126 apartment units on the site, a mix of wooded and open land located on the west side of McNaughten Road between East Livingston Avenue and East Main Street. Council member Rob Dorans said the application has been pending for about six months. He said the zoning code in Columbus is outdated and the land in question hasn’t changed since the 1950s.   13. When I lived there, I was over the east courtyard (overlooked Roosevelt and Tafts), so close, but not closest. One of my friends is in one that is right next to the tracks. I’ve never heard him complain about the noise, but I’ll ask him next time I see him.
  14. Hopefully there’s some decent sound proofing. When I first moved into Gravity, I was worried about the noise with it being right next to the tracks, but it ended up barely being noticeable inside.

  19. Would make sense—there was a rumor a while back about them expanding in Cbus, and Kaufman did say the ground floor would be taken up be one tenant. It’d make a nice addition to the area for sure

The Cleveland-based commercial real estate firm and the Missouri-based general contractor recently broke ground on a 207,000-square-foot speculative building at 885 Stelzer Road. The site is directly across from the airport in east Columbus. Delivery of the spec industrial facility is expected in the fourth quarter, according to a press release. “Weston is very excited to expand our footprint in the Central Ohio market," T.J. That 102-unit project will break ground in August and likely wrap up later this year, DeHays said. Things like the elevator shaft, gym and patio will all be built on site, but the rest of the building is being fabricated in the factory right now and will arrive in the Near East Side on a truck sometime this fall.
