  1. Columbus tiny home village eyes summer groundbreaking, hopes to replicate model elsewhere “Vista Village – a tiny home community designed to help people experiencing homelessness – could start construction this summer. Plans for the community include 41 420-square-foot homes, a community center and a 2-acre park. It's slated for a 15-acre site south of Refugee Road and west of Hamilton Road, at 3791 Soldier St. EMH&T is doing final site work now, said Harvey Hook, chief engagement officer for Vista Village. Modular homebuilder Unibilt will build the homes. Construction is expected to take about a year. Residents, who will be brought in as homes are completed, won't pay traditional rent. Instead they'll pay a "program participant fee," only starting after they are employed. The fee will be capped at $350 a month.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2023/05/02/tiny-homes-columbus-housing-groundbreaking.html
  2. In anticipation of new apartment development? Rice Bowl, longtime Chinese restaurant on Columbus' south side, to close “A longtime Columbus Chinese restaurant is in its last month of business. The Rice Bowl restaurant at 2300 S. High St., a fixture in south Columbus for 64 years, announced that it will close at the end of May. “We appreciate your patronage over the years and want to thank you for your continued support,” the restaurant posted on Facebook. “It has been an honor to serve you, and we will always cherish the memories we have made with our customers." Over the next few weeks, carryout will be available Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The restaurant is open for dine-in business Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2023/05/02/rice-bowl-on-columbus-south-side-is-closing.html
  3. Newly completed Rickenbacker-area warehouse represents first phase of Rickenbacker Industrial Center project “A 1 million-square-foot warehouse has been completed at a new industrial park near Rickenbacker International Airport. Developers Trident Capital Group and The O'Connor Group constructed the industrial building on 60 acres at the intersection of Rohr Road and Lockbourne Road. The warehouse features 40-foot clear height, 104 docks, four drive-in doors, a 347-space parking lot and 9,827 square feet of office space split between two different office suites. The property is located in an opportunity zone in the Rickenbacker submarket. It is near Rickenbacker International Airport and Norfolk Southern Intermodal Yard, and is in proximity to Interstate 270 and U.S. 23. The facility represents the first phase of a multi-building, master-planned development called Rickenbacker Industrial Center. The scope of the project is 3.67 million square feet of industrial space on 230 acres.“ https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2023/05/01/rickenbacker-industrial-center-phase-one-complete.html
  4. First two buildings at New Albany's $400M Silicon Heartland Innovation Park nearing completion “The first two buildings under construction at a massive industrial park and data center campus in New Albany are nearing completion, and more are likely on the way. Building 1 and Building 10 at Silicon Heartland Innovation Park will be complete by June 1, JLL Senior Managing Director Brian Marsh told me during a recent tour of the site. Building 1 measures more than 448,000 square feet and is expandable up to 1 million square feet, while Building 10 is just over 177,000 square feet. Nearly 51,000 square feet of end cap space has already been leased at Building 10, leaving about 126,000 square feet available. Marsh said the company leasing the end cap space is not ready to go public, but he said they expect to make an announcement within the next two months. No tenants have been signed for Building 1 or the remaining space in Building 10, but Marsh said JLL is seeing "a lot of good activity" when asked about interest for both sites. These two facilities encompass the first phase of the $400 million project, which could eventually grow into a seven-building, 2 million-square-foot complex featuring both an industrial park and data center campus. The buildings that will be completed in June are considered part of the industrial park, and additional land that is currently being graded will become the Silicon Heartland Data Center Campus.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2023/05/01/silicon-heartland-innovation-park-new-albany.html
  5. They do, but those are always too packed for my liking lol
  6. I didn’t notice any of the white tents up today. Wonder if the exhumation phase is complete 🤔
  7. Some renderings of the proposed garage expansion were released. Looks like it’ll be about 780 spaces.
  8. Sounds like you’re talking about the one for Mount Carmel’s new Dublin hospital
  9. Amy Taylor from CDDC still being a tease: ”Plans were announced for a 30-story office and residential tower on the corner of W. Broad and Belle streets in a $211 million second phase. Originally expected to start in 2022, the tower is now on hold, in the hopes of receiving a $21 million state tax credit. "We're still in discussions with the developers and hope to have an announcement soon," Taylor said.” https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2023/04/28/junto-hotel-the-heart-of-franklintons-250-million-peninsula-project/70129898007/
  10. That’s a LOT of units! I hope they’re successful filling them up. They should be able to price them fairly reasonably too.
  11. You’d recommend? I’ve wanted to try it, but I’ve always chickened out 😂 I love the meatball one tho
  12. I don’t think this one’s been posted yet. Another proposal from Metro Dev on ~36 acres at 795 Galloway Road that would be annexed from Prairie Township with 552 units and commercial space.

Another unintended consequence of WFH, fewer corporate volunteers: ”Many of United Way’s volunteers are retirees who felt, or still feel, uncomfortable being out and about. Perhaps a bigger problem, though, is that United Way relies on groups of corporate volunteers. “What I attribute to the shift in working from home and hybrid and remote work schedules have made it more difficult to engage some of the corporate groups that previously really provided robust support to some of these organizations,” Birchard said. Worthington Resource Pantry Director Christa Passafiume also noticed a big drop in corporate volunteers. The pantry that serves eight zip codes in northern Franklin and southern Delaware counties, however, never suffered from lack of help.” https://news.wosu.org/2023-04-27/central-ohio-nonprofits-say-volunteers-are-coming-back-after-significant-decrease-during-pandemic
  14. Over the last couple weeks, a lot of brush/tree clearing work has been going on on Chambers (who knew there was another building hiding behind it all!). I wonder if we could see this mixed use project started this year (or, at least, demo of the existing buildings)?
  15. Second phase of the Shiloh Baptist apartments on Hamilton is going up pretty quickly now. And work has finally started on the Bronzeville apartments on Taylor.
  16. I would love that. Even if we’re not quite ready for the 30 story, I’d love to see other parts of the project continue to get built out. My guess is the stretch fronting Town will likely be mid rise residential, something similar to the One at the Peninsula buildings. Maybe start developing that while continuing to work on plans and financing for the tower?
  17. This actually turned out to be a pretty nice looking little infill project. Near East Side apartments will welcome residents this summer “New apartments on the Near East Side will welcome residents in June. The Savrielle features all one-bedrooms, in Woodland Park. The apartments stand where the East Side Dry Cleaners used to be located. The 27-unit building is the first new build project Aaron McDaniel, of Blueprint Development Co., has done. After rehabbing homes and multifamily units across the Near East Side in Bronzeville and Olde Towne East, this is the developer's largest project to date. CF Bank is the primary lender for the project and the Affordable Housing Trust is the secondary lender. McDaniel participated in the first round of the Emerging Developers Accelerator Program this past summer.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2023/04/27/near-east-side-apartments-will-welcome-residents-t.html
  18. Cmon, CBF, I posted this over a month ago! The Peninsula office building gains another tenant, now 50% leased “The National Affordable Housing Trust has signed a lease for Daimler's office building at The Peninsula. NAHT is leasing about 5,500 square feet on the sixth floor of the building, according to the office developer. The eight-story 231,000-square-foot office building is part of the $250 million first phase of Columbus Downtown Development Corp.'s The Peninsula project. The nonprofit currently leases space in the National Church Residences corporate offices in Upper Arlington. But because National Church Residences is expanding, NAHT needed a new home. InSight also has signed a lease for an additional 7,892 square feet, also on the sixth floor, according to Daimler.“ https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2023/04/27/daimler-office-building.html Now can we please get an update on phase two? 🙏
  19. The city must’ve taken Tony Hawk’s criticism to heart. $150k in renovations coming to Dodge Skatepark: https://columbus.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=6176967&GUID=264D7885-EE02-43D8-94E7-B165C2432695
  20. Drama in Pickerington: Pickerington quashes public referendum over 200 acre mixed-use development “Since about 2018, the city of Pickerington has planned to transform more than 200 acres on the southern edge of town from corn and soybeans to middle-class homes and businesses. Early on, the city sought “to obtain the property to provide for industrial, commercial, distribution and research facilities for the purpose of creating or preserving jobs and employment opportunities.” […] By a 6-1 vote, council voted to use an emergency designation for a follow-up unanimous vote to approve zoning for the development at 8185 Pickerington Road. Emergency status is typically used for the "immediate preservation of the public peace, health, or safety" in municipal government, according to Ohio administrative rules. In this case, it also also quashed the ability for residents who might oppose the re-zoning to vote on it on the November ballot by use of a referendum.” https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/2023/04/26/pickerington-quashes-public-dissent-over-200-acre-mixed-use-project/70149732007/
  21. I mean, people come from out of state (WV is still out of state!) and all over the state for Easton and Cosi (and OSU football games, of course), so those are pretty big draws. But I do want to see some sort of cultural institution in the block next to Cosi (which I think has always been the plan). I’d personally love an aquarium, but I feel like there’s plenty of options. Whatever it is, I don’t think it has to be the only one, like @VintageLifesaid, that’s a big ask. But it should be best in class.
  22. ScottsMiracle-Gro to consolidate distribution operations into massive Marysville warehouse “ScottsMiracle-Gro is building a 1.3-million-square-foot warehouse on an 84-acre Marysville site that will allow the horticulture company to consolidate some of its distribution operations. The building is about 70% complete at 12575 Industrial Parkway, about two miles southeast of Scotts' headquarters. The 40-foot-tall building will include 10,000 square feet of offices, 120 truck doors, and 230 trailer parking spots. The Dublin firm Crawford Hoying developed the site for Scotts. Contegra Construction, based near St. Louis, Missouri, is building the facility.” https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2023/04/25/new-marysville-scottsmiracle-gro-warehouse-consolidates-distribution/70149957007/
