  1. I’m hoping Arena Football eventually makes its way back here too. The Destroyers were always a fun game to go to.
  2. Photos: The Junto Hard Hat Tour “Just one month ahead of their grand opening in May, the team behind new boutique hotel The Junto invited Columbus Underground in for a hard hat tour to see how the space is coming together.” https://columbusunderground.com/photos-the-junto-hardhat-tour-we1/
  3. What we know: Intel prompts AEP Ohio to eye large transmission lines in Licking County. “AEP Ohio wants to bolster its transmission system inDelaware and Licking counties in anticipation of energy-intensive businesses such as Intel moving into western Licking County. The power company says additions to the grid are necessary to connect new customers and maintain reliable electricity for customers in the area. AEP Ohio has scheduled two open houses in early to May to get community feedback to potential routes for the project. AEP Ohio says the project to upgrade the grid is necessary to support economic development in the region and maintain reliability for customers in Jersey Township in western Licking County where Intel is investing $20 billion to build two factories and more electricity-hungry data centers are planned.” https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/energy-resource/2023/04/12/intel-prompts-aep-to-eye-new-transmission-lines-in-licking-county/70089365007/
  4. Columbus' new Pro Volleyball Federation team unveils name and venue “The Pro Volleyball Federation's Columbus team has chosen a venue and a name. The new professional volleyball team, dubbed the Fury, will play its home matches at Nationwide Arena come the inaugural 2024 season. “We’re excited to be a part of the Columbus professional sports community and be playing at Nationwide,” said Jeff Gilger, who is launching the team with his wife Beth Gilger. “Between the Blue Jackets, Crew, Clippers and ourselves, everything is happening at the epicenter of this area in our city that should be very vibrant with opportunities for sports.” The league will also have teams in Omaha, Nebraska; Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Atlanta, with more to be announced. Its 24-match season will begin in February 2024.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2023/04/12/pro-volleyball-league-columbus-fury-venue.html
  5. I’m honestly surprised by the amount of friends I’ve seen sharing the reopening news on social media. I didn’t know SW had such a big fan base lol
  6. I def think it’s better than Buca, which seems to be doing okay DT, even tho it’s sorta hidden. I think with the high visibility, and possibly hundreds of new units within walking distance coming online in the coming years, it might have a chance. That location does seem to be a bit of a revolving door tho.
  7. The two story office building is also gone, so the gas station must be moving forward. it also looks like the empty Wendy’s building will be demoed to make room for a new Moo Moo.
  8. This demo apparently was approved. The building is now gone.
  9. This move probably doesn’t bode well for the building: Spaghetti Warehouse moving from West Broad Street to downtown “What will happen to the Broad Street building? The future of the old building on West Broad Street is not yet known. The restaurant does not own the real estate. According to Franklin County property records, the owner is Spag 397 LLC, which was transferred the 2.66-acre, six-parcel property in 2018. It's in a hot area. The site is across Broad Street from Kaufman Development’s Gravity project and just west of The Peninsula, a multi-phase transformative mixed-use development spearheaded by CDDC.“ https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2023/04/11/spaghetti-warehouse-moving-broad-street-downtown.html Im thrilled that SW is reopening, and on High St DT at that. I don’t have high confidence that the old building will survive tho. It’s too bad, it looks nice; and it’d be great to see the surrounding parking lots developed.
  10. Some more info on this project: 15-Story Building Proposed for Downtown Site “A Cleveland-based developer has submitted a proposal to the city to construct a 15-story building at 171-191 S. High St. The plan would require the demolition of two buildings that have stood on the site for over a century, but also calls for the preservation of the former Ohio National Bank building next door, at 167 S. High St. Documents submitted to the city in advance of that meeting show a 15-story building containing a parking garage and street-level retail, along with ten stories devoted to market-rate apartments. The new building would be connected to the historic bank building next door, according to the submitted report. “The Ohio National Bank will be restored per historic requirements and the space will be used for retail that will serve its tenants and local community,” the document states. “Currently, there is minimal retail and restaurants, and no walkable grocer in an area that is bursting with new residences.”’ https://columbusunderground.com/15-story-building-proposed-for-downtown-site-bw1/
  11. An update from CBF on the Connect Housing Block project from DeHayes, also with a shout out to the Trolley District apartments: Connect Housing Blocks “DeHays is turning the former Value City Department Stores headquarters property at 3251 Westerville Road in Linden into a modular apartment manufacturing facility. DeHays said he hopes to provide the prefabricated apartment product to affordable housing developers at lower costs. DeHays said the facility will not only create jobs, but also will help address the affordable housing shortfall in Central Ohio. Hiring is ramping up now, he said. Manufacturing will happen in the existing Value City headquarters building. At full capacity, the facility will be able to produce four apartments per day. There will also be two multifamily developments on-site. One closest to Innis Road will have 54 units and the one closest to Westerville Road will have 60 units. The apartments DeHays is building next to his East Market will also be prefab apartments. The facility is planned to be operational later this year. The production line is being set up now.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2023/04/10/housing-central-ohio-construction-3d-printers.html
  12. Ha I know, but it’s really annoying to try to get GPS to cooperate with the name lol
  13. I haven’t really noticed any difference either. Except maybe more customers in construction gear now
  14. There are a few stands throughout where you can grab a copy of the fact sheet: And there’s a blown up version of it covering where the east entrance used to be:
  15. I’ll try to swing by tomorrow.
  16. That is what I imagine getting, unfortunately. I think the West Side BP idea would be really successful though, especially with the casino nearby and the plan to run a BRT line over to it.
  17. It’s pretty neat in the Market now with the signage and posters advertising the forthcoming MB. Definitely makes it feel like something “big” is on its way.
  18. It’s something weird with the underground parking, similar to the 100 N High building, where it really is like 14 or 15 stories, but some portion of it’s underground.
  19. Looks like Children’s will be expanding their 18th St parking garage onto what is currently surface parking. Hopefully this will free up more land, particularly the lot immediately north, for better development.
  20. There’s the 18 story Schiff proposal on Main and High too. And who knows what the new courthouse on High could bring
  21. Columbus zoning overhaul to focus on commercial corridors, city seeks public input “Columbus has unveiled a map of key corridors and commercial areas with the most potential to address housing, mobility and affordability challenges. And it's asking the public to comment on this next step in the city's overhaul of its zoning codes. The map, which the city put together with the help of California-based Lisa Wise Consulting, identifies 62 areas where updated zoning will be considered. The city looked at corridors where area plans recommended mixed-use, where there is existing COTA bus routes, commercial zoning overlays and suggested LinkUs corridors, said Kevin Wheeler, assistant director in the Development Department in charge of the "Zone In" initiative.“ https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2023/04/06/zoning-overhaul.html
  22. I like it. Work in the original facade, and I love it. I’m guessing it’ll be used for garage access, but it’d be great if Walnut St to the south could be used as pedestrian only patio space or something. Or a food truck alley.
  23. Check out the progress at Thrive Cos.' Grandview Crossing development “Progress continues at Thrive Cos.' $506 million Grandview Crossing development, with BMW Financial Services offices and The Rail restaurant and bar opening this year. There are roughly 650 residential units completed or under construction at Grandview Crossing. The first tenants moved into The Thomas apartments in June. Some 310 apartments are now open. An additional 500 apartments will come online through next spring, said Thrive Cos. CFO Joel Lilly. The 35,000-square-foot Collective Market currently is under construction and is expected to open at the end of the year or the beginning of 2024, Lilly said. There will be an indoor/outdoor bar at the market facing the planned 3-acre park. Thrive also plans to open its coffee shop/bar concept, Bada, at Grandview Crossing.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2023/04/04/grandview-crossing-update.html
