Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
Sad day. The United Way redev is back next week as a 5-story, 82 unit proposal.

Columbus: Downtown: The Estrella / 199 E. Rich St
Missed this little tidbit in yesterday’s article: Hadley's exits the downtown dining scene “It's in an area of downtown that could see some major changes in the coming years, potentially spurring its decision to close. "The building’s ownership has received offers to purchase the building and the parking lot that they are currently reviewing," James Ball, director of operations at Crafted for You, said in an email. "Unfortunately, those offers have different plans for the retail space." The building is across the street from a proposed 23-story mixed-use development that will go before the Downtown Commission next week. "Since the lease term on the retail space is reaching its end in the coming weeks, we decided to stop operations so we could re-position staff at our other locations," Ball said.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2024/07/17/hadleys-closes-downtown-columbus.html

Bluestone Brothers adds 110 apartments, still plans a grocery store for downtown Columbus development “The developer behind a large mixed-use development in downtown Columbus has added over 100 apartments to a previously proposed project, but still plans on trying to land a grocery tenant for the neighborhood. “Our goal from the beginning has been to enhance the vibrancy of the Mohawk Market District,” said Stanley Lan, CEO of Bluestone Brothers, in an emailed statement. “We are excited about these recent additions to the development." Lan said that Bluestone Brothers remains committed to bringing a grocery store downtown. Bluestone Brothers' statement said that it hopes to welcome Dirty Frank's back to the development when construction is finished. Dirty Frank's was not able to be reached for comment.“ https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2024/07/17/estrella-grocery-store-downtown-columbus.html

Tbh, that building is the ugliest (and newest) in that lineup, and the one I’d most like to see go. It says it’ll be a pocket park and mural in that area.

Nope, Hadley’s is on the next block south, owned by DeHayes.

I’ll try to look it up later, but I’m thinking DeHayes owns the other lot, right?

After a long period of silence, the Estrella is back and bigger than before. Unfortunately, calling for more demo this time:

amped91 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionYeah definitely just conceptual. I guess it would all depend on who ends up buying it. Maybe Kaufman should look into it 🙏

amped91 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI think just about anything looks better than a parking lot 😂

“Empire Square LLC purchased the building and a nearby parking lot for $4.3 million.”

amped91 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionHave these concept images been out for awhile? Just saw the building the Godman Guild has been in was listed for sale. Would def be neat to see this property redeveloped. https://marketing.realogy.imprev.net/45/197645/116600734/index.html#

I thought I’d read before that he was only listing the building and not the lot, but then the article says the lot sold too. Maybe a mistake? Either way, I’d love to see that lot and the Harmony Tower lot get redeveloped. Would almost complete High St north of Broad.

What are the chances the new owner will have any interest in developing the parking lot?
-
Columbus: Downtown: Franklin County Government Center Projects
None of that changes the fact that there’s already too many vacant retail spots downtown and adjacent neighborhoods….

I agree about converting it to two way. Unfortunately, I believe Long, Spring, 3rd and 4th will be the last to convert to two way, if it ever happens at all. Regardless, we do have a good mix of retail on Long. I’m excited to see what the renovation of the 118 building will bring. Keep filling in the empty lots and I think this area will continue to grow and thrive.

Mixed use building. Industry is what I’m referring to. My point is that not every apartment building needs to be lined with (vacant) retail spots.

The one retail spot in the MUB has sat vacant for years….

amped91 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI agree. This is becoming a really nice, active part of High St, these vacant buildings are really the only detriment right now.

amped91 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI forget, did this project apply for TMUD last time? Either way, might be smart to get started on one portion of the project (renovate the bank), then apply for TMUD funding for the second phase (Are we still doing TMUD?).

amped91 replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionUnfortunately you’re probably right. Medium density building with new housing units? Can’t have that! They’ll eat this up though 🙄

Good question. The article says they want to start this summer if it’s passed. Must be some reason they want to get things rolling.

Definitely not a surprise at all. Wish it were proposed downtown instead.
